    WOO! WOO!
Craig… it was fun… we just need to get used to the format and it’ll go more smoothly.

Gotta run… we’re throwing a party at a restaurant for my mother-in-law who turns 83 on Wednesday.

  2. Format? what’s that? we’ll just make it up as we go along. Happy Birthday to Mama Renee

  3. Flatus says:

I _really_ wanted to talk about Trayvon.

  4. Join us tomorrow Flatus, can talk about that for sure

  5. Jamie says:

Your own voice surprises you when you hear it.

  6. Flatus says:

These hoodie wearing guys might need to be careful out there.

  8. Jamie says:

    Flatus

Robeson’s voice was so beautiful and filled with power.

  9. Jamie et al, this radio thingie was a good dry-run. The techinicals worked far better than I expected, so we can move on to content and creative stuff. BTW, can’t upload youtube files for music. But can use any music in the following formats (just need to send the file to me a few hours in advance so that I can get it processed in time for use on air): .mp3, .wma or .wav

  10. Jamie says:

    Craig

Amazon carries a whole host of songs at 99 cents each. Just do a search with title and the format. Here’s what came up when I searched for Don’t Fence Me In mp3

    http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Fence-Me-In/dp/B000WU0SQ4

  11. Jamie says:

If one of our tech gurus could help with instructions on how to pull a wav file out of I Tunes or from downloaded music and send it to somewhere else, I’ve got about 2000 pieces of music on my computer. Of course perfect for the show would be Star Trek’s Data singing “life forms”

  12. Jamie says:

Cheney had a heart transplant today. I suppose I wish him well, just think there must have been someone more deserving who just didn’t have his money and power to buy one.

  13. solarcrete says:

    Jamie…..Fair,

Don’t let the dick cheney know about this….far as im concerned….he can go to heaven right now…..we don’t want his kind down here….

Japanese investigators argue that exposure to opera music after heart transplants gave lab mice a better chance of accepting the new organs. This is a very interesting link, which is definitely worth exploring in humans as well.

The body needs all the help it can get in order to accept new organs. After such procedures are conducted on humans, recipients usually take immunosuppressive medication, which prevents their immune systems from attacking the heart.

If this effort to avoid rejection can be improved and made more efficient by listening to music, then this is a link definitely worth exploring. Researchers published their study showing the link in the open-access journal Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, which is edited by BioMed Central.

What the team determined was that opera music somehow influences mice’s immune systems, so that they do not attack the new organs so severely. This translates into higher chances of success for the transplant, Science Daily reports.

In humans, music is known to produce a host of beneficial effects, such as improving the general results of clinical therapies, distracting patients from their pain, and making it easier for them to relax.

However, no one investigated a potential link between music and transplant success rates. The Japanese researchers say that conducting a series of clinical trials on humans could reveal whether the same positive link exists in our species as well.

Music may act via the parasympathetic nervous system, some scientists believe, which may help explain why it influences bodily functions that run automatically. This may also be why music is effective in therapies meant to reduce anxiety following heart attacks.

The research group that led the investigation included scientists from the Juntendo University Hospital (JUH), the Teikyo University, and the Tokyo Women’s Medical University, all in Japan, and the Harbin Medical University, in China.

An interesting aspect of the new study is that it demonstrated a positive link only when the mice were exposed to opera and classical music, but not monotones, individual sound wave frequencies or new age music, Science Daily reports.

“Opera exposed mice had lower levels of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and interferon gamma (IFN-γ). They also had increased levels of anti-inflammatory IL-4 and IL-10. Significantly these mice had increased numbers of CD4+CD25+ cells, which regulate the peripheral immune response,” Dr Masanori Niimi explains.

  14. xrepublican says:

I wonder. Did dick cheney get Trayvon’s heart ?

    Enquiring people want to know

  15. Jamie…on Cheney,

Beat me to it you did.

So someone who truly deserved a heart didn’t get it because the oil pump pumping the black gold through Cheney’s veins died and needed replacement.

    Now about the show:

The show was good, however here’s my two cents worth.

The only problem which wasn’t all that bad was when everyone started to talk at once. Some one should really direct or choose who should answer or ask a question then ask for followups or other ideas on what was ask or mentioned.

This way there will be some order and make identifing whom is answering or asking.

The other item I would like to mention is the music. I could see ending the show with Happy Trails since it is the end of the show, until next time.

