    WooHoo?

  2. patsi says:

Bachmann’s husband says gays must be disciplined. Hmmm. That is a highly suspicious statement, and leaves thoughts of a Mel Brooks movie about gay men who marry dominatrix female politicians to punish them for not having the balls to come out.

Is everyone sleeping in, or have you all been raptured?

Bethy… I was just thinking about you… and there you are. I’d vote for John Denver’s Annie’s Song as best love song.

Craig… the usual great appearance. It’s interesting to see Keith give work to both you and Shuster. If the Iowans keep picking republican candidates in their caucus that don’t go on to win nomination… I can’t see republicans continuing to pay much attention to the state.

ps… Rick told me to tell you… nice tie.. Wink

  5. Jamie says:

Good Morning All -- As to Mr. Bachman he strikes me as the kind of man no one of either sex would find particularly attractive which has nothing to do with his politics. Mrs. Bachman has stated that they didn’t love each other but were TOLD it was what Jesus wanted for them (say what?). So whatever is going on there probably may have more to do with power and money than it does with affection -- but that’s their business not fodder for a campaign unless it indicates fraud and deception.

    Patsi,
Very good to read you. I remember that and the brush off the shoulders of Hill. President Obama is who he is and who that is i don’t know???

  11. Faire Lewis says:

Patsi, ROFLMAO--you must have eaten your Wheaties this AM, you’re on a ROLL!!!

As to the question about being raptured, nope. I was slavering my way through the night of the full moon. Got werewolf DNA somewhere in the family--never sleep well when the moon’s full--

Ahem. I take note during Craig’s segment that, like Karl Rove, the Koch bros. and Marcus Bachmann all look like villains from a Sherlock Holmes story (I’ve been reading a collection that has the original Sidney Paget illustrations from STRAND magazine; everybody looks like a Holmes villain to me today, including McConnell, Boehner & Cantor.)

Jamie, I like the idea of us (and some of the gang at FOO) brainstorming with KO about programming. None of the rest of Current’s present lineup catches my attention either.

As for David not reading Thurber, Craig, I think he’s right. Don’t think he could do it with quite Keith’s panache.

Okay, back to my Paget illustrations & praying for rain--

“in fact, it’s refreshing to have folks in the wh who think complex tho’ts or at least appear and sound like they understand a world full of complications, diverse and opposing opinions, and are civil in dealing with same.”

    Good Morning Pat
Yes, it is! I just wish their complex thoughts were not plotting the total destruction of all of FDR’s and LBJ’s great accomplishments! Nope, for me President Obama putting up SS and Medicare on the chopping block was it. There’s no going back now as that’s red meat for the goper’s.. Sadly, most Dems will go along with his “Grand Bargain” if he should get one. I’m i suppose in the minority, ah but i’m not a Dem. Wink

  13. harborwoman says:

I’m not a Dem either, Tony…still harbor (no pun intended) a few conservative leanings, in fact, but also still have to go with the candidate and staff most likely to move the country in the directions I’m hoping to see. The thought occurs as I read the many complaints and declarations by some that they’re ‘done, and will not be voting for Obama’, that if you truly want things done your way, you need to put your convictions where your mouths are and run for office yourselves.

That said…is it true that Obama has appointed someone other than Elizabeth Warren to run the consumer protection commission? If so, that’s a punch in the gut for me. God! If I were not so old, tired and multiply-married, I’d consider running for something….

  14. patd says:

harbor, the appointment issue might be tied to whether he by-passed consent approval which would make it a short term. perhaps she advised (rather than he decided) against it for a future more permanent appointment.

Rupert Murdoch Has Gamed American Politics (and the Regulatory Process) Every Bit as Thoroughly as Britain’s
    by John Nichols

Australian-born billionaire Rupert Murdoch has manipulated not just the news but the news landscape of the United States for decades. He has done so by pressuring the Federal Communications Commission and Congress to alter the laws of the land and regulatory standards in order to give his media conglomerate an unfair advantage in “competition” with more locally-focused, more engaged and more responsible media.

