Nice tie, Craig.
portman : “He’s turned companies around.”
Ya, he put the managers into mao suits.
I thought it was weird that the host asked if the campaign would not be defined by what happens between now and Labor Day.
The SCOTUS already defined the campaign in the Citizens United decision. Now, it’s just a matter of details.
Just think if the corporate scandals of Enron, WorldCom, and Tyco had occurred during the Obama administration the executives would have never have gone to jail.

No matter how you cut it, it doesn’t make sense.
Xrep… it does if you’re a corporate whore… and wanting to ensure that your side wins because you don’t get this Democracy thing…
Renee,
Well, there is that of course….
I never heard anyone ever accuse the SCOTUS’s Gang of 5 of getting “this Democracy thing”
Actually it’s supposed to be a republic , with the representatives being elected through a democratic process , not a democracy
That was the original intent anyway
mqw
Now if the representatives were actually chosen through a democratic process, you might be on to something. Of course with Citizens United, gerrymandering, voter roll shenanigans and destruction of access, you can no longer call the US either a Democracy or a Republic.
Well I didn’t say it was working out to well ,
But there is a distinction between a democracy and a constitutional republic
I’m sure Obama and the democrats will take the moral high ground and not use super pacs for the November elections , especially after Obama publicly chastised the supreme court for the citizens united decision
, hah
MQW,
You’re right, it is a republic, however as you point out, we are supposed to have democratic processes.
Besides the massive disappearance of Florida ballots in 2000 & the SCOTUS Gore decision, the massive disappearance of ballots in OH 2004, the Citizens United decision, and the ALEC conspiracy to suppress minority and youth voting, I’d say that our democratic processes not ‘working out too well’ is an understatement. Also, the phrase doesn’t indicate just who promotes and who allows the undemocratic processes to flourish.
I maintain that the SCOTUS’ Gang of 5 allows the undemocratic processes to flourish. An ‘originalist’ might say, “I don’t see a clause in the Constitution that prohibits manipulating elections artificially, and if the Founding Fathers had disapproved, they’d have said so.”
Of course oh,bummer is taking advantage of the SCOTUS decision.
As soon as Citizens came down, the O team founded a superpac. Imo they hoped to reap colossal contributions from their ‘friends’ on Wall Street. Instead, Wall Street ran a neo-conman of their own.
Maybe the O team thought Christian rightwingnutz would stop willard and secure the nomination of batshitcrazy religious freak like bachmann -- someone that Wall Street would hate. I don’t know what else would explain the O team’s joyful acceptance of the Citizens decision.

I am loving watching the media, especially right-wing media, have a good time with Hillary Clinton today, and the pictures of her drinking a beer and dancing down in Columbia this past weekend. If only they could find a way to get Romney to connect better with the regular working folks, and not seem so robotic and distant. Perhaps he and wife Ann could salsa and throw-back some Corona’s down in Florida somewhere.

Mr. Crawford, I am the caller who mentioned your Mother on CSPAN and asked about the Supreme Court decision unleashing “the dogs.” Thanks for your answer. I am looking forward to the book on it that you mentioned writing. Since no one on your site here took notice I wanted to drop in and say there are plenty of us out there who appreciate all that you do for us regular folk.
dogd…
Welcome to TM dogd. Do not be a stranger. There are a bunch of wonderful people here who will welcome you and look forward to your views, both political and anything else you wish to talk about.
We all appreciate what Craig does for us and that is why a lot of us here have been with him since he first started his blog in 2005 I believe.
Do stick around and have a great evening.
Rob Portman would be a great choice. That will give him ample opportunity to explain why the Bush economic plan failed so miserably, and why Mitt’s plan will work so much better. Personally I just can’t wait to hear his explanation, I’m sure team Obama will be curious as well.

Thanks anon paranoid and ct for the nice welcome. I simply thought there would be more talk here about what was posted. Also I listened to interesting interview with Bob Huston on last posted but all the comments about everything but. Just seemed a bit rude
Damn funny that millions of Americans can do their own taxes and get them filed on time, but Mitt the mutt has to file for an extension. I guess he was just too busy campaigning for tax cuts to get around to it.

The TM’ers don’t always follow what our gracious host posts and that is what makes this site so good. They do discuss the topic, but Craig knows that what makes him so loved is the fact that he can see better than most hosts the hearts of his TM family.
Stick around and don’t mind me. I’m the crazy paranoid of the family. The black sheep so to speak who rarely stays around, but drops in to throw my two cents in while I still read everyone comment daily.
In time you will see how great the guests are who speak on many topics daily.
Have a great evening.

Well then I guess I understand, but must admit it is difficult to follow what you are all talking about and who is talking to whom. Not easy for outsiders, with a new topic every few minutes.

