btw, woo hoo and yee haw for emphasis
Craig… nice appearance. You and Spitzer are good together.
Saw Romney’s speech in Wisconsin… geeeez… not even a hint of passion on his part. Let’s face it… the race has gotten boooooooring. Hope it picks up steam later.

Jace,
I lived in Phoenix so long ago that “Camelback” was way out of town and it took ages for my father to drive up to some sort of Indian memorial that I have now forgotten, but I loved the altitude after the heat of old downtown Phoenix
OMG… I was just over at TPM and saw that when asked by a reporter if her husband was too stiff, Ann Romney replied:”No, we need to unzip him and let the real Mitt Romney out.”
oh yeah… with gaffe’s like that, she’ll bring lots of charm to his campaign alrighty… LMAO!
Arizona? Flagstaff in the 60s was my special place.
In the 1960′s I lived in a Los Angeles where you could drive 90 mph on the freeway’s except from 7-8am and 5-6pm … It was a lovely place. We should have put up a fence on the Eastern border … all those darn people who watched the Rose Parade in January and decided to move!!!
Flatus,
Flagstaff is about 4 hours by car from where I live.
We find any excuse to get there as often as we can.
Sedona and Prescott are are a couple of our favorite destinations as well.
Jamie,
We visited Phoenix when I was all of 9 or 10 years old.
My memories of that trip include having an orange grove right across the street from our motel, and going to see a spring training baseball game, Chicago Cubs.
For a boy of my age it seemed like heaven.
Consumer Tip: Learned something today worth passing on. Find out now if your central air conditioning unit needs refrigerant because prices have quadrupled since January and expected to go higher this summer.
Here at Trail Mix headquarters it is costing $900 just for the refrigerant after repairing a small valve leak.
Why? Because the EPA has phased out the refrigerant used in all but the newest units because it contains ozone-eating hydrocarbons — and producers (Dupont, Honeywell, usual suspects) are gouging customers for the dwindling supply.
In the old days of cheap refrigerant you could tolerate a small leak and just replace the juice. No more. Which, of course, is good for the environment, so that’s “cool.”
But going forward, our AC repair folks say that their industry is buzzing about shortages this summer, meaning that customers will be forced to replace entire units using the new environment-friendly stuff.
So that’s your consumer tip for the season from Trail Mix Headquarters: Check your refrigerant needs NOW before it gets hot and prices go higher, if you can find it.
“Rising AC refrigerant prices could put a chill on your wallet”.. http://bit.ly/zPpVIw
All this talk of early Phoenix -- Just have to put on some Carrot Top
Hmmm, my wallet has been chilled since 2007/08.
I think that I will look into the health benefits of sweating.
Yep Jace, after this sticker shock I’m thinking it’s time for an all-nude summer
Craig,
Not sure of the age of your AC unit, but if it is more than 5 years old, the cost to replace that same unit has more than doubled. The new AC units also have the new and higher SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio)standards. My partner and I learned of this change when we had to replace our AC units. Surprise, surprise
Our annual service contract is $144/pa. John came last month and did his normal, very professional, two hour job. He reported the micro leak in the upstairs coil appeared to be more active.
As usual, he topped the system up, something less than a pound, said we’ll continue to keep the old unit in service as long as possible, but be prepared for the inevitable as the unit is 16-yo.
The current issue of Consumers Reports rates the units. I respect their opinions less than I did years ago. So, John’s recommendation will carry the most weight when the time comes.
We’ll see him again in September when he checks the furnace and puts the gauges on the ac one more time.
John works for a large company. But, he’s the only tech that we’ll allow on our property. Most of his clients have the same type of relationship with him.
Oh, the contract includes a pound of R-22 and reflects a substantial olde folkes discount.
Watching Stephanie Miller on Current and truly enjoy listening to Jacki Schechner on the news. She has a great voice for delivery that doesn’t grate on your ears the way many female voices do when speaking rapidly.
Yep MovOn, we’re told a new 5-ton unit like ours runs up to $9,000 installed. Ours is 8 years old, supposed to last another few with these leak repairs. Fingers crossed.
We just put in a new unit a little over a year ago and between it and the energy saving windows installed at the same time, the utility bills took a huge nose dive monthly. May finally pay for themselves sometime before need to replace …
LOL! The comments here this morning more than adequately reveal how boring the Republican race has become…
12 yrs ago, Rick and I celebrated our 25th anniversary. He said we’d go wherever I wanted… and I chose to celebrate the day with a hot air balloon ride over the desert. We spent 12 glorious days in Arizona… mostly in the Sedona area… and a bit in Flagstaff.