It’s an old story: While Murdoch’s Fox News hosts prattle on and on about their enthusiasm for the free market, they work for a firm that seeks to game the system so Murdoch’s “properties” are best positioned to monopolize the discourse.

Obama to Eliminate Elizabeth Warren as Head of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
    By: Jane Hamsher

Everybody knew the Republicans wouldn’t vote for Warren from the outset. Obama could have appointed her as the director when the agency was created, so the “60 vote” excuse was a charade. Remember the reasons given by the White House at the time to explain why he didn’t?

The concern stressed by officials in the White House is that Warren would not be allowed to be the public face of the agency or to testify before Congress if under the virtual cone of silence of a Presidential nominee. This allows the agency to begin without delay. But down the road, she could still serve in the interim capacity while nominated for the position, and that’s frankly where this can go.

Of course the only thing “down the road” was the can that the President likes to kick in his favorite metaphor. It allowed him to give her the boot when things had cooled down a bit, and the issue was out of the headlines. From a political perspective, now is a smart time to do it, because the debt ceiling battle will consume everything in its wake.

And so Elizabeth Warren’s tenure at the CFPB ends in a Friday night news dump.

  18. solarcrete says:

    Purple,

I have taken out this line: “Then we would return to the old style bribery type of influence and corruption.”
and added two paragraphs at the bottom…please change as you have a need to. You could also just ignore what I have written…it was just fine as it was….

Imo, without the necessary first step of changing finance reform…nothing else can be changed, or will be changed…..doesn’t matter who is in power..they will be in the pockets of the puppet masters….

“Wall Street and big corporations continue to control the White House, Federal and state Governments. This would take “corporate personhood” out of Federal elections and allow states to do the same.

I have posted and sent this to my Representative and Senators, newspapers, and other blogs and not a bit of interest. Here is the whole concept. Any improvements would be appreciated.

    Federal Campaign Finance Reform
In my humble opinion the only way to eliminate the Special Interests including the big banks and corporations from controlling the United States Government including Congress and put the voters in charge is a Constitutional Amendment that will create a Federal Campaign Finance Reform funding for Congress and the President. This Amendment would redefine the first amendment’s “Freedom of Speech” as it pertains to Federal General Elections and Special Interests. The Amendment would prohibit all contributions, including their own money, and advertisements, for or against, Federal General Election Candidates. Only funds provided by the Federal Government would be allowed for Campaigns. This Amendment would not fund or change state primary elections but would allow states to adopt State Campaign Finance Reform for state elections and federal primary elections.

The cost to the taxpayers would be about $10 billion every 4 years adjusted for inflation. The cost estimates are from the nonpartisan organization Center for Responsive Politics. According to them the cost of a Presidential Election is about $2.0 billion every 4 years and the cost of Congressional Elections are about $4.0 billion every 2 years. This would fund all candidates with the requirement that they achieve at least 10 or 15 percent of the vote or return all money received.

Since there may be only primary election fund raising required, one of the best, of many, benefits of this plan is the increase in family time and the time that will be available to do the work for their constituents. This is a small price to remove Special Interests and their bias, misguided influence and corruption.”

When thinking about the damage done to our nationalism that the present system of electing our officials, an era of despair has been created. The common man, the voters have given up in despair the struggle to attain true and fair elections, at present they are predestined, and in need of reform for the common good.

We can not despair.! Civilization lives in and through its upward struggle. Whoever ( the voters) despairs and gives up the struggle, that individual or a whole civilization is already dead. We must steadfastly keep the notions that we the people can elect our representatives weather it be State or Federal.

  19. harborwoman says:

patd…I hope you’re right about Warren, but I just feel ‘had’…even more so after reading what Tony posted from Jane Hamsher.