Just fasten your seat belt and think stream of consciousness.
It’s never dull and you really want to be here.
Welcome.
AP,
Forgive me, I forgot that republicans are above the law.
Still and all, Jack aint no republican he shoulda’ known better.
Thank you Craig, I will try. Busy grad student here so not much time to interact. Thank you again for taking so much time on CSPAN Sunday, I cannot believe how you treated even the nut callers with such respect (Hope you didn’t think I one).
Dogd..you can try getting serious but..for me..I’m still waiting to see what Jace’s wine is going to do today.

Toss an idea into the pool and see who bites or comments. I liken it to a great cocktail party. You just wander from group to group, listening in, dropping a few sentences, suggesting a book, article, or piece of music you find fascinating. Once you get acquainted with the party goers, you’ll be fine.
As a grad student, you will find a professor or two wandering through though at the moment eProf is off dry camping in the Arizona desert in honor of his birthday.
Craig
I have an idea for the blog. Not everyone has filled out their profiles on their Avatars. It might me nice to have a pull down list that new folks could read to introduce themselves to some of the regulars in one place. Just one sentence to give them an idea of who’s who.
Who we really are Jamie? Or who we think we are?
Dog,
We are a bunch of people interested in the world around us. So when we find something interesting(like Jamie did with the link above) we share it. It is often good to get someone else’s perspective. Some time we just have a rant we have to get off our chest or just pick at an idea until it falls apart. So if you have an idea or something that irritates you or makes you laugh try sharing it. Just remember to give folks the benefit of the doubt and make your first assumption that they are being friendly because text has no soul and always sounds mean.
Oh and have a thick skin, sometimes my most profound ideas seem to be someone else’s belly laugh.
Ok enough of that.
What do you think of the Yankees.

A personal fantasy is as equally acceptable as reality. Who knows which is which anyway?
There’s a whole philosophy in that sentence somewhere!.
don’t follow you Jamie, how to do that. More profiles filled out would be nice tho
dogd, no, you were my favorite caller yesterday — ha, and my mom’s too
Jamie,
I hope you are watching TRMS tonight, Chris Hays is hosting. Opening segment was spot on. One of the best segments I have seen in ages.

CT,
One little goof and I never hear the end of it.
I opened another bottle, and enjoyed the sunset, I think.
Jace
Yes I’m watching. Love Chris on weekends and like when he subs for Rachel.
Craig -- You could do a blog post and then link to it on the right the way you do to things such as the 5th anniversary. Let everyone submit a sentence or you could describe us. At least it would be in one place and could be edited and updated as necessary.
I think the shine on Ann Romney’s ‘birthday present’ is wearing off pretty quickly. Perhaps she should re-gift it.
Jace, Chris Hayes ever mention his wife works for Obama? Like the rest of MSNBC and their Wall Street pals.
Dogd,
I’m not sure if he makes mention of it or not.
That said it doesn’t seem to negatively effect the quality of his work.
Jace, I don’t disagree but as someone who is totally disappointed by Obama’s failure to stand up to the right I have no patience for libs like Chris who defend him, especially in his case, needing to make sure his wife keeps here job after the election. As far as I’m concerned we’re better off letting Romney win and finding a real progressive to run against him for reelection, who won’t abandon us.
Dogd,
You are really going to like Tony, hang around.
As for letting Romney win until we can find a real progressive. As appealing as that might sound, I’ve never been one to cut off my arm just to get rid of the blister on my hand.
dogd
If the Supremes were a younger bunch on the left, I might be willing to go with that idea. As it stands, I’m not electing a President, I’m electing a court, a house, and a senate. They just need a President to match. I’ll worry about a Progressive in office once I have 60 at least moderate to left Democrats in the Senate and six left leaning votes on the Supremes.
anyone who isn’t watching “Up With Chris” on Saturday and Sunday is missing one of the best panel discussion shows ever. They even have Conservatives. Of course finding ones that do anything other than spout talking points and getting them to come on MSNBC is difficult, but they do try. At least there is something called information, viewpoints, and thoughtful interaction going on. Melissa Harris Perry follows as well with her own show and that is a very very good thing.
To top it off for twitter users, you can talk about it while it is going on with the hash tags #uppers (@UpWithChris) and #nerdland (@MHarrisPerry).
Jamie, not the Supremes scarecrow again — that’s what corporate Dems always throw at us to bully us in line on election day. Elect all of their puppets you want to House and Senate, might as well be Republicans. We had that three years ago. What did we get? Health “reform” rubber stamped by insurance industry and drug companies. Alright, I guess I am settling in here. No offense I hope. Just had to vent. Must get some work done before sleep. Thank you for the welcomes.
The Republican administrations of the last several years scared me enough. I’m not willing to turn the country over to them again in hopes they won’t ruin it even further while killing hundreds of thousands more people, wasting more treasure, and impoverishing our citizens even more than they have.
Jamie, they might as well run Obama’s saturday radio address on a loop instead of Up Chris, same thing
Yep, lol
I believe you fit right in.
Jack
Jamie
It is not the Republicans under Bush that caused all the harm. it was the weak kneed Democrats. They had the same power in the senate to stop Bush as the Republicans have to stop Obama. They have just been too frightened to use it. You way got us where we are now. We need a change and we need it at all levels.
Jack
Dogd,
You are a natural trail hand.
Jack
If there was a progressive hero out there saying all the right things, generating a movement, making noise to believe in, then you might have a point. In the absence of such an animal, with our current financial situation, global economic meltdown, encroaching poverty of millions worldwide, I’ll settle for some sort of incrementalism is something resembling the right direction.
Even the Socialists and Communists who actually tried to practice the ideal rather than the actuality are keeping vewy vewy quiet.
dogd
The charm of “Up With Chris” isn’t Chris, though he keeps the train on the tracks very well. It is the panelists, their web pages, their books, their ideas, and the sheer joy of listening to people with brains in gear having a conversation. Sort of like here.
“As far as I’m concerned we’re better off letting Romney win and finding a real progressive to run against him for reelection, who won’t abandon us.”
Dogd,
Great point. The last time progressives soured on a candidate they voted for Ralph Nader instead of Al Gore.
That worked out so well.
Sorry, not going down that road again, it was rough to say the least.
Not sure how anyone can consider voting Republican

