Impeach John Roberts

There is simply no excuse for United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts bungling the presidential oath of office to such an extent that Barack Obama might need to do it again, at least in private, to ensure the legality of his inauguration.

Roberts should be impeached and removed from office for this unforgivable error. The Constitution requires certain language for a presidential oath of office. Roberts blew it. And if he doesn’t understand such things he should be fired for misfeasance of the first order. It’s his only official duty according to the Constitution and he completely screwed it up.

  3. Craig, the re-adminstration of the oath could not be done too privately or it would not be believed by many doubters.
    I am guessing that if it is determined it should be done, it will be done with at least some news media present.
    I, for one, am all for impeaching Roberts.

He answered ” Both Roberts and I were both very nervous.” We both mis-spoke.” You better believe if there was any chance this would stop Obama, from being in office, Pelosi and The Gang, would already have had it redone.There is no way in HELL, that would let anything spoil their party.

  7. There are many lawsuits in the “pipeline”– Roberts knows this. He also knows that BHO is probably not his legal name and that he is Constitutionally ineligible. Will be easier to remove him and perhaps Biden from office. We need a Presidential re-do.

  8. HA! Headed you off at the pass. It’s late but I have been at the “hostipal” all day waiting for our new little critter to make his appearance. He finally made it weighing 8’14”, a whole pound more than his sibs. He has black hair like his canuck father, not blonde like his sibs and mom. His brothers greeted him with huge smiles and kisses. He has no name yet but then his sibs came home with names decided just before he ‘walked’ in the door apparently.
    Anyway, I’m signing off now, but wanted you to know that another one of my long posts is toward the end of the last blog. I kept it pretty light but I would hate for you to miss it just cuz you didn’t know it was there – HA!

  10. Great idea, Craig…I already have been posting all over Facebook that Roberts MUST recuse himself from the 2013 Obama swearing in. Maureen Dowd says Obama jumped the gun at the start ..I say blame it all on Roberts…impeach him! …or…run him out on a rail! It may be our last chance to get rid of the dumb sumbitch! Best moment?     Rule of law? Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution is the rule of law: “Before he enter on the execution of his office, he shall take the following oath or affirmation:– ‘I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.'”
    If Roberts can’t handle that, what can he handle?

Craig, since you’re splitting so many hairs and so intent on bitching about the parking and concessions at Gettysburg…where in the constitution does it say that the Chief Justice is the one who must administer the oath? I can’t find it. So how can he be impeached for something that’s not technically his constitutional responsibility?

  16. Surely this post is tongue-in-cheek.
    Could you possibly be this stupid and shallow, Mr. Crawford? I read that you’re still a member of the Florida bar. Perhaps you skipped constitutional law and federal procedure. If you had taken those courses, you’d know that the courts would treat this as a nonjusticiable political question, one which no citizen has standing to make complaint about. But even if they did repeat the ceremony (there’s precedent for that by the cautious Calvin Coolidge), that would be no big deal.
    Surely your ridiculous post here, if sincerely intended, is a better argument for firing your sorry behind from CQ than the Chief Justice’s misstatement is for qualifying as an impeachable offense.

    The 35-word oath is explicitly prescribed in the Constitution, Article II, Section 1, which begins by saying the president “shall” take the oath “before he enter on the execution of his office.”
    The oath reads: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
    In giving the oath, Roberts misplaced the word “faithfully,” at which point Obama paused quizzically. Roberts then corrected himself, but Obama repeated the words as Roberts initially said them.

  19. As I wrote in a comment to Champ yesterday, it was Obama that jumped the gun and wanted to give himself the oath. I did not list the Bill Clinton oath because of the Clinton haters on this site but you can find it yourselves—or any others you choose. We must never loose sight that the Constitution matters even for Barack Obama.

    Passed by Congress March 2, 1932. Ratified January 23, 1933.
    Note: Article I, section 4, of the Constitution was modified by section 2 of this amendment. In addition, a portion of the 12th amendment was superseded by section 3.
    Section 1.
    The terms of the President and the Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

    If one does a search on YouTube you will find that other Chief Justices’ used different pronouns such as “you” instead of “I” there are probably more but to get back on point-they “presidents Elect” recited their part correctly and did not follow like lost sheep the Chief Justices exact verbiage but rather recited their oath as written in the Constitution.

  25. I don’t know why anyone is worried about this.
    President Obama was a Constitutional Law Professor at a prestigious university. The other party is Chief Justice of the United States. Both individuals have an interest in seeing that things were constitutionally sufficient.
    The two individuals without such an interest are Vice President Biden and Speaker Pelosi; both stand to gain should Mr Obama have done something irrevocably bad.
    And, of course there are a whole bunch of people on the other side of the aisles who have a laughing interest in how all this plays out.

  26. Dear Dexter @ 2:08am. You’re close, but I think wrong. The (existing) president’s term ENDS at noon according to Amendment XXII. There’s no notation on when the new guy’s term STARTS. As Craig correctly points out, the exact oath IS mandated.
    The potential problem is, we may have inadvertantly cast in stone the standard of “close enough for government work”.

  27. and, by the way, the words “So help me God” while not part of the oath, are NOT a question asked by the Oath Giver to the Oath Taker. It’s a statement by the Oath Taker on it’s own.

For so many years you stood up for the Constitution, when others didn’t, especially those elected by us to do that very job. Please keep up your wonderful work. And Roberts? He couldn’t get one line right? A line that is constitutionally mandated? And that most Americans know by heart? And that is arguably the most substantive and important line he’ll utter in his role as chief justice? Kick him to the curb. (And get someone next time who loves this country enough to get it right.)

  30. Unbelieveable! You know I am upset that the Dems have control of the govt but it is certainly going to be an amazing couple of years. People like Mr. Crawford will not be able to help themselves unleashing all of their radical hatred of everything republican now that ‘they’ have control. There may have been some small level of restraint prior to yesterdays event…but that is gone. Cant wait to hear what Mr. Crawford, Chris Matthews, Keith Olberman, Rachel Madow and the like will let out now.

  31. Impeach someone for being nervous? Surely you jest. Yeah, I sort of hate that Roberts is our Chief Justice as well, but I’m not ready to ask for his head simply for being nervous while the world watched. That really is a stretch way too far…

  32. This is serious.. Roberts also left out “to the best of my ability.” Technically, due to Roberts’ actions, Barack Obama has not fulfilled a requirement of the Constitution to become POTUS.
    Could everything he does until the oath is re-administered be INVALIDATED? Such as the closing of Gitmo, the torture ban, the order on a delay in military trials?
    Could these multiple errors have been an accident? Or is something else happening here?
    Obama should re-take the oath and re-do any executive orders executed prior to its re-administration.

  34. I think Roberts is a disaster, and would love to see some VALID grounds for impeaching him, but Craig Crawford’s comments are cretinous. As Obama said, it’s time to put childish things aside.