Tony…I’m not even sure I like politics…keeps me pissed off too much of the time. It’s just that I’ve come to realize how important what politicians do can be…and that it’s foolish not to try to be watchful of them at all times. Yuck! It’s such a shame that we can’t seem to find anyone (well, very few) to run for office who is actually trustworthy.

  20. patd says:

more from my 1:11 post of nichols’ piece in the nation :

Media owners, editors, reporters and commentators have a right to take the positions they like. Where the trouble comes is when they seek to turn politicians and regulators into corporate handmaidens — and when they build their empires out to such an extent they can demand obedience even from those who do not share their partisan or ideological preferences.

And the corruptions of the process created by Murdoch’s manipulation are not merely a British phenomenon.

Murdoch’s political pawns in the United States have been every bit as faithful to the mogul and his media machine as the British pols.

    Harbor,
    Great post!
I like E. Warren as well but maybe its like Jane said in the piece, she will get to speak out more now? I don’t really get pissed that often. What can get at me are women’s reproductive issues and of course gay rights. Reading is my passion, online or otherwise. So i better not get mad to often. Wink

  24. patd says:

will any of the sunday talk shows have the guts to talk about corporate control of the media (their own as well as faux) in light of the murdoch scandal? or will they concentrate as usual on the politcal horse race, debt tug-o-war and the latest polls of who shot jr?

  25. purple-in-tampa says:

Jamie, good luck with the mob at the Harry Potter Theater.

Michele Bachmann could get the Republican Party nomination! With the Social Conservatives and Tea Party, like the notorious extremist-rightwing John Birch Society co-found by Fred Koch before them, Moderate Republicans are now extinct in the Republican Party.

I was a registered moderate Republican from 1967 to 2007 but I voted for a number of Democrats. Now I am an Old Fart, a Moderate Independent and a Florida “No Party Affiliation” register voter. I watched the Republican Party change through the years to the point where Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan would now be considered moderates and kicked out or the Party. Goldwater hated the Social Conservatives.

  26. purple-in-tampa says:

    patd,

Remember the old rule “you never bite the hand that feeds you.” NBC and MSNBC followed that well when they were owned by GE.

  27. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

I cannot believe Obummer did that to Elizabeth Warren.
    What a f—— d—.

XR comes up with the best nicknames ever

I hope Michelle Bachmann gets the Republican nomination.
Give the people (goopers) what they want. This is what the Republicans in California do…they always want to nominate the bigggest loon and sometimes they do and then it is a cakewalk for Democrats.

  28. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Jane Hamsher puts a good face on the Elizabeth Warren scandal and tries to find a silver lining. Speaking out is good --getting to be the regulator — better. I don’t mind advocating for my side but I much prefer being in charge when it comes to making change….or keeping people in line.

  29. purple-in-tampa says:

President Obummer is trying to get rid of U.S. jobs with his free trade policies again. Free Market Competitiveness, the race to the bottom of the barrel.

No, Obama, We Don’t Need Free Trade Agreements with Panama, Colombia, and Korea
By Ian Fletcher, July 15, 2011 08:55 PM ET
Author, ‘Free Trade Doesn’t Work: What Should Replace It and Why’

Obama is still pushing for free trade agreements with Panama, Colombia, and Korea, albeit with the thin fig leaf of demanding they be accompanied by money for so-called Trade Adjustment Assistance, a “painkiller” program designed to blunt the harm to laid-off workers.

You think America has learned its lesson from NAFTA, which the Labor Department has estimated cost us 525,000 jobs? Think again.

Free Trade Agreement with Korea will cost U.S. jobs
    Robert E. Scott, July 1, 2010
Unlike the U.S. International Trade Commission’s (USITC) forecast of a small positive impact, Economic Policy Institute’s (EPI) research shows it will increase the U.S. trade deficit with Korea by about $16.7 billion, and displace about 159,000 American jobs within the first seven years after it takes effect.

    Harry Potter…very good

Unfortunately, two jackasses were checking their cell phones throughout the movie.