“gotta go finish my taxes”
Craig,
Haven’t you heard? Extensions are all the rage just now.
Try to look at the bright side. We have Hitler’s Chief Nazi Judge John Roberts with four more Nazi judges on the SCOTUS.
We have one Judge Jay Bybee on the Ninth Circuit. We have Lawyer John Yoo teaching Constitutional Law at Berkely and David Addington who gave legal authority for War Crimes as well as all the rest from the BushCheney War Crimes Family and many others who participated in instituting, authorizing and carrying out the War Crimes ordered from the White House including Condi Liar Rice.
These people and many other Republicans and even some Democrats guilty of TREASON and War Crimes who one day will all be held accountable either here in America or in the Hague.
After all we did not only prosecute, imprison or execute Hitler’s Legislatures, Lawyers and Judges at Nuremberg, but one day ours will also face the Justice they deserve.
Have a great evening.
For once I agree with George Will: Should we legalize drugs
AP,
When I dream beautiful dreams, I dream of Cheney doing a perp walk. Ahhh…
Greetings, Dogd. Where are you going to school and what are you studying?
The people here are from all different fields and run the numbers when it comes to ages. The common denominators are curiosity, kindness, a desire for responsive government, and acceptance of ‘regulars’ as being treasured trail mates.
Jamie, I just think anything MSNBC does, no matter how faux smart their shows at dawn on weekends might be, is designed to dupe libs into believing corporate Dems are on their side, at least until Election Day. I stick with Newshour and CSPAN for information, all the “people with brains” one needs, and without the phony slogans like “Lean Forward,” whatever that means.
Jace, I am tired of Democratic Party bullying: Vote for us because you have no choice. What exactly did Obama do that’s different from McCain, or Romney? They all work for Wall Street and the defense industry, and the insurance companies, and the drug makers, and the list goes on. So what diff it really makes if Obama loses?
jace…
Cheney can not leave the country for fear of being arrested and tried for his own words bragging about his authorizing torture.
In fact I believe that none of them can except maybe Condi Liar because there is so much proof to put them in jail for life and possibly even execute them.
That’s one dream I pray comes true for not only you and me, but all Americans as well.
Have a great evening.
Flatus, Virginia Tech accounting, last year in Blacksburg and hope to get a job in a DC firm next year. Yes, I know my anti-Wall Street rants might seem to contradict these aims but believe it or not there are progressive accounting firms and advocacy groups out there. My ultimate goal is to work for stockholder rights, corporate democracy and employee ownership.
Dogd,
It makes no difference what so ever, unless of course you believe that Bush and Gore were six of one and half a dozen of the other. Turned out it was not quite that clear cut. Sort of like Obama and Romney I think.
In my perfect world, Bernie Sanders would be my candidate. Want to take bets on his chances of winning? It would be a sucker bet.
Jace, if we keep settling for nothing what difference? Alright, you have all got me going and now I really have to go. Thanks for the interaction.
Dogd,
Don’t you be a stranger. You’ve much to add.
Can’t resist a parting thought after reading above. Why DogD right to be so angry at corp Dems? Without their House and Senate votes, and Bill Clinton’s signature in 1999, the financial industry would not have been unleashed to wreck our economy with the repeal of Glass-Steagall. And Obama has given nothing but lip service to restoring it.
Still, must agree with Jace, Jamie et al, if Romney allowed to let more dogs out it all just gets worse. Progressives are nearly as screwed as tea partiers in this election. Nose bleeds for everyone.
Another good read, this thread. Thanks to all for chipping in.
You guessed it, my taxes are done and behind me now, feeling lefty again.
Awesome, Mr. Craig. One of my professors compares how Glass-Steagall pave the way to disaster with Missouri Compromise leading to the Civil War. You’re the best, thanks for honesty

