Amending Politics
The big idea for conservatives aiming to repeal the health overhaul is amending the Constitution to allow states the power to do so. This way, Obama would be out of the loop because presidents have no role in the amending process.
The proposal is designed to give states the power to repeal any legislation if two-thirds of their legislatures agree. Enacting the amendment would require three fourths of the state legislatures.
Dubbed the “Repeal Amendment,” this cause will be quite the rallying point for conservatives in campaigns even if it does not end up scrapping the President’s health overhaul.
The proposed amendment:
“Any provision of a law or regulation of the United States may be repealed by the several states, and such repeal shall be effective when the legislatures of two-thirds of the several states approve resolutions for this purpose that particularly describe the same provision or provisions of law or regulation to be repealed.” (repealamendment.org)

The Repeal Amendment should be dubbed the
Money Talks Louder than the rights of the majority amendment
“rights of the majority” should be dubbed “Fairy Tale”.
“we’ve been lost in a dream, pretending that they care.”
fairy tale:

If the health care law is repealed then what.
Go back to allowing the insurance companies criminal practices?
Do these people think about anything except the next sentence coming out of their mouth.
I know this isn’t very nice but…I hope every member of the tea party has their insurance canceled or their insurance refuses to cover their child’s illness or they are bankrupted by medical bills.
Alternatively I would like to see the employment breakdown of the tea party members are they all employees of insurance companies?
Carry over from last thread:
Jack / Ping
Capitalism is only as good as the people who practice it. When it detaches itself from an ethical base that considers the source of production (labor) and long term profit in favor of management greed and short term profit then it plants the seeds of its own destruction.
wow…how much will that cost, Craig? Waste. More waste. And more waste…these government bozos have squandered my time on the earth.

Why doesn’t the media do its job instead of using this as an opportunity to bash Nancy P for not getting the bathroom.

LOL
Craig we are being governed by idiots.
What an amendment.
lol
Notice that it applies to any law.
It takes us back to the articles of confederation where the central government had to beg for funding from the states.
Want a nation wide network of roads so we can carry on commerce from coast to coast?
Want that large defense organization to promote international commerce?
It ain’t happening because all the states have opted out for their own provincial interests.
Just another case of conservatives being very far from conservative.
Idiots

“Enacting the amendment would also require two-thirds of the state legislatures.”
Its “when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States”
ARTICLE. V.
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

Jack,
Obama does not have a clue about how to govern! He is a highly intelligence and gifted con man, a gifted orator and campaigner. He lacks judgment, governing competence, leadership skills, executive command, management ability, and common sense. He also has the common Democrat affliction I call jello spine. You know, incompetent!
PIT
We can both go into mourning
PIT
The trouble with Democrats is that we keep thinking that Republicans are mature and reasonable. Therefor we are always doomed to disappointment.
This would effect such a sea change in our government that I’m struggling with noodling whether such an amendment could even be constitutional. Can a constitutional amendment be unconstitutional? It would essentially delegate to the states a second level of veto power. This really strikes me as a nutty proposed amendment, but my problem with it is that I can actually envision it happening.
Pogo
Since we have had Amendments supplanted by later amendments and one totally repealed, I would think that that would be the way to alter rather than it being possible for the Supreme Court to declare it “unconstitutional”. The court can do that to a state, but I don’t think they could do it to Congress.
Interesting puzzlement.
The silver lining is that there is no way that either house could muster 2/3 to support anything that has any hint of controversy -- and this certainly has that hint of controversy, so it would be left to the states to call for a CC to propose this, and I don’t see that happening.
You truly have to wonder. On the other hand, I may not have much longer to wonder anything. I am considering murdering my hospital roommate. If she starts crying and whining one more time because she has painful “bursitis” I really will kill.

Then you can just smile and nod at her.

Patsi
Ask for morphine to put you out of your pain.
Patsi, headphones with active noise cancelling technology are now available for as little as $50. Plug ‘em into an IPod filled with your favorite country music and you’ll forget she’s even there.
Patsi- Just tell her to shut the hell up- maybe she’ll complain and they’ll move her
Bethy, it’s unclear to me how well your older nephew is communicating/understanding thoughts that are being communicated to him. I understand that the paralysis is fading--wonderful! And that family is ready to attach him to the Telluride lift. Sounds like a reasonable goal for March.
I suggest obtaining the services of thirtyish neurologist from a respected group practice. The medical pros in the family can steer him and his wife in the right direction. Competence and competence and competence are what are needed at this point--every other attribute must fall by the wayside.
My parting instruction to my doc was that I did not want to wake up without control of my limbs, etc.. And that my advanced directive addressed those points and that copies of that document plus the appropriate powers of attorney were there as well. These wishes were also discussed with Stinky and Toots.
These surgeons are like fighter pilots. In my discussion with my lead guy, I basically said that I chose him because of his reputation and because I liked him and his staff. And that I believed him when he said that he understood that I was letting him fix and fly my airplane and that I was trusting him to land it safely. He expressed understanding of the special level of dependence that Stinky has on me--that she depends on my departing after she leaves the party.
I am considering murdering my hospital roommate. If she starts crying and whining one more time because she has painful “bursitis” I really will kill.