  32. Jamie says:

Thoroughly enjoyed Harry, but I missed something in the Epilogue. OD, did you happen to see which girl was with Draco? The panning camera went by so fast that I only saw the “adult” Draco.

  33. Oregon Democrat says:

No..it did go quickly and I was looking through people who were standing and stretching.

I’ll see the movie a second time soon and will take a look.

  34. Well i’m seeing Winnie only because Craig Ferguson plays the owl. Saving Potter for when the crowds subside.

  35. xrepublican says:

I’m with you, Craig…ain’t no way I’m going to complete with the crowds when I want to really see and hear Potter! I think Sam and I will catch a matinee on a Monday afternoon…maybe in a couple of weeks….

I just finished watching last night’s Bill Maher, and I feel so much better. Some days, I get so bogged down by the lunacy of our political climate. It was a relief to be reminded that there are actual people out there…people with voices that get listened to…who use critical thinking skills to reach logical conclusions, and who aren’t willing to finish trashing this country for the sake of ideology or political expedience. I love Bill Maher…and now I also love Dan Savage, have a new respect for Mark Cuban, and can finally see why people are willing to listen to Chrystia Freeland. Last night’s program was really, really good!

  37. harborwoman says:

xrep…You would have thoroughly enjoyed Maher and his panel on the topic of Murdoch!

Yes, yes and yes! Chrystia is a Canadian gem! I haven’t watched it yet but i’m anticipating a night of great TV.
I’m still catching up on “Nurse Jackie”, oh and i’ve got “Weeds” and ‘The Big C” to start…

Enjoy, Tony! Sounds like you have some excellent TV viewing ahead of you1 This Bill Maher episode is one of the better ones in recent weeks, IMO. Grin

  43. bethyboo says:

RR, I’m glad you also like Annie’s Song because it always gives me chills when I hear it. I seem to feel that some of the older songs must be the most romantic, like the love duet in the first act of madame butterfly, but it also feels awkward. You Are Love is another great old one, but I keep coming back to Annie’s Song. The Pacific is still being friendly to us cuz they don’t expect a warm up till next mid-week. I haven’t noticed any comments re Casey Anthony. Has it already been disscussed? I’ve been amazed at the tone of the coverage all along. If there had been mis-trial, they would never have been able to find a new jury. I tend to think she’s guilty, but the ranting and raving going on is remarkable.

Bill Maher is great in my opinion also even tho I don’t always
agree with him. He is fearless, thank heaven.

The old ladies saturday night movie date is upon me so I’ll bid
    adieu.

  44. Oregon Democrat says:

When I go to a film with multiple showings I ask the ticket seller what the percentage of tickets sold is for each. It is then easy to pick the less crowded theater.

The Harry Potter I attended was about 75% full…the other two were 90 and 95. At computerized theaters they have this info. on their computer screens.

  45. xrepublican says:

Now that bachmann has signed onto the IA Manifesto, we can safely run someone in the primaries against ohbummer if she gets the nomination, as I expect her to do.

The IA Manifesto claims that pre-Civil War slavery was better for Blacks than the obama Administration is. The bachmann signing means that if she is the rip up candidate, Dems can claim bachmann & ripuplicans intend ‘improve the lives’ of Blacks by re-enslaving them.

This foolish signing means that if bachmann gets the goopy nod, Blacks will turn out in droves for whoever the Dems decide to run.

She ate the poisoned apple. Damn, I hope she’s the pugugly choice ! .

  46. xrepublican says:

When Maher first came on the air w/not pc, I didn’t think much of him. He has aged wonderfully well. In the old days he seemed committed to nothing much besides hedonism, but now he is a grown up.

I have been to the Highland Art Fair. It was 90+F and humidity to match. I am wilted, and must go plant myself in a tub of ice water to revive. Along the art crawl I saw Half Price Books was having a sale. I found a dvd of God Is Great, and i am not for $2. If I perk up, I’ll watch my Mle Tatou movie. Damn, she’s a great comedienne.