American citizens can now be strip searched for running a stop sign ,
We are continuing our transition into a totalitarian police state and all the while all the media focusing on sophomoric issues about who said what about who,
There are actual real issues that need to be debated and discussed
The national debt , over seas militarism , the drug war , violation of civil liberties ,
But all we hear 24/7 is some stupid made up issues and who can gain some political advantage
I saw the co-presidential candidates Ann and Mitt Romney and I see his current response to everything is “it should be left up to the states..”
As a Californian, I would like to exclude certain people from entering our state — that includes Lynn and Dick Cheney for having low moral character -- he shot someone in the face and barely apologized and she is pornographer.
I want someone to ask Rick Santorum if he and his wife only have sex for procreation and will they stop having sex when his wife can no longer have children.
The U.S. Constitution delegates specific enumerated powers to the national government (also known as delegated powers), while reserving other powers to the states (reserved powers). Article VI of the Constitution declares the laws of the national government deriving from the Constitution to be “the supreme law of the land” which the states must obey. The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution, a part of The Bill of Rights passed in 1791, attempts to limit national prerogatives over the states by declaring: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited to it by the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Craig..I need to borrow the joint for a moment to send a little message. As popular as you are I know there are important people monitoring.
Dear Ann..
Your Mittens won’t say whether he would have supported that Lilly Ledbetter Law. If you want him to look really good to the ladies..I’d have a little talk with him.
I know you had a tough job of raising those five boys but you really didn’t have to worry about needing one of those nasty paychecks to get by. Many of us did. (don’t want to sound PIC..which mean either politically incorrect or pants in crack..depending on the circumstances.)
Now..if you want him to chip away at that 19 point spread..I’d give him some advise on how he might do that.
Sincerely yours
Carol
Republicans love ignorance in schools
The guy from Bulgaria was the caller that stuck with me. No matter what Obama has said in the past, I haven’t seen much evidence in his actions to support it.
If any of you tuned in early, there was an article about the population growth in sub-Saharan Africa & that stuck with me.
Sounds like the planet Gideon.
“…inhabit a room in a typical apartment block known as a “Face Me, Face You” because whole families squeeze into 7-by-11-foot rooms along a narrow corridor.”
(And there is a chart for c’bob.)
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/04/15/science/africas-population-boom.html
mqw -- And to that issue I say, “Go, Ron Paul.” Sometimes I think that is why he has been so marginalized. Not because of idealistic/crackpot ideas, but because those in power are glad to be chipping away at our freedom & he has been the one talking about it.
dogd… welcome… good to see a newbie on this blog.
Loved your post about your major and what you want to do with it.
Blue… the Reps marginalize Ron Paul… the Dems marginalize Ralph Nader… and both sides marginalize Buddy Roemer. Neither side actually wants a truth teller. But both want the same thing…. POWER.
“Recent delegate counts show that Ron Paul is picking up a part of the anti-Romney protest vote, and he remains popular among young voters…”
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/Decoder-Wire/2012/0416/Why-Ron-Paul-is-still-in-the-presidential-race
So, does Obama keep the youth vote? Does Ron Paul push young people toward Romney? Do young people even bother to show up at the polls if they are disillusioned by Obama’s empty, if pretty, words & disconnect with Romney?
ps -- Ann Romney is 63. Not only did she have the luxery of staying homeS, but could it have been expected of her back then?
rr -- You are correct. They want power over the minutia of our lives & the media should be covering the erosion of our civil liberties more, but they do not; the powerful control the MSM. Fortunately, we are expanding beyond the MSM & that has them worried.
I learned an important life lesson from Ralph: Always buy the same kind/color of socks. That way, when one finally gives out, all of the others match & you don’t end up with odds & ends in the sock drawer.
Just to ricochet off of Blue. The one thing none of the politicians or economists barely mention even in passing is that there are not now and will not be in the future enough jobs for everyone. All of the promises of “green jobs” “high tech jobs” even “mcJobs jobs” do not add up to the numbers needed to actually produce the goods and services required for society to run efficiently. The British have a nice word for it: Redundant. What do we do with the redundant and how do we decrease their numbers (short of mass murder, a good plague, or starvation)?
Think of all those Science Fiction tales of limited population being serviced by machines while they relaxed into great thoughts and lovely productions of art and music. Now pull out your cell phone and ask how many women with a less than high school education used to say “operator” who now need welfare just to feed their families regular meals.