Route 66 sounds good for the start and Craig can do a lead in as too (Like Hey gang, welcome to another edition of Trail Mix on the Air, Tonight we will be talking about) what may be discused and who may be on the line waiting to ask or answer whatever the discussion might be about.

Well that’s it for me. Going to MSNBC TV and watch this mornings Up with Cris Hayes.

Later gang and have a great evening.

  16. solarcrete says:

What that article does not tell us is why Opera is such a good music ( it tries to) for the heart…..opera music is the closest music to the hearts rhythms…..

Then there are musics that help keep the aging process away for a while……..Wanna Know???

This is why i party my ass offffffff keeps solar young and bright, oh and an ice cold bud…..later

  17. xrepublican says:

Ya just had to know that musical dramas about men and women wearing each other’s clothes, moms and dads murdering their kids, Dukes raping the daughters of clowns, knights who ride swans, and princesses having all their suitors tortured to death would have beneficial effects on mice. Funny we didn’t all know that before Japanese scientists pointed it out.

I think we should send Maxtrue to help out his hero cheney. Send him into the recovery room to play Turandot turned up to 11. We could see how that works with real people.

  18. purple-in-tampa says:

    Craig, Sunday is March 25.

Otaku24/me168/grandson and I will try to join the radio thingie tomorrow at 6:00 PM ET

IMO President Obama’s failures in Healthcare:

    • Encouraged Health Care Issues similar to Republican state plans and pointedly rejected the single-payer option.

    • Obama promised his Health Care law would lower premiums but the fact is the law has caused an increase in premiums.

    • A total Lack of Transparency using behind-the-scenes deals with doctor and hospital groups, insurance industry, and pharmaceutical companies to block any Congressional effort to extract any extra cost savings.

  19. xrepublican says:

3 Cheers for Purple In Tampa

  20. purple-in-tampa says:

What are the odds that Dick Cheney was on the heart transplant donor organ list like us normal people? I wonder if he had his hit squad take out a match for him?

  21. purple-in-tampa says:

Thanks XR, sorry to be absent for a while. Maybe we can talk on the radio thingie tomorrow.

  22. Ree says:

Trail Mix radio what a great idea.

  23. Jamie says:

Hi Ree You haven’t been around for awhile. What is happening?

XR -- In case someone needs it Smile

  24. purple-in-tampa says:

It is time for a rant!

A major undermining of our securities law took place on March 22, 2012 in the Senate and on March 8, 2012 in the House, – in a rushed moment of legislative madness that duped most Democrats.

I am opposed to the amended H.R.3606, it is not a jobs bill it is a pro Wall Street bill! It is a bill the strips existing regulations for the benefit of Wall Street and erodes investor confidence. Without investor confidence capital markets are not “markets” but Wall Street casinos.

Financial deregulation was the result of decades-long hallucination and bipartisan consensus. Deregulation was the root of the financial crisis just past, but no on in the administration seems to have gotten the memo. This bill is astonishingly wrong-headed, which means it is par for the course for Team Obama.

I think that with the hundreds of billions of taxpayer monies for TARP and the untold trillions of dollars of taxpayer monies the Federal Reserve has given Wall Street that they should not get any more advantages! Their management should be in prison!

The securities industry special interests are naturally out in force – strongly supported by Senator Charles Schumer of New York and Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reports of the death of Wall Street lobbying power have been greatly exaggerated. I am always skeptical of Senator Charles Schumer as his constituent is Wall Street and I would suggest major campaign contributors. Congress should be putting forward a Constitutional Amendment that will create a Federal Campaign Finance Reform funding for Congress and the President.
I am not the only one who does not line the bill!

    • Professor Jay R. Ritter, University of Florida Warrington College of Business Administration testimony before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Tuesday, March 6, 2012, a leading expert on IPOs, put it this way:

I do not think that the bills being considered will result in a flood of companies going public. I do not think that these bills will result in noticeably higher economic growth and job creation.

In fact, he also argued that the measures under consideration “might be to reduce capital formation.”

    • Professor John C. Coates IV, Professor of Law and Economics,
Harvard Law School, hit the nail on the head:

“While the various proposals being considered have been characterized as promoting jobs and economic growth by reducing regulatory burdens and costs, it is better to understand them as changing, in similar ways, the balance that existing securities laws and regulations have struck between the transaction costs of raising capital, on the one hand, and the combined costs of fraud risk and asymmetric and unverifiable information, on the other hand.” (See p.3 Subcommittee on Securities, Insurance, and Investment of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs United States Senate on Examining Investor Risks in Capital Raising, December 14, 2011 testimony.)