Sweet Dreams, all of you, dream up a replacement for obummer.

  47. Jamie, here are my three picks for best love songs:

however, bet she’s made use of it being at a multi-plex showing “harry potter” blockbuster in order to film crowds of people lined up outside a theatre which has her name on the marquee.

Did a lot of sane people move out of Florida leaving us with a bunch of mentally deranged Tea Party idiots that don’t know why they believe in something they just believe as they are told?

Any one who says the Tea Party represents the fiscal conservatives needs to have their heads examined. The Tea Party is nothing more than a bunch of Koch brother funded, Bible thumbing, mindless sheep, social conservative, evangelical fundamentalists that take their ‘orders’ or direction from their pastors, radio and/or TV talk shows and never ask WHY.

Pass the tea and stop the manatee insanity!
By Sue Carlton, July 15, 2011

Possible future state slogan: Welcome to Florida, where we smite manatees.

Why? Because the Bible tells us so. Also, the Bill of Rights.

That’s right, you allegedly “gentle” sea cow: No more entitlements for you!

Just when you thought politics and public policy could get no weirder around here, local tea party members are protesting a plan to protect manatees — because it would be against God and country.

“We cannot elevate nature above people,” Edna Mattos, leader of the Citrus County Tea Party Patriots, told [St. Petersburg] Times reporter Craig Pittman. She was talking about the federal government’s plan for a manatee refuge in Kings Bay. Twisted

On the brighter side, Snooty the Manatee had his 63rd birthday party this weekend at the Parker Aquarium in the South Florida Museum in Manatee County, Florida.

Snooty is the world’s oldest captive manatee. Because Snooty was born and raised in captivity he does not have any boat propeller scars you see so often on wild manatees. Grin

Jamie, here’s votes for 2 songs…can not pick just one…its really a tie for me…

No One In The World by Anita Baker

Unforgettable by Natalie Cole & Nat King Cole (your list

her duet with him that is one of my all-time favorites)

Jamie… you said we could vote for 3 songs…

    Obama’s communications gap
    By David Ignatius

A prominent Bush administration official was talking privately about Barack Obama last week: He’s probably going to win in 2012, this Republican said. He deserves credit for “going big” in the budget talks and capturing the center of the debate. But why isn’t he projecting his goals and philosophy more clearly to the country? Why does he so often seem to react rather than lead?

Given Obama’s strengths, this Republican observer continued, his White House advisers should already be thinking about what Obama can achieve in a second term. They should begin drafting plans and policies, but even more, they should be communicating the president’s vision. Instead, every day at this White House seems like “The Perils of Pauline,” with one cliffhanger after another.

  63. Tonyb says:

A progressive case for deficit cutting?
President Obama says cutting now means more spending later. It didn’t work quite that way for President Clinton

I like the fact that the president is addressing his progressive critics without caricaturing them. And I still think he’s wrong. There are two problems with it, one practical, one political. Practically, there’s no evidence cutting the deficit by slashing trillions in federal spending can put “our fiscal house in order;” it might actually hurt the weak economy. And politically, even if we get the deficit issue “off the table,” Republicans will find new ways to smear Democrats and prevent them from keeping their promises to voters. We know, because we just watched it happen.

For a guy whose presidential candidacy was greatly defined by his not being a Clinton, Obama is clearly following the Bill Clinton playbook.

  64. Tonyb says:

    We’re Spent
    By DAVID LEONHARDT

THERE is no shortage of explanations for the economy’s maddening inability to leave behind the Great Recession and start adding large numbers of jobs: The deficit is too big. The stimulus was flawed. China is overtaking us. Businesses are overregulated. Wall Street is underregulated.

But the real culprit — or at least the main one — has been hiding in plain sight. We are living through a tremendous bust. It isn’t simply a housing bust. It’s a fizzling of the great consumer bubble that was decades in the making.