Amazing thread! Oh man, makes me sorry i opted to go to bed early last night…
Dogd,
WELCOME..I am simply in AWE of you!
I agree with you as well regarding MSNBC being a mouth piece for the Obama Administration but i do like Chris Hayes and Rachael..They don’t hide their agenda but i do learn lots from watching them..
I’m also right there with you regarding President Obama the only difference being i sure has hell can’t tolerate the thoughts of a Romney Presidency..At this time though i won’t be voting for President Obama though as Florida does have a write in line…
Stephanie coming up on Current. MSNBC didn’t get her. Current does. Fun listening.
Oh and Dogd -- I like C-SPAN history programs and interview shows. Can’t take the call ins for too long. I don’t mind conservative voices those are great conversation and often a source of inspiration for solutions. OTOH, ignorance and total separation from facts are bad for the blood pressure and that seems to be the majority of GOP voters or at least FOX and Limbaugh aficionados.
Reminder: This week is the Days of Remembrance and tomorrow is Yom Hashoah. This year’s theme is “Choosing to Act: Stories of Rescue”. As you all know we have our own story on the trail of rescuers with the 94th Infantry. You can read my blog for Yom Hashoah and the 94th blogged linked for the stories of the 94th.
Reminder to the staff of Senator Kerry: Way past time for that Act of Congress.

mqw…
Just read your link and I agree with what Naomi Wolf says 100%.
I keep saying the Republican Party is now the Republican Fascist Nazi Party but no one has the nerve to call them what they are.
I remember once a hearing in the Senate where a man in the gallery called a Senator a Fascist and accused the Senate of bringing Fascism to our shores.
As he was escorted out one striking thing occurred. What was it? It was Senator Arlen Specter-R telling the Senator who was called a Fascist that he was not a Fascist.
Fascism has indeed come to American and it is wrapped in the Flag and carrying a Cross.
So while all of you think I’m nuts because of what I think and say I say to you I’d rather be nuts than right. However I know I’m right and when the American people finally wake up it will be too late. Just like it was to late for the Gypsies, Blacks and Jews in Germany.
I hope everyone is prepared for that day since at the rate its happening it won’t be long before its here.
Have a great day.
Oh by the way. I sincerely hope that every one of Justice John Roberts children are arrested by a very liberal cop and are denigrated by being stripped searched and have their body cavities inspected for contraband as well.
Lets see how the Fascist Nazi Judges like their kids being probed for any offense, even jaywalking.
Have a great day.

Here’s a little salt to rub into the wound, jax --
“People from the White House knew about it, did nothing, kept it quiet until just a few days ago when the statement was released by the president condemning the act,” Mica said in a CNN interview…