    • William K. Black, Associate Professor, University of Missouri, Kansas City; Senior regulator during S&L debacle, in a letter opposing the bill, is more curt:

The “Jumpstart Our Business Startups” Act, the comically forced effort to create a catchy acronym, is the most cynical bill to emerge from a cynical Congress and Administration. It is an exemplar of why Congressional approval ratings are well below those of used car dealers. The JOBS Act is something only a financial scavenger could love. It will create a fraud-friendly and fraud-enhancing environment. It will add to the unprecedented level of financial fraud by our most elite CEOS that has devastated the U.S. and European economies and cost over 20 million people their jobs. Financial fraud is a prime jobs killer.

    • Even Securities and Exchange Commission Chairperson Mary Schapiro told senators that while the measure includes some “promising approaches,” it needs to be strengthened in several areas to protect investors. In particular, she said the bill would roll back key rules put in place following the dot-com boom and the Enron accounting scandals intended to protect investors.

    • According to the CRS Summary Paragraph 5:
“Amends the the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 to exempt a registered public accounting firm that prepares or issues a report on its audit of an emerging growth company from the requirement that it attest to, and report on, any assessment of internal controls the company’s management has made.” I think audits should include “the requirement that it attest to, and report on, any assessment of internal controls the company’s management has made.”

  29. Jamie says:

Unfortunately no one got Trayvon’s heart. so even that much good didn’t come out of it. They have to harvest while still beating or very very rapidly after death.

Cheney has been on the list for 20 months, but he is 71 years old. Most insurance companies have an age 65 cut off, so once more the rules don’t apply to him only to others.

Borowitz reported the news as only he can. Cheney gets new heart -- Bush still waiting for a brain.

It’s Ironic, But PIT, my Grandpa, posts a Rant the same day that I do XD

I believe (And I’m probably crazy for making a VERY Long-Term prediction like this) that in 2 Elections (The 2012 & 2016 Elections) Will be the last years that the two Main Parties will be the Dems and GOP in the Election.

My Generation (Which is counting for anybody ages 10 -- 25) will propel the Independents to get their own political primary.

My Generation, when we will look back on it, will be famous for 2 things, Crazy Dress- wearing Lady Singers with Fake names (Lady Gaga), and Memes.

What is a Meme? These are just a few examples of what a Meme is.

    This Example is from Boxxy
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yavx9yxTrsw&context=C4261966ADvjVQa1PpcFNh_Xf0Zj33MrIxVuW_T0lZPBGGWKu4r2Y=

This is a 3 Minute video with 100 Examples of Memes
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6VCnYkNYLo&feature=endscreen&NR=1

And this is a Secret Smile Sorry
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

Another few well known examples are Keyboard Cat, Numa Numa Guy, Leroy Jenkins, Star Wars kid, and Caramelldansen (Which is a very old and original example)

Now, there is a genre of this called Hipster Memes: which here is a short video explanation of it
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj0grrzAGvE

I know a lot of people who are Hipsters, and they know enough about politics and want to vote. Since Hipsters break away from the norm, this would mean that Hipsters would resort to Independent/ No party. Now, even though that if a lot of people follow what they do, they won’t go back to Dem/GOP, due to Independent/NP allowing you to pick what you believe in.

A surge in Independents will grow this enough tp get its own Platforms, and its own Primary.

Hopefully this will happen, because our current 2 party system is crumbling beneath our feet. If we have a repeat of what happened between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, with both parties crumbling and dissolving in a matter of a few short years, this would throw America in a loophole that, at this point in our history, we cant afford.

(I hope the videos helped explain this very large and undefined subject of Memes. Also, this is a HUGE risk, making a 4-12 year prediction into the future, but its worth it to talk about.)

Events like that and Wiunion in February 2011 were the big kicks in the backside I needed to wake up, speak up and get involved. I was pretty much an uninvolved dolt before then. That person no longer exists, period.

  53. jace says:

    Sjwny,
Thanks for the clarification. I rather doubt that you were ever an uninvolved dolt.

The AZ. political class has spent the last several years doing all they can to make AZ. the laughingstock of the nation. The transplant measure was just one of many examples. Not willing to rest on their laurels however, they have taken up such measures as SB 1060, and a delightful new contraceptive measure, and a bill that would allow students to carry guns on college campuses. When time allowed they dealt with real issues like gutting public education, and fur-lowing state workers. After the important work was done they managed to find time to investigate the president’s birth certificate. My tax dollars at work!
Sadly, as ridiculous as most of this stuff is, the majority of these clowns will be reelected.
    Go figure.