The auto industry is on pace to sell 28 percent fewer new vehicles this year than it did 10 years ago — and 10 years ago was 2001, when the country was in recession. Sales of ovens and stoves are on pace to be at their lowest level since 1992. Home sales over the past year have fallen back to their lowest point since the crisis began. And big-ticket items are hardly the only problem.

    The Clash of Generations
    By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

But there is an adult lurking. China has been buying Spanish, Portuguese and Greek bonds to help stabilize these Chinese export markets. “These are delicate times, and we take a positive role,” Yi Gang, deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China, told the British newspaper The Guardian in January.

This is a role America used to play, but can no longer afford. Anyone who thinks that this economic crisis, if prolonged, won’t also hasten a global power shift has never heard of the Golden Rule: He who has the gold, sets the rules. “We are so used to the Americans providing the solutions for Europe and leading,” said Vassilis T. Karatzas, a Greek money manager. “But what happens when we are both in the same boat?”

What happens is that both the American and European dreams hang in the balance. Either we both put our nations on more sustainable growth paths — which requires cutting, taxing and investing for the future — or we’re looking at a world in which democracies are going to turn on themselves and fight over shrinking pies, with China having a growing say over how big the slices will be.

Why Fighting Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs Is So Stupid
    Posted by Bryan Walsh

There’s dumb, there’s dumber and then there are the House Republicans—nearly all of them—who voted this morning to set the U.S. back on energy efficiency. By a quick voice vote, the House approved an amendment that would prevent funds from a 2012 spending bill to be used to implement federal light bulb standards. The amendment came after a similar separate bill failed to garner a two-thirds supermajority earlier this week in the House—although it did win a simple majority and all but 10 Republicans in the House voted for it, along with five Democrats.
The amendment stands little chance of surviving the Senate—not to mention President Obama’s veto powers—so today’s voice vote was mostly symbolic, like so much else Congress seems to be devoting its time to these days. But that symbolism is, frankly, terrible and stupid. What’s all the more amazing is that Republicans are attacking a light bulb efficiency standard that was passed in bipartisan fashion back in 2007, and signed by President George W. Bush—a man who will not exactly be remembered as the “environmental president.”

Could these Republican’s get any stupider, YES!!

9th Circuit again tells Obama administration to stop discharging gays
    Posted by John Aravosis

This whiplash is surely confusing for many people. The administration needs to stop saying that certification under the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act is coming soon and just issue it. But, even then, the actual end of the policy won’t happen for 60 days after certification. The government has failed to show any reason why the policy cannot be halted immediately other than to claim that the military will respond better if it is not having to do so pursuant to a court order. Imagine if other people ordered by courts to stop violating people’s rights similarly argued, don’t issue an injunction, just let me fix the problem myself, on my own timetable, while I continue breaking the law!

The End Game: Saving Obama From Himself
    Robert Kuttner

As the debt doomsday of August 2 draws closer, what sort of end-game can we imagine?

The worst scenario would be for an outbreak of common sense and self-interest to overtake the extremism of the House Republican caucus. If the Republicans were to accept Obama’s proffered deal, they would weaken Security and Medicare — and put the Democrats’ fingerprints on the deed — depriving Democrats of their traditional defense of America’s best loved social programs. They would also get a ten-year deficit-reduction agreement that is mostly program cuts. And they would get an austerity package that guarantees high unemployment as Obama heads into a difficult re-election. And a Democratic president is offering this deal!

The Republicans would also get to savor the spectacle of a badly divided Democratic Party, as the White House twists arms of unwilling House and Senate Democrats to vote for a right-wing package.

    Letting Bankers Walk
    By PAUL KRUGMAN

Ever since the current economic crisis began, it has seemed that five words sum up the central principle of United States financial policy: go easy on the bankers.