Fortunately AP..many correctional officers don’t really want to strip search or look in those dark holes if they don’t absolutely have to. They have even called me when they suspect contraband in an orifice and I opted out. It’s a security issue.. not a medical issue.. and I only do that if a medical condition requires it.
One of the last times I did have to look into a lower posterior orifice..for medical reasons..the inmate released a gust of wind that parted my hair. Now..I make sure I have on a face shield.
This morning I signed away my parents property. It feels good knowing it’s going to 2 people who absolutely love the place.
But holy moly… it took an hour for all the signing to be through. We bought and sold a house over 33 yrs ago. And I think we signed 3 times on 2 pieces of paper. Now… it’s sign this and sign that and here’s more and more for you to sign. The buyers had twice as much as I had. I got writer’s cramp just watching them.
Now they can enjoy a new house… and I no longer have to caretake a property that isn’t mine.
While the nation has been entirely focused on the extent if ms romney’s domestic duties , which I’m sure is very important for the future of the nation
CISPA is gaining support in congress
`(1) IN GENERAL- The Director of National Intelligence shall establish procedures to allow elements of the intelligence community to share cyber threat intelligence with private-sector entities and to encourage the sharing of such intelligence.
That’s just the first line in the bill
What do you reckon that means ?
Ct , you missed the whole point ,
The police can now lawfully strip search anyone for any offense no matter how minor ,
That can be used as a form of intimidation
How about if the police started rounding up OWS
people and stripped searched the young women of the movement
Would that be fine with everybody ?
MQW,
This is just a recruitment tool for the cops.
Wanna see Miss X in the buff ? Wanna probe her …uh …innards ?
Just arrest her for jaywalking, and then it’s approved by sam the sham, fat tony, longdong clarence, bobby the anglo-saxon, and the other kennedy.
Can’t arrest her, cuz you ain’t a cop ?
Here’s an application form, son.
Watch out!
She may be carrying plastique in her tampon.
Xrep , a bit crude , but correct
Hiya,Dogd,
Ever since MaxTrue fled, I’ve been waiting for the puguglicans to send over another agent provocateur.
The problem with willard is not that he’s a smug preppie without a clue as to how the other 99.99% live, it’s that he made millions by firing American workers and getting maoists to get the work done with slave labor. For his success in impoverishing Americans and helping the commies, he wants a reward : a lower tax rate than stockers make at walmart.
MQW,
No one ever accused me of being colorless.
Jaxtrader,
I’m glad you decided to pay up and keep your privileges.
I always hated having to go to the Court House to bail out republican tax evaders.
They always looked so good behind bars.
at least somebody heard what i heard:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2012/04/late-night-jon-stewart-mitt-romney-stay-at-home-moms.html
also from that article, mitt on the dignity of work v childcare
http://freethoughtblogs.com/dispatches/2012/04/16/pa-judges-plead-guilty-to-selling-child-prisoners/
Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan of the Court of Common Pleas in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, plead guilty in open court that they sentenced children to juvenile detention because they were paid off to do it by the PA Childcare and a sister company, Western PA Childcare corporation that ran the private facilities.
I’m in the mood for an all trailmixer radio chat this wknd. Who wants to play? Just need 2 or 3, and topic ideas so i can grab some clips. Record sometime friday aft
Me me I’d like to play
What about sex and politics
how men and women view politics, voting etc
Why are men Republicans and women not?
patd
The original purpose of “welfare” or the “dole” was so that widows a those deserted by drunkards etc. would be able to raise their children as if a man supported them. Any woman found to be “entertaining” a male of the species could be thrown off of welfare no matter how the children were impoverished. It is still the idea of the “deserving” and “undeserving” poor.
Republicans, or at least their policies, still view women as chattel to be ordered about, controlled, and diminished except as an extension of some man in a day and age when a lot of women (or for that matter younger generation men) prefer the idea of “friends with benefits” unless they reach a mutual decision to raise children together which requires making “choices”.
“but I’m probably not going to lay out just exactly which ones are going to go,” Romney said.”
just like Nixon another secret plan.
The Romneys like so many entitled rich people think they are the only ones entitled to a choice….money buys choice. If you are poor you have no rights.
A lot of generalizations there miss Jamie ,
Let me try one
FDR , JFK , WJC , all screwed around on their wives,
In fact FDR’s first full-time mistress died so he got him another ,
So now what do the democrats think of women ?
MQW..I do get it! It’s a crappy law. Hate it. Not fair. Totally ridiculous.
I was just saying that from what I’ve seen..I don’t think that many cops will do it when it’s not warranted. The only tiny little bright side I can find.
Harding hid his mistress in the coat closet.
I’m pretty sure that his wife poisoned him.
MQW,
It means that Dem Presidents are hetero.
And mqw..if one of the Supremes..the bad ones.. do come to my joint..and need a strip and cavity search…I’ll make an exception to my rule. Just for you. OK.
I may write like an imbecile but I’m not one. Really.
Enough cops will do it to make it a really bad ruling. According to the SCOTUS swine, the 4th Amendment lets police xray your home without probable cause, strip you naked for suspicion of committing a petty misdemeanor, rape you with diagnostic instruments, and drain your blood.
It is time to arrest these dirty bastards and give them what they approve of.
mqw
Missed the point. It wasn’t about what Dems think of women but that Reps seemed to fear them. They must be controlled at all costs, you never know what one of them might do if the boss isn’t keeping a tight rein.
Sure all men can be saints or devils and certainly tomcatting around isn’t exclusive to one party or the other. It’s just that Dems seemed to have way more fun doing it and as a whole (judging by policies) actually like and trust women more.

HERE’S a window into a tragedy within the American military: For every soldier killed on the battlefield this year, about 25 veterans are dying by their own hands.
An American soldier dies every day and a half, on average, in Iraq or Afghanistan. Veterans kill themselves at a rate of one every 80 minutes. More than 6,500 veteran suicides are logged every year — more than the total number of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq combined since those wars began.

