Retiring Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) is making sense, tells reporters that poor handling of the health care law, which he voted for, cost President Obama dearly.

“I’ll be real frank here. I think that the manner in which the health-care reform issue was put in front of the Congress, the way that the issue was dealt with by the White House, cost Obama a lot of credibility as a leader. … If you were going to do something of this magnitude, you have to do it with some clarity, with a clear set of objectives from the White House. …It should have been done with better direction from the White House. … What happened in the end was five different congressional committees voted out their version of health-care reform, and so you had 7,000 pages of contradictory information. Everybody got confused. … From that point forward, Obama’s had a difficult time selling himself as a decisive leader.”

gads, jim, that means each committee had to read approx 1400 pages each! that’s equivalent to 2 harry potters. poor critter babies. and they’ve been so busy accomplishing so much otherwise?

oh i forgot. guess we don’t require candidate literacy tests. that’s only for voters. woo hoo, yee haw and all that jazz.

But unfortunately… I only have 2 choices to cast what is, IMO, a meaningful vote. So mine will go to Obama.

Familiar Divisions Give Obama Narrow Edge

After the liberal strategist Hilary Rosen clumsily mocked Mitt Romney for relying on Ann to tell him what issues women care about when “his wife has actually never worked a day in her life,” Ann smashed that lob back.

Blasting out her first tweet, she said: “I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work.”

Shaken Democrats dived for cover and threw Rosen under the campaign bus. The media, worried about being perceived as favoring President Obama, jumped in on the side of the maligned Ann.

HA HA, Dowdy scores with this piece!

The dog thing … kinda gives hot dog a different connotation, doesn’t it? I agree that eating the family pet may seem distasteful, and I’ve never tried that, but really, the French eat horse meat somewhat routinely from what I hear, and I suspect that horse lovers are appalled; and there is no suggestion that little O intentionally ate dog meat, that he did it with any regularity, or that he took the affirmative steps to do so that Willard took in putting his dog in a crate on top of the car. I do think it is a somewhat silly thing to be focusing on for more than a couple of minutes, and since it was something tied to a religious observance of his father, it strikes me as odd that the party of religious freedom is joining hands with the ASPCA and using that as an attack line.

Haven’t eaten anything with a face in 2 years this month; the day after I had my 24-year old cat to sleep after she had a stroke. Think watching all of the poor birds in the BP disaster (also 2 years ago this week), made sure I’ll be a vegetarian for life.

Never could understand how my farm friends could raise cattle for 4H, name them & then sell them. I went to a cattle branding when I was 17 & sitting on that poor calf while they branded/innoculated/castrated it was awful. I was only a vegetarian about 6 months after that; I caught a cold & my grandmother told me it was from not eating meat.

that linked wapo article went on to say:

Webb also said that if Obama had opted for a smaller measure, he would have stood a chance of winning the support of a significant number of Republicans on Capitol Hill.

I’m curious..is strapping a dog in a carrier OK with the ASPCA? I think it’s cruel but I treat my dog like my kid. And I think that how someone treats their pets is very telling about that person. JMO.

Obama was a kid and living in an environment where eating dogs was acceptable. I doubt he had to watch Rover get the ax. If we had to watch Bessy or Chickie or Lambi Pie get the ax or even think hard about it..more of us would be vegans. Some already are. When I do eat meat..I’m in denial and still I often get a belly ache. Guilt. And I hate to admit it but I was a cattlewoman for a while.

You can even feel guilty about eating a fish. I was fishing in the clear rice canal once. It was planting season and when they ran the wells..pumping water thru the canals..it brought up some nice bass. I’d walk the levies looking for them. I found this whopper. I threw everything in my tackle box at him. Nada. I finally just put a big hook on my line and eased it over to his mouth and yanked up. Got him. This took over an hour. I felt like we had established a relationship. He was almost as smart as I was. I thought hard about whether to eat him. I did.

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy),” the president wrote. “Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. 57. Flatus says:

In Korea during most of the last century human beings were beasts of burden. Few families were able to afford an ox. The oxen that were in family ownership were given the royal treatment as they were the beasts that allowed the family to climb the economic ladder. They were most definitely not kept for slaughter.

Dogs were not pets. They were sources of protein that doubled as watch animals. I witnessed no man-dog bonding or interaction of the type we know in the West.

The dogs were fed whatever scraps they could forage along with the household leftovers. I have seen them eating the dung of household children.

I never saw a dog being walked on a leash in Korea.