This principle was on display during the final months of the Bush administration, when a huge lifeline for the banks was made available with few strings attached. It was equally on display in the early months of the Obama administration, when President Obama reneged on his campaign pledge to “change our bankruptcy laws to make it easier for families to stay in their homes.” And the principle is still operating right now, as federal officials press state attorneys general to accept a very modest settlement from banks that engaged in abusive mortgage practices.

Why the kid-gloves treatment? Money and influence no doubt play their part; Wall Street is a huge source of campaign donations, and agencies that are supposed to regulate banks often end up serving them instead. But officials have also argued at each point of the process that letting banks off the hook serves the interests of the economy as a whole.

It doesn’t. The failure to seek real mortgage relief early in the Obama administration is one reason we still have 9 percent unemployment.

The New York Times runs a piece today, which was actually broken last week by Micah L. Sifry at Tech President after Obama reelect’s fundraising numbers leaked.

Interestingly, it also tells us something else–of the approximately 3 million individual donors who gave to Obama for his 2008 run, so far less than 10 percent have re-upped. You can spin that two ways: either it’s a reminder that many 2008 Obama supporters have lost their enthusiasm for him (and the PCCC has garnered the names of nearly 200,000 former Obama supporters who donated $17 million and gave 2 million volunteer hours in 2008 who have pledged not one iota if he makes cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid), or it’s a big fat juicy target pool for the president’s campaign team to mine for the months ahead. His (Obama’s)book was a book about a fundamentally conservative political creature obsessed with process, not someone grounded in the problems of ordinary people. He told us what his leadership style is, what his agenda was, and he’s executing it now.

I expressed skepticism towards Obama from 2005, onward. Paul Krugman, Debra Cooper, and Tom Ferguson among others pegged Obama correctly from day one. Obama broadcast who he was, through his conservative policy focus (which is how Krugman pegged him), his bank backers (which is how Ferguson pegged him), his political support of Lieberman (which is how I pegged him), and his cavalier treatment of women’s issues (which is how Debra Cooper pegged him). He is doing so again, with his choice to effectively remove Elizabeth Warren from the administration

Happy 93rd birthday Nelson Mandela.! Noble Peace Prize winner, and liberator of a country.!!!!

Noble Peace Prize winner Obama…and liberator of his Il Hyde Park Home; with illegal manipulations. After he got a huge break from his mortgage obligations; after becoming potus….he gave no help to millions of home owners that lost their homes (don’t feel sorry for the home flippers/investing in multiple homes for profit) and for liberating himself and his family of the church that held him hostage for more than …….15 yrs or more, like what is happening in the country…he did not know what was being preached by his minister……

But most of all; and meriting the nobel peace prize for advancing all of the existing wars….and creating some new ones…….oh and yes…for buying him and his wife a new image while doing all of those things mentioned and more……Oh and for Arugula….”let them eat cake”….no make that my B S…yeah thats the ticket…let them believe my lies……….

  118. solarcrete says:

Dang, how can i forget….He also Liberated the Banks and others….I still don’t believe the too big to fail bs…was just a bunch of lies…..there is plenty of things that point this out…..most of all is that they are ready to do again…the same people are in charge of it all……..

They say that folks vote their pocket book. If so then Obama may have a black problem as well as a liberal problem.

Since the end of the recession, which lasted from 2007 to 2009, the overall unemployment rate has fallen from 9.4 to 9.1 percent, while the black unemployment rate has risen from 14.7 to 16.2 percent, according to the Department of Labor.

About E. Warren: When I read that she was not getting the nod;that’s the same thing that came into my mind. I said to me…..this is going to be the last straw to many people; yes, very disappointing….

I can never vote for the R;s b/c of what they stand for now…in the past they were a lot different…but that wont and doesn’t mean that we can stay at home come election time. Thats the message and the headlines….”voters stay at home”

But if those that have a mind to do so…maybe just vote for any third party…imo that will give the papers a different story. ” The voters send out a strong message” by voting for third part nut cases….I can see it now….( fill in your favorite nut case here)…… Dennis K…runs on the platform of leaving earth and going to mars during his term…..I will vote and vote often for him……

    From your article:
“But when Gallup asked whether a voter’s congressperson should actually vote to raise the debt ceiling, only 22% said yes, with 42% giving a firm no.”