KGC would luv to chat w/ you on radio. Great topic idea. Let’s dig into gender politics. What’s a good time friday for you to record? Anyone else?
I could write a book on the unfair things I see that involve law enforcement. I too often feel like crying. I try to keep my sense of humor only to keep from being seriously depressed.
Craig
If you need me to fill out I will, but I would prefer to sit this one out and just listen while some of the others take a swing at the topic which is a great idea.
Jamie dont sit out. More the merrier.
Just watching Grover Norquist and Austin Goolsby. One has to ask if Norquist is a compulsive liar or just a political shill with absolutely no moral center of any kind.
Nikki Haley ,R , governor south Carolina
Susana Martinez, r , governor new Mexico
Mary Fallin , R , governor Oklahoma
Dang Jamie, I guess they didn’t get you’re
memo that republicans like their women barefoot , pregnant , and in the kitchen ,
How did they get elected , democrats voted for them ?
Nikki Haley faced down the Obama administration and the NLRB , over the Boeing plant in south Carolina ,
Sent their asses packing back to DC
Now how’s that for a strong smart lady ?
Craig,
Would love to play, but would prefer to hear some new voices. If no one else takes you up on it count me in.
“Rocker Ted Nugent has reportedly earned himself the scrutiny of the Secret Service after saying over the weekend that he would be “dead or in jail by this time next year” if President Barack Obama is re-elected.”
Hey righties, where’s the outrage?
Oh Nugent is a guy, I get it.
Well Nikki Haley is a Tea Party twit from a Southern State. Mary Fallin another God besotted (at least for political purposes) Baptist University graduate. I’ll give you Martinez. She seems sane but Anti-choice and opposed to same sex marriage. Her border policies won’t play well with Hispanics but will be off set by her religious ones.
Of course, none of this offsets the almost 400 laws introduced by Republican politicians that seek to instruct women on who and what they can do with their bodies and how their doctors are supposed to practice medicine.
I’m sure Hannity will be demanding an apology from Nugent.
When pigs fly.
“South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s (R) campaign will repay the state thousands of dollars for using a state-funded security detail during fundraising trips, state and campaign officials said Monday.”
I’m sure it was just an honest oversight, what with her being busy taking care of the kids and all.
It’s interesting that the Martinez biography seems to have been scrubbed a bit. She and her husband, Chuck Franco, have been married for 21 years and met while serving in law enforcement together. He has a 23 year old son from a first marriage that lasted only three years who is only referred to in her Wiki as “stepson, Carlo” without any surname. After a couple of decades it hardly matters, but math would seem to indicate the Governor may have a saucy side.
Tea party twit ? From a southern state ,
Lol , guess that’s what Obama thought too ,
Before she made him back down ,and drop the NLRB lawsuit , so I guess that makes him the twit
At your convenience Craig —
name the time
Not too sure that Haley had anything to do with the NLRB suit other than taking bows and waving to the adoring throng. It was settled because Boeing reached an agreement with the union that allowed the suit to be dismissed.
http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20111130/PC04/311309957
Not the first time Nugent has threatened violence against the president --why isn’t he being arrested
Now Spitzer is discussing the “hollowing out of the middle class jobs” -- High skills & income at top, Intense labor low income at the bottom. Every once in a while I suspect the networks go shopping here for topics of interest.
mqw, where in South Carolina are you from?
Yes the jobless recovery…so the only people recovering are people who never had a problem in the first place
Jamie, you’re correct, Nudnikki had zip to do with the suit.
The state was exceedingly generous in making land contiguous to Charleston Int’l Arpt available for the project, as well as tax incentives, etc..
The incentives were so sweet that Boeing reciprocated by making organized labor opposition collapse under the weight of tons of silver.
I don’t know nuts about Nikki, but it would seem that she learned everything she knows about ethics from Scott Walker.
She might want to rethink that.
News Flash: Mitt Romney to host ‘To Tell the Truth’
Most folks got pink slips,Romney just told his people to “start packing”. You just gotta’ love that guy.
Jace join in. nothing wrong with “repeat offenders”

” nothing wrong with “repeat offenders”
Oh my, perhaps the topic should be recidivism.
Let’s see 1 pm is 10 my time that works for me
what’s the number to call in?
I see the media is busy trying to even out the presidential campaign so all the convention coverage and campaign coverage won’t be for naught.
And really the Congressional women are ridiculous — why are they extra offended by the secret service scandal. There is nothing wrong with being a sex worker and there faux extra outrage is pretty silly
Really people get over yourselves --sex should be a part of everyone’s healthy lifestyle even if you have to have it by yourself --thank you Joycelyn Elders
And paying for sex -- personally not so much but hey.
well not Sanctimonious since no procreation is involved
“Yes the jobless recovery…so the only people recovering are people who never had a problem in the first place”
KGC,
What are they recovering from?
10 or 11 my time works, but give me a nudge. I can get distracted on Fridays.
KGC
The problem with the Secret Service is most are married and the potential for blackmail can be a definite security issue. They are supposed to be on duty 24/7 when on assignment and not leaving themselves open to being tempted to do bad things against the government or the person they protect. There have been actual scandals involving giving away secrets as the result of such activities.
So while I agree that normal healthy people tend to like getting it on with other normal healthy people in any number of possible combinations and opportunities, the Secret Service is sort of a monastery except for the designated partner. If you don’t like being a monk/nun, don’t join.
Ok i set up studio time for an hour at 1pm Eastern on Friday. Anyone can call in anytime during the hour and we’ll work everyone in (just be patient, might be a slight wait time, as i have no producer to answer calls, doing it all myself). We’ll be recording this “off air” so that I can edit and then post it live over the weekend.
Call in number (Friday 1-2p ET): 1-347-838-8595
if long distance tolls a problem, i can call you. just send me your number to help@craigcrawford.com
of course i’ll remind everyone again later

I dunno, MQW, you make an interesting point about the ripper Party, with your examples of their female governors. But their female Senator, Oly Snowe seems to feel differently.
‘Course rush limbag doesn’t live in any of those states, otherwise those women might not have been allowed to win the ripper nomination for governor. rush doesn’t like women. He seems more into guys. Just a thought.