I nominate Patsi to head the federal death panel mandated by the new US health care.
I nominate BW and Patsi for the comment(s) of the day
maybe the year too
Constitution? We don’t need no stinking Constition.
Jeez, maybe they can figure out a way to cafeteria plan use of roads, military protection, air. I hope all of the folks who voted for Repub & Repubaggers get a good taste of their backwash.
pogo -- “Can a consitutional amendment be unconstitional’? In DC almost anything is possible unless it’s logical and would serve the public good.
patsi -- It sounds like the makings of a good country song. (Seriously, hope you are on the mend.)
Once the Congress gets down to cutting their own salaries to help the US, I will believe they are serious about the deficit. Otherwise, they are there for the money whilst scolding us for their excessive ways.
BW — I accept the challange — I will be happy to get in charge of the death panels…my new motto:

BRING IT, BITCH!
Patsi, great mission statement.
Democrats need to replace Obama in 2012.
It should come as no surprise that he:
1. Is short on humility
2. Has terrible instincts
3. Is the last person you would want on your side of the table in contract negotiations
4. Doesn’t learn from his mistakes..See #1
His not being George W. Bush is not enough to warrant his re-nomination.
We Democrats can do so much better.
Let’s nominate someone who can both work with and stand up to the Republicans.
OD, got anyone in mind????

I think I’ve woken up and landed in Oz. Let’s drop a house on those f-ing Repubs….. someone get a bucket of water….
Patsi…. would you like me to mail you a knife?…
pogo,,
Hillary of course..
I also admire:
Howard Dean
Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa
Senator Patty Murray of Washington
I would love a Clinton-Dean ticket or a Clinton-Harkin ticket, or a Clinton-Murray ticket.
All of these people fight the good fight, something our current occupant of th White House does not do.
Renee — Good plan…send weapons…this woiman yaps along just fine until someone comes along who might be able to get her on disability for her bursitis…then she starts weeping and gasping. Meanwhile, I am PUKING at the thought of hearing ONE more gasp for air or OOOAAAHHHHH-heeeeelllllp-I-must-be-dyingggggggg.
Piss on her. (Since I really WAS close to the end times, I have zero tolerance for the BS!)
She is also trying to bully her kids into paying her bills.
I want to see a governor in the job, right now he is my pick to replace Obama , Ed Rendell of Pennsylvainia. A hard nosed good government Democrat. That is what we need right now.
Jack
Go Patsi Go!
Go Patsi Go!
Go Patsi Go!
I’m serious Patsi, tell her to shut the f!#$ up, that will probably get her out of your room. You don’t need that shit while recovering. Wished I were there to take care of it for you. Tell her to shut up or oldseahag will be after her
So Patsi just how mobile are you.
I know when I spent my week in the hospital they had too many things tied to me for much mobility. Just a trip to the bathroom had to be planned.
Jack
Ha — seriously, Jack…this woman is the closest to defining white trash as I’ve seen in a long damn time. Turns out she landed at the ER in the first place because her pit bull was fighting with one of her neighbors’ pit bulls and it caused her to fall.
That got her bursitis acting up, and yet — AND YET — her employer wouldn’t okay a day’s sick pay. (An outrage.) So that is why she had to get something on paper, from a doctor. And why she should get disability — because nobody understands that her pit bull is really a nice dog who didn’t mean to knock her down.
Ah sweet mystery of life. My pal Joe Martin is dead and this woman lives.
clinton/rendell!
Clinton/Rendell — what a great ticket, Sea!!!!! Count me in!
“I want to see a governor in the job”
jack, how about a half governor? maybe she’ll knock 50% off her going price.

sturge, that’s a big chimney coming out of that little shack. sure could cook a mighty mess of smoked mullet with it. i really like the ambience.
patsi, i agree with sea. let the expletives fly. if colorfully continuous cussing doesn’t work, try “converting” her to whatever farout religion you can call yourself. loudly praying non-stop for redemption of her wicked ways might also help….
There’re no better smoked mullet on this steamy Earth than at Ted Peters. For confirmation, ask our gracious host.

Just received from the Center for Responsive Politics:
“Gay Rights Political Donations Plummet
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Discrimination in the workplace and schools. Unequal benefits for same-sex partners. Marriage equality. The years leading up to the 2010 midterm election have been an important stretch for gay rights advocates, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it by gauging the amount of money invested this cycle by gay and lesbian rights groups and their donors. The 2010 election cycle was the least prolific cycle for gay rights interests since 1990, with about $850,000 contributed from January 2009 through September, according to research by the Center for Responsive Politics. It’s a trend that some gay rights advocates attribute to decreases in two key areas: funding and visibility for their top causes. » Read More

Who give a rat’s behind about what McCain thinks about DADT? Why does the media continue to give that loser (he did lose the bid for prez) a voice over many more qualified?

“With the inevitable news finally dropping that Democrats will cave on extending tax cuts for the top 2%, Pres. Obama solidifies his I Cave Before Fighting “new kind of politics” legacy. In limbo is DADT, unemployment benefits, the New Start Treaty, all because Republicans know how to wage a battle, while the Democrats run around in a panic without a plan. Meanwhile Democrats continue to whine about Republicans showing a united battle plan, while Democrats can’t muster any fighting front at all.”

Flatus, I think you are right about the communicating
but then I haven’t heard much first-hand, so maybe the problem is too many people trying to communicate. I count on my bil to keep his eyes on things. He has been able to see all the mri’s and ct’s etc after the fact
and I fully trust him.
Today patient ate oatmeal, yougrt, etc, and obviously the headache is gone -- exit pain meds. He dressed and went to ot and pt. He said it didn’t hurt and wasn’t hard and could/should have been harder. He tried to get out of bed and fell -- his reasoning is that it’s like skiing, you fall when you are learning. He was very alert and sharp, and I’m so relieved cuz I know that strokes can cause depression. I don’t think he’s had much more return of sensation, and am not sure he’ll ski in March. My goal for him is to walk first. Thanks for listening to all my angst -- I had a lot more hysteria when I was here alone.
Flatus, I agree with you re the way to handle things, and I’m sure that’s what they’re doing. We are all so watchful and questioning and will keep our eyes on my nephew to make sure he’s coming along. Your comments re your doc sound like mine, and would have been for him if it hadn’t been such an emergency.