In Panama, the largest most desirable Chinese restaurant in downtown Panama City was routinely fined when cat cadavers were found in its refrigerators during sanitation inspections.

There Is No Super Secret Obama Waiting for 2013
    By: Jon Walker

Apparently this delusional belief that some secret Obama, way better or way worse than today, will magically emerge in 2013 isn’t just limited to conservatives who think Obama will take away their guns or socialize the whole economy. It apparently also exists among his supporters who are trying to make up totally absurd reasons for voting for him. For example, last night Lawrence O’Donnell basically claimed you should vote for Obama because he has a super secret plan to decriminalize drugs and end the drug war once he wins re-election. From Mediaite:

  64. pogo says:

Super secret plan? Really? And he expects to get the R House to go along with that? Let’s face it- O is what O is. He’s a compromiser and a capitulator who’s a political moderate, and if the other side won’t go along and move off their positions, he’ll compromise with himself.

  65. pogo says:

Heck, O may lose (I don’t think so, but…) I’m more concerned right now with the Senate. RCP shows it as a toss up with 46 & 46, with 8 up for grabs (5 are currently Dem). If the Senate turns and the pres doesn’t, O will need to either Order cases of veto pens or the senate dems will have to man up and give the Rs what they’ve been given the last couple of years -- 60 votes needed to pass even the most innocuous bills. If the SEnat turns and Willard gets elected, the Senate Dems REALLY better make that 60 vote threshold stick or WE ARE SCREWED.

  66. harborwoman says:

That is really really really irresponsible on the part of O’Donnell to say something like that. Did he get some inside info or is he right out lying? Is O’Donnell trying to get the stoners to vote for Obama?

I have often pondered if Obama.. who we all had hope for a change.. might show up for a second term. All we’ve gotten so far is a change in our hope.

If Obama plans to do something in his second term then he ought to spit it out. If we couldn’t believe what he said he would do this time..how can we believe what he doesn’t have the guts to say he’ll do next time?

  91. purple-in-tampa says:

Senator Webb is right on! When it comes to leadership qualities Obama and the Congressional Democratic Leadership are a total VOID. What was that “leading from behind.”

Some things Senator Webb left out:

    • Encouraged Health Care Issues similar to Republican state plans and pointedly rejected the single-payer option.

    • Obama promised his Health Care law would lower premiums but the fact is the law has caused an increase in premiums.

    • A total Lack of Transparency using behind-the-scenes deals with doctor and hospital groups, insurance industry, and pharmaceutical companies to block any Congressional effort to extract any extra cost savings.

Jamie you are absolutely correct! It would be a gigantic mistake to have a Republican House and Senate. We do need to replace the dismal failure of Congressional Democratic Leadership! We had two years of Democratic Presidency, House and Senate and it produced garbage. What was that “leading from behind.”

  92. jace says:

    Craig,
RE; your 11:31 AM I am in provided you don’t have enough new voices to fill the hour. If you have plenty I will sit out and listen. I’ll call beforehand and check the lineup.

    jace

  93. jace says:

Obama’s failing was was not in health care, though he fumbled that, but rather in the stimulus program. It was too small and focused far too much on tax cuts.
He had no help from Republicans, and enough blow back from blue dog Dems. See thread heading to get as much as was needed.

It is not enough to elect 60 Dems. in the Senate, they would need to be 60 progressive Dems. Not holding my breath. Too many Liarmans and Webbs in the wood work.

That said , I’ll be damned if I will allow a Republican Senate and House to dominate policy without
a democratic president in office to wield the veto pen.
We tried that with President Bush and the results are still in evidence. Mad

  94. xrepublican says:

We’ve had a ripper House of Reps, and look at the results! We came within an ace of shutting down government again. We got a tidal wave of nonsensical and destructive bills that made the Senators, including mconnell, cringe. We got anti-American rhetoric, hyperbole-on-steroids AHCA bs, birther bs, denier bs, Muslim this and that bs, and not a dam’ thing of value.

A ripper HoRs ? No dam’ thanks.

  95. jace says:

    XR,

    Well put.

    Thank you.

  96. xrepublican says:

Failure #1 was the health care coverage fiasco. He refused to lead except to veto single payor.

Failure #2 was the half tax break stimulus -- cuz taxes don’t kick in until AFTER the economic activity, and the problem with a depression is there low economic activity. That and the dribble of the stimulus into areas that didn’t create a lot of middle class jobs. The stimulus wasn’t aimed at independence from hydrocarbons.