Remember whskyjack had the article Half of US social program recipients believe they “have not used a government social program” that had 40% of Medicare and Social Security recipients and Armed Forces veterans are being fooled by the rightwing propaganda machine. The same 40%? What happened to good old common sense?

  127. jaxtrader says:

    Tony,
That 40% is about the number that have actually paid in what they are taking out. I suspect that most of those don’t consider it a social program when they are simply trying to get their money back.

Jack this from the Stoller piece you posted as well!

Contrast this with Barack Obama, a person who never fails to wrap his true agenda in gauzy opaque process jargon. Obama won’t back his own NLRB or Boeing workers, or even Boeing itself; he thinks that neither side should waste time in court. He won’t announce Social Security or Medicare cuts, he wants it to be part of a Grand Bargain for whom no one has to take responsibility. He demands an end to earmarks, or something, but we need an infrastructure bank or something. As a result, the Democratic Party is enmeshed right now in a guessing game about the true goals of their leader, paralyzed and unable to govern. When Warren is present, by contrast, the Republicans are able to argue strongly that they do not believe in government as an agent of good, while Democrats are able to articulate the opposite. It’s a real, open, honest debate. There’s no sliding around with 11 dimensional chess nonsense, it’s straight up democracy.

    Jax,
Maybe that’s so but whatever happened to plain ole common sense as Purple described. I don’t think it makes good sense for any of us to expect from government exactly what we’ve paid in, especially when most receive far more than they have paid in(and they know it too) I also don’t like hearing programs like SS and Medicare being called entitlements, makes them sound like welfare..It reminds of my tea party co-worker who’s husband has just lost his job because the space shuttle is no more..Grace hates government until it comes to NASA and receiving SS and Medicare, she loves them government goodies, oh and tri-care for life too..

    Mqw,

obummer may have meant that the check writers & mailers might not be considered ‘essential’, and might be sent home. Maybe. As to the ‘missing’ social security trust fund :

    Yes ! We have no s.s. fund;

We have no s. s. fund today.

    We’ve Morgan and GM,

    And Goldman and BA,

And all sorts of frauds to pay.

But, yes we have no s. s. fund,

We have no s. s. fund today !

I was hoping that Sturgeone could get this one up on You Tube before the IA caucuses.

MQW, Jim Patterson is an old old friend. His sister and I were best friends in high school and I just saw him again in San Antonio at my friend’s son’s wedding. He worked his way up from the bottom in all these years since I last saw him. I have a feeling you’d like him so if you ever meet him, tell him Bormann said to say hi. He’s hard nosed but underneath it, very kind. His dad and mine used to drink at Cousin Hugo’s on the outskirts of our suburb.

Jamie, thanks for the link. I never thought much about that song because Make Beleive over-shadowed it, but ten or so years ago, there was a Showboat revival on B;way, and I flew to NYC for a long weekend to see it. We had outrageously fantastic seats, and seeing and hearing that sung up close…well, I fell hard. I love Allen Jones, and who knew Irene Dunne could sing? I had a vcr of that film and lent it to someone, and of course, never saw it again. I adore Howard Keel, but Allen Jones….

XR, Okay, what do you want for brekky? Sorry, but I should have guessed Gramm made others as ill as he made me. I couldn’t come up with a name that would be as attention-grabbing to make my point. Armey? Delay? Cornyn? Nah. Gramm is conceivably the most disgusting man to even look at in the history of the world. I can just see, if O loses, and the new rep prez appoints
Brownback or Coburn -- doubters will be screaming more than bloody murder. Does anyone feel like adding to the list of repubs who might want to be on scotus?