I’ll never forget the ride from Phoenix up to Sedona. As the flat barren desert converged into those beautiful red rocks… it took my breath away.
Flatus, we have a reliable local company under contract, agree it sure does help to get to know these guys. Unfortunately our leak is bad enough to overwork the compressor and shorten its life, so gotta be fixed or even higher cost down the road.
Jamie, afraid TM HQ not well insulated at all. At 118 years old, many of the windows are so weirdly sized and shaped they’re almost irreplaceable. So we’ve got most just sealed off.
BTW I so agree about Stephanie Miller’s show. Loving it, she is truly funny. Had only heard her radio show on days I went on, listening on the phone while waiting to go on air. Now that she’s on my TV it’s a morning staple.
TM RADIO UPDATE: Setting up a time tomorrow, maybe Noon ET, to chat with Oldseahag about Easter chocolates, etc. It will be a pre-record for the weekend but anyone can still call in and join us. I’ll keep you posted on exact time and phone number.
Be sure to ask her about the “Stoner Food”. That stuff should be as illegal as the things people are smoking to get in a condition to need it.
Skip the pot: Go straight to the REAL addiction.
Greetings from the desert. We have two a/c units, one on each side of the house. We also have whole house insurance for about $50 a month which covers just about everything in our home should it go out. We’ve used it to replace one a/c compressor, one hot water tank, one garbage disposal, and six faucets (the house is ten years old). We’re about even on the costs thus far. But, I hear you, Craig, on the a/c unit costs. $9K might be too low for a 5 ton unit.

Interesting discussion with ES last night. I enjoy his being a wonk. But, I suspect he’ll turn a lot of people off with the arcane business of SEC rules, et cetera. KO was on David Letterman last night and more or less told his side of things at Current. He was very contrite and admitted his mistake in going to Current in the first place. The court battle should be a lesson in politics as well when it hits the air waves.
One last post from the desert. AZ is one of the most beautiful and diverse states one can image. Unfortunately, the right wing Republicans and their Tea Party supporters have really left a very negative image with the public that is so far out of contrast with the beauty of the state that there are times when I just want to throw up and move away. Neither Barry Goldwater nor Ronald Reagon could get elected today in AZ politics. Not that I would vote for either one of them then or now; but, that’s how far right and mean spirited the powers in this state have become. Have a great day everyone.
eprof, thanks for bringing that up. here’s huffpo on it plus video

Hello eProf2 so glad you’re off your RV trail and back on ours. Luv to talk to you about your trip if you can call in tomorrow (details in my comment above).
Yep, I enjoy chatting with Spitzer, as I do Granholm on Current. Both so engaged and having fun. But then I’ve always been partial to governors as political players, succeeding in that job requires a unique variety of skills.
from the above huffpo link:
missing a bulb there, keith? dimmed a bit by a power surge.
We’re preparing for another RV trip to start next week out on the desert. Perhaps, after we get back, we can visit on the radio about dry camping without an unlimited water supply or electricity for four or five days for us old geezers in retirement. I’m looking forward to listening to OldSeaHag and you discuss chocolate (and politics, of course).
Ah yes, good old AC\Heat is something that I grew up without like so many of those here. Never had central air and heat until around 1990 I believe.
The AC\Heat unit in this house I got will need to be replaced soon. The AC unit is 10 years old and had a problem when I first moved in. Something inside the coil or one of the little attached pieces on the AC unit itself was causing the circuit to trip the breaker. It would get hot and trip it almost immediately when turned on.
Whatever was causing the restriction seemed to clear up by itself so I’m not sure where the problem was and the man whom I knew cleaned and checked everything out and could find nothing wrong.
However, I do need to replace the whole AC\Heat unit soon. The bigger problem is my windows which are the old crank three pane type. I believe there called jealousy windows and they do not shut as tight as they did when this house was built in 1958.
The Heat furnace is 24 years old now and the AC unit is 11 years old. I will have to replace the whole thing even though I have been told that I could still get a AC unit for the Furnace unit if the AC unit dies. The problem with that is if the furnace goes afterwards I would not be able to replace the furnace only, I would have too replace both.
Since I do not have the funds right now to replace my windows which I really need to do if I replace the whole thing this summer I do not know how much in savings I would actually get.
A neighbor who does work involving water heaters, ac and heating units told me he could put in a 2 Ton unit for around $1500 hundred to 2 Thousand dollars. I need to see how much it will cost to replace just a few windows (extended living room and my bedroom). That’s five large size windows which would go a long way to lowering my electric bill.