Econ failure #3 he didn’t leave Iraq after 10 mos as promised. That failure cost an extra $TRILLION

Econ failure #4 he gave The Mortgage Fraud Industry a free pass, and shall let them continue to swindle.

Econ failure #5 continued babybush’s policy regarding Marijuana.

  97. xrepublican says:

    Zzzz

  98. ct says:

We need to get some new Democratic uncorrupted blood in House and the Senate. Or some uncorrupted Independent blood. Don’t think there’s such a thing as uncorrupted Republican blood. That would be an oxymoron.

  99. Tonyb says:

Y’all can rationalize every which way but loose. It just won’t work for me.

    Carol,
Well said! I agree, it doesn’t work for me either.. I can’t say that i disagree with the Dem partisans but that isn’t me anymore..The DNC and all their primary shenanigans along with all their super delegate BS broke me..Oh and a little bit of not counting the votes from my home state of Michigan and the state of Florida where i live..Still i voted for President Obama as the alternative was worse, ha and here we are again..Vote the same way this time and continue this countries downhill spiral, think i will pass..

  100. jace says:

It is not rationalizing to believe that a President Romney Will appoint an Alito Jr. or a Scalia Jr. to the court.
It is not rationalizing to believe that the social safety net would all but disappear under a President Romney and a Republican Congress.
It is not rationalizing to believe that Planned Parenthood, equal pay for women, and health insurance for children would be among the first things cut, with a Romney/ Republican cabal in charge.
It is not rationalizing that Oil companies and big business and the one percent would get more gravy than they ever got under the Bush crime syndicate.

You can play the third party/ write in card all you want to but the fact remains that Mitt and company would gladly introduce mandatory pauperism as the law of the land.

Vote for a third party or a write in to suite yourself, please don’t take the rest of us down with you. Mad

  101. Hey all, never mind about tomorrow’s radio chat. I need a break. Getting ready for our sendoff in Gloucester for Sean on Sunday April 29 has me thinking it’s time for a vacation. I’ll be back Monday, May 7. Carry on.

  102. jace says:

You see, Mitt Romney and people like him believe that if you just add a little more water to the top, the trickle down will miraculously become a flash flood.

Sadly, it is kind of like the Colorado River, it dries up before it gets to the boarder of the 99%. Cry

  103. jace says:

    Craig,
Go for it. That is far more important. Good on you. Wink

    jace

  104. jace says:

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

    Craig,

My very favorite Psalm, for your dear friend Sean.

  105. Here’s what you will get with a President Romney.

You can read them all here:

    http://lds4u.com/lesson5/templecovenants.htm

    Mormon Covenant #7
The Law of Consecration: You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the Law of Consecration as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants, in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.

Are you ready for a Theocratic Presidency?

    I’m not.

    Goodnight all.

  106. jace says:

    AP,

It is not the theocratic presidency that I fear.

Mitt operates under the illusion that he has done something in his life that entitles him to the presidency.

The entitlement presidency, far more dangerous than the theocratic presidency. Wink

  107. jace says:

Ladies and Gentleman, let’s give a warm welcome to Mitt Romney, the Master of Misdirection! Mad

  108. Jace, thanks so much for the Psalm. I’m heading into a time I’ll need that, friend. Gonna try to get some closure on this thing.

  109. jace says:

    Craig,

Closure does not always come as rapidly or as completely as we might wish. That said, seeking closure can often times be a rewarding and healing process.

I hope that you find both. Indeed, I know that you will.

Go in the light of our creator.

  110. harborwoman says:

    PIT…

There was no way, once the public option was off the table, for Obama to predict what insurance premiums would do. Control of said premiums was, and always has been, in the hands of the insurance companies. One way to make Obama…and his new law…look bad was to raise premiums when there was genuinely no need to do so. The law itself is not responsible for the premium increases; insurance companies are.

  111. harborwoman says:

    Craig…

My thoughts will be with you as you give Lard his sendoff on April 29. I truly wish I could be there. Though I never met him in person, he was always one of my very most favorite folks on the Trail. I miss his voice! How much harder it must be for you say goodbye to your best friend. So…know that you will be traveling with prayers and kind thoughts.

  112. patd says:

purp, i agree with you in regard to the senate “leadership” but nancy p and cohorts did pretty well in the house when in control. as for sen webb, where was he? senators are not sheep. they would not have gotten that far if they were. at times these wolves don sheepy clothing as an excuse.