I was outraged when I read that a Catholic Bishop in Peoria, Illinois from the Pulpit said that President Obama was following the path of Hitler on the Birth Control Issue. So I left this comment on his website.
——————————————————
You call yourself a man of God and then compare the President of The United States to following Hitler.
You are no man of God.
Perhaps you forget that it is your church who protected and shielded Pedophile Priests who molested little boys and girls for more than twenty years.
Perhaps you forgot that your church stood silently by while Hitler committed the Genocide of Jews and many others because your church believed that Hitler would make your church the Official Church of Germany.
Perhaps you also forget that your Pope once served in Hitlers Military.
No, I’m sure you did not forget all the above. You are no man of God in any sense of the Word of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I am sorry and will pray for your soul as you need all the prayers you can get. I also refuse to turn the other cheek anymore when supposed Men of God Bear False Witness Against Their Neighbor.
May Jesus have mercy upon your soul.

Does Martinez claim to have any Indian ancestors ? Many Latin Americans only admit to having Spanish ancestors. Of course in Spain, everyone is a mestizo. Their ancestors are a hybrid of Tartessans, Basques, Celto-Iberians, Gauls, Tyrians, Carthaginians, romans, Jews, Visigoths & Suevi, Arabs, Berbers, Franks, Romany, and in Napoleon’s day, French. Despite all this admixture, many Latin Americans will claim they are “pure” Spanish.

A tangent to the gender bias topic: The TIME article about people living alone the other week.
It wouldn’t be possible if women weren’t earning/in control of their own money. However, I do think that there is an economic bias against single people, and that the bias stems from the high number of those single-dwellers being women. The last time I checked, most of the world was not comprised of conjoined twins. (Actually, the greedy b’tards would probably only count them as one in order to get a single surcharge.)
I propose that we give only older women the guns..those who know how to make and stick to a budget..and let them take care of the rest of those problems.
I grew up lower middle class but never felt deprived. Mom was most often the breadwinner because daddy jumped from job to job. She did a good job. Mom worked..selling license plates. We always had a cool number on our vehicle..ie 22D222.
My parents did insist that we had some culture. They brought us to band concerts on the grounds of the university..to symphonies..to the theater..mostly because my older sister played the flute in each.
They also insisted we all go to college. Tuition back then was affordable. My first semester’s tuition was 75 bucks. I used the gifts I got for high school graduation to pay it. My mom also brainwashed me that I would be a nurse. I had all kinds of books about famous nurses stored under my bed. Never read any of them but her plan still worked.
You could live pretty well in the lower middle class back then.
Hi ho..hi ho..it’s off to the last day of work..before vacation..I go.

What Romney Seems to Believe and why he is so disliked.
No one is going to be happy about this one. We don’t need “tax reform”. We need revenue reform.
Question, If 93% of the people who lost jobs under Obama were women, why are Republicans so anxious to cut unemployment benefits and food stamps?
Just askin’
Jace, one word. WOW.
OK, I’ve missed most of this converstion but……
Say what??????
Jack
Pogo,
Mitt and the echo chamber throw these numbers out there like they were facts. The rest of us are just forced to work with them the best we can.
Mitt Romney’s claim that women have accounted for 92 percent of the job losses under President Obama.

My bad, it was only 92% Leave it to news busters to get it right.
OK now I get it.
BTW for those who want to run with that number.
This recession has fallen hard on these groups , the young, minorities, men and less educated. The more boxes you can check the worse your pain.
Jack
Jack, roger that.
Jack,
Mitt made a stupid claim and nobody called him out on it.
I really don’t know how many women lost jobs under Obama, what I do know however is that republicans have spent the last two years trying to cut unemployment benefits, food stamps, and health services to the segment of the population that needs them the most.
It may not be a war on women, but it damn sure looks like one.
Have a good one
jace
Jace
Most of those jobs “lost” were government jobs and the result of Republican cutbacks, mostly at the state level.
Jack
The Republicans are very good at measuring things, particularly when it comes to starting and stopping points. Under the republicans, the majority of the jobs lost were men. From January 2004 (when he still had absolutely no effect on policy yet) to now, the majority of the jobs have been women. As I said above, most of those jobs came from government cutbacks on the local and state levels as Republicans cut budgets.
CBob
One of the worthwhile projects the Texas State Prisons undertook was distribution of wildflowers. I surmise the beautiful medians of the roads in that state are because of those efforts (I hope they’re still beautiful--haven’t been there in years and Lady Bird has been gone for a number of years).