So far in the last year (9 months) I have had three bills over two hundred dollars (2 over 2 and 1 over 3). My previous bills from my last place of residence never went over $250 with the average being around $170 or less with maybe one or two just barely over $200 dollars.
Otherwise I have had good luck with the rest of the vital items in the house.
Well got to finish reading a lot of other sites I read though very few I leave comments on. Just trying to keep up with what’s going on can take some time.
Later all and have a great day.
Oldsea confirmed for our web radio recording tomorrow 1-2pm ET. Hope some of you can join us. Call anytime during the hour: (347) 838-8595

Craig… I’d consider calling in…. but the Red Sox opening season game starts tomorrow at 1pm. Just ask David… I bet he’s excited about a new season too.
RR, well then call in and handicap the season for us
Craig,
Received the following tweet from Jacki Schechner
JackiSchechner @jessied44 Done. Thank you. That’s really nice of you to say. I wonder if @Craig_Crawford remembers the first time we met. And where. Hmmm..
Alec and voter suppression
Jamie, I worked with jackie on a pioneering web video venture called pseudo.com when i was running The Hotline. she’s the greatest
Craig
You should add her to your twitter list. I really like her. Current truly needs a good woman newscast person.
Hi All and good evening!
Anon,
Why not check Window World? My house is 5 years old but i had the builder put in the cheap double hung..After i moved in I had Window World http://www.windowworld.com/
put in double hung double pained vinyl windows..Argon gas in between the pains for better insulation too..They only charge $189 a window base price and a bit more for the gas..
I also had them do the previous house too..Good company and they stand behind there products and work..My bills with Florida Power and Light run about $170 this time of year through September and i also have the pool and hotub.I also use a small wall units in my bedroom and my nieces so we can sleep really cool and turn the A/C way up for the rest of the house..I have my A/C on now and its set at 84 with ceiling fans and i’m really comfortable..
OMG… I was just over at TPM and saw that when asked by a reporter if her husband was too stiff, Ann Romney replied:”No, we need to unzip him and let the real Mitt Romney out.” RR
My current favorite Ann Romney remark was after the Michigan primary -- when she said “I’ve been to the tip of the Mitt….”
Sorry folks but I think twisting Ann Romney’s words into sexual innuendoes she never meant to imply is no different than what the right wing does to just about anything Michele Obama says. Just my personal opinion.
Tonyb…
I believe that they are 50″ x 52′ and three pane, at least by my measurements which may be off slightly.
I did look at FAS Windows and Doors, but I do not have very much left in savings so I could only have a couple done at a time if I did. And then I still would need several years I think to be able to save enough to do them all.
Might not work out for saving very much in electric costs cost until there all done which is what I want to do.
Just think if I could really win a couple of thousand tonight in the Power Ball or Lottery. Just enough to do windows, doors, pay off my mortgage and have enough to make ends meet until I’m called by the Lord.
Oh well, one can dream can one not?
Later, time for Ed. Have a great evening.
PS: I meant at least 0ne or Two Hundred Thousand which would do me quite well. Not enough to be considered rich, but enough to take care of my needs now and going forward.
Later,
I think she does it on purpose because she keeps doing it and everyone gets a big laugh from it. I don’t think anyone is twisting her words or meaning — when she said ‘she’d been to the tip of the Mitt’ — the entire audience broke out laughing and she laughed at it herself
twisting her words…. naaah… just having a little fun…
it helps to have a sense of humor when following politics…
I see Romney has not only thrown Shrub under the bus but drove over him. He said Obama did not cause the financial crisis -- he made it worse but still that means no defense of Shrub
And Ari Fleshier — could there be a more disingenuous human being..I don’t think so
Hello Anon,
Oh, can’t watch Ed anymore as he shouts way to much…The Window World windows are all $189 each.. Maybe they have no interest financing or a low payment setup? Just check out the web sight, maybe you can do a few at a time..I know how tough things are in this economy as i paid $3.99 for the first time today for gas, man that’s $15 a fill up more than a year ago when i bought this Chevy Cruze..It would be different if this was the only thing that’s went up but food and Car/House Insurance has went through the roof as well!! Am i better off than i was 3.2 years ago hell NO…
I saw the clip of Ann Romney speaking about Mitt and i think she was humanizing him and their relationship..I heard them all laugh and i thought well of her…Sexing things up, well maybe but she is doing it naturally..I like Ann Romney, she’s real, her husband, not so much!
cc….ahmo sain ma numba…..