Political News of interest from Western New York State:

Former Erie County Executive Chris Collins (R) announced he is running to challenge Representative Kathy Hochul (D) in the 27th Congressional District, NY.
Both candidates are highly qualified, interesting, intelligent people, who also have the bonus of being super connected within their respective parties.
Mr. Collins is facing a Primary challenge from David Bellavia, an Iraq War Veteran who hails from the more rural part of the District.
Rep. Hochul won the Special Election that was called after Rep. Chris Lee resigned in disgrace due to the shirtless picture scandal.
(Rep. Lee was actually doing a good job -- too bad personal foibles can matter more than how a politician works for his constituents. He was thought of highly for how he helped the Flight 3407 crash victims’ families in Western New York.)
This is sizing up to be a big, big money race. I wouldn’t be surprised if major players from both Parties start visiting my neck of the woods.

  75. Flatus says:

Stinky is on the road to recovery. She stayed in bed again this morning but left me with strict instructions not to fix anything for her. In other words, she’s sick of/because of my cooking. I did find yesterday morning’s oatmeal in the refrigerator along with her apple juice. I pitched both.

After a while she arose and fried a couple of eggs. I poured her coffee and juice and applied my most pleasant demeanor. She declared the eggs to be terrible and the juice awful but she finished both!

The acute pain has subsided and the heating pad has provided comfort as well. Tomorrow, I’ll figure out something or other to get her into the doc.

Thanks, all, for your kindness along the way.

CT -- Whenever Bill Maher talks about Rush Limbaugh, he always says that it did happen to him. He was forced off ABC because of some stupid comments that he made. It will not happen again because he is on HBO now with no advertisers. HBO will keep him as long as they enjoy the content and feel that it is watchable for an audience. Maher is correct that as much as we hate Limbaugh you cannot permanently shut him up just because you don’t agree with him. If that becomes a reality, the Republicans will shut down Current and any sane nay-sayers as soon as they can.

My motives were not to drive Rush off the air but rather to serve notice on his advertisers that I could not contribute to their profitability if they supported a man who spent three days reviling and abusing an educated young woman simply because she dared to testify before Congress. He did not just disagree with her. He spewed hours of filth and obscenity regarding her speculated sexual activity.

If the above resulted in his getting fired because he was no longer economically viable for his employers, too bad. He can go exercise his freedom of speech on top of a soap box or speaking for a fee before people whose opinions are as vile as his own.

    Jaslf..

I just reserving my right to bitch to high heaven about Rush. OK. Won’t hurt my feelings if it knocks the pig off the air. What will be will be.

And I second Jamie’s comment. Thanks Jamie..saves me some writing.

I dumped HBO because of the things Bill Maher said about Hillary.

  79. ct says:

And Jaslf..I take it that you’re not a woman. If you were..both of those guys might get to ya.

  80. jaslf says:

Jamie and CT -- you are missing the point entirely. You may feel anger now but you are going to regret it sooner or later. I obviously do not like what he said. I have commented on its disgusting nature before. The problem is that it sets a precedent, which we will not like the future. You have to think beyond the present or you will be just as lost the as the Republicans.
CT -- It doesn’t matter that I am not a woman. You do not need to be a woman to know right from wrong. Being a woman does not make a person more able to distinguish between just and unjust. It is just a person’s gender, there are no magical powers given to those who are that gender.

  81. xrepublican says:

I subscribe to Jamie’s comments of 4:28. Current will sink or swim on its own. But rush insulted an entire gender (heaton is just too f*c*ing stupid to get it) and when the buyers of America declare they won’t buy crap produced by rushian advertisers, it is a huge wallop.

I seriously doubt that rippers can generate that sort of clout.

Re Maher: In found him and his show to be shallow and rude. I don’t give a rip if free enterprise drove him from the air. I wouldn’t have purchased from his sponsors anyway, so my opinion about his *hitt* show didn’t matter.

Under the 1st Amendment the Constitution government frees us to associate with whom they wish, and that includes commercial associations. Boycotts are therefore legal activities. Imo.

  82. ct says:

I don’t think Jaslf gets it. I can lose my job if I say things that offend the people I work for. That’s life! We all have the freedom of speech but we also suffer the consequences of what we say.
