Morton Kondracke is making sense:

Presidents of both parties look impotent, the immigration issue gets more fractious by the year and, increasingly, state and local politicians decide they have to (or want to) take over what’s plainly a federal responsibility.

Even as they battle each other, both parties are losing, too. By demanding ever harsher enforcement measures, Republicans are kicking away support from Latinos, the nation’s fastest-growing demographic group.

And Democrats, by insisting on “comprehensive” reform to appease liberal and Latino activists, are losing the chance to enact incremental changes that might build a consensus for full reform.

Exposed: The truth about Israel’s land grab in the West Bank
As President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meet, a report reveals 42 per cent of territory is controlled by settlers
A Jewish settler hangs the Israeli flag over a vacated building in the West Bank town of Beit Sahur
Jewish settlers, who claim a divine right to the whole of Israel, now control more than 42 per cent of the occupied West Bank, representing a powerful obstacle to the creation of a Palestinian state, a new report has revealed.
The jurisdiction of some 200 settlements, illegal under international law, cover much more of the occupied Palestinian territory than previously thought. And a large section of the land has been seized from private Palestinian landowners in defiance even of an Israeli supreme court ruling, the report said, a finding which sits uncomfortably with Israeli claims that it builds only on state land.

“I find it very interesting here today that those the furthest from the AZ Mexico border have the simplist answers to all of the issues surrounding immigration. Blonde, who lives on the border, is trying her best to shed some light on the plight of Mexicans now in the spotlight as white reactionaries, including some here, think the entire immigration problem, if there really is one and not mere political posturing, is Mexican in origin”
    http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/trailmix/2010/07/immigration-on-deck.html#comment-306118
What we tend to forget is that half of the undocumented residents did not come across the Mexico/ US border. Solutions for the Mexico/US border migration problems will not work for them.
We need to separate the two and if we are going to do comprehensive reform do it as border control reform.

Calling this an ‘immigration’ anything is a misnomer. It is about baggers and the feds. States out-of-control acting in a federal capacity. If Arizona wants to help, then go over to Afghanistan and fight the war. You seem to think you can do a better job than the feds when your own police forces are nearly bankrupt and you can’t control your own costs.

Israeli PM Expresses ‘Concern’ Over Possible US Pullout From Iraq
Withdrawing US Troops From Iraq a ‘Threat’ to Israel
Few things go on with respect to America’s foreign policy in the Middle East without eventually being tied to Israel. Well the prospective US withdrawal from Iraq is the latest to fall into this category, as visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today voiced “concerns” about the impact the withdrawal of the 90,000 US troops would have on Israeli security.
Netanyahu claims that withdrawing the American troops after 7 years of occupation “could leave Israel vulnerable” and that it might even provoke an attack on Israel “from the east.” Exactly who would be doing this attacking is never stated, but Israel is bordered to the east by Jordan.
In a meeting with Defense Sec’y Robert Gates, Benjamin Netanyahu expressed concerns about Israel’s security once U.S. troops leave Iraq, Israeli officials said. Israel’s PM also discussed buying unspecified U.S. “defense products.” He sought assurances that Palestinian peace talks would address illegal arms smuggling in the region.
Looks like they are asking us for more, and more money…which we will give them….so our defense contractors can make a little side cash……

Kondracke “You didn’t ask for my 2 cents but there it is anyway”
That’s all I got out of it -- really over generalizing in many areas of the debate. Human Beings are involved, and until it’s treated as a “Human” issue it’s going to stay fractious.
Immigration and Border Security are two different things.
On the Immigration side this could be solved “politically” if the politicians didn’t want to keep it as a wedge issue to get votes when elections come up.
The southern border is all about “Commerce” not Human Beings. Until it’s treated as a “Human Being” issue, it’s not going to change.
But the politicians are never going to frame debate that way…it isn’t politically advantageous to them. It’s politics first in this country -- Humans, second, third or last.
