and on to new horizons, hypocrites and hippos

A year ago, Gov. Chris Christie emphasized how different his approach to pension and benefit reform was from Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s elimination of collective bargaining rights.

On Tuesday, he will stand shoulder to shoulder with the controversial Walker, who on June 5 will become the first governor in the history of the Badger State to face a recall election.

  15. Flatus says:

Bullying in HS can be brutal. Our grandson looks AA and tries to act in a way acceptable to the AA kids in his neighborhood, but many of those kids have moved into gangs. That’s when his traditional family values kick-in and he isolates himself.

Problem is, he has stepped forward and has interceded when vulnerable kids are being bullied by the gang members. This has resulted in physical attacks and other threats. The police have interceded, but they seem ill-equipped to handle the fallout of gang movement to affluent neighborhoods as inner-city public housing residents are encouraged to move into subsidized housing in those neighborhoods.

I grieve when this young man goes to bed each night with a baseball bat beside his bed.

  16. jace says:

    Flatus,

I think that all of here would agree and grieve with you. Your grandson’s situation sounds terrible and all too familiar.
Your Grandson sounds like a great kid, but why wouldn’t he be? He has great genes. Hope it works out for him and for you.

My wife and I see bullying on a fairly regular basis.
Only a fool would deny that it is a serious problem, that goes well beyond, boys will be boys.

  17. Flatus says:

Jace, he is a great kid despite being a crack baby and having learning disabilities.

He was adopted as an infant. FWIW, I’m white as is Toots’ husband. None of Stinky and my children share any of our genes--they were all adopted as was my grandson.

“Problem is, he has stepped forward and has interceded when vulnerable kids are being bullied by the gang members.” Flatus 04/30/2012 at 10:19 AM

Your grandson should be commended for his actions, unfortunately his actions will attack the wrong kind of attention most likely from the gangs. He needs to rethink his game plan as to how he wants to become involved while accomplishing the same goal and without himself becoming a victim. As they say, you either play or get played, or as I say change the rules to favor your side.

  20. Oregon Democrat says:

The Republicans are getting worse each day…For the House Speaker to refer to the President as a loser is disgraceful…

  21. pogo says:

Boner has let a gang of less than 50 set the legislative agenda of the House for the past 2 years. It will take less than a loss of the house to let him know what a loser actually is -- when he loses his speakership. My guess is if the ‘cants lose 15 seats in the house, Boner will lose his gavel.

  22. pogo says:

Americans don’t want to vote for a loser? ONLY in Boehner’s head would the first black president of the US, Columbia grad, Harvard Law Review, U of Chicago law professor, State senator at age 35, US Senator at age 42, president at age 47 be considered a loser.

  23. xrepublican says:

    Pogo,
It is more likely that the rip ups will lose 50 House seats than 15. America is incredibly angry with these do nothing prevaricators. This is the situation we saw in ’10, when the rippers won 87 seats. It wouldn’t surprise me if they lost 87 seats. We already see rippers announcing their retirements, and pugugly strategist ed rollins has rated the campaign, “a f*cking mess”.

Caveat: a lot can happen in the next six months.

  24. xrepublican says:

I found this and copied it, but now I can’t find the author’s name. Apologies in advance for my bandwidth violation.

“What I feel is not anger, but rather patriotic duty. America is a grand experiment in self-determination, individual liberty, and innovation: an experiment not worth conceding without a fight.”

“On New Year’s Eve, with almost no mainstream media attention given to it, President Barack Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, or NDAA, into law. Since I am not an attorney, I will fall back on the ACLU’s analysis of this disastrous new law: ‘On December 31, 2011, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), codifying indefinite military detention without charge or trial into law for the first time in American history. The NDAA’s dangerous detention provisions would authorize the president — and all future presidents — to order the military to pick up and indefinitely imprison people captured anywhere in the world, far from any battlefield’.”

“Obama’s administration, and all future administrations (including a Romney or Gingrich administration), can now use the military to detain individuals, including political dissidents — even American citizens on U.S. soil — without trial or formal charges. Without court involvement or a jury deciding you are actually guilty. And “detain” is really a euphemism for IMPRISON, of course. You won’t be spending the lunch hour in detention. You’ll be in a semi-secret military black site, without access to your attorney, potentially for life.”

“This is what kings do. This is what bloodthirsty dictators do. This is not what freely elected American presidents are authorized by the Constitution to do.”

“Moving on: Obama also signed into law something which attacks your First Amendment rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of speech. No, this is not an Onion article.”

“You see, the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011, or Trespass Bill, signed into law by Barack Obama on March 9, 2012, “potentially makes peaceable protest anywhere in the U.S. a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.” More specifically, peaceful protest within proximity to those protected by the Secret Service, including presidential candidates and the President, may be a federal felony now. (Source.)”

“Even worse: a former high-ranking NSA official, who spent more than three decades within the spy agency, just yesterday came out in a nationally televised interview and asserted that more than 20 trillion (yes, with a T) of American citizens’ communications have been intercepted — mostly without a warrant or judicial review of any kind.”

“One could say that William Binney, a whistleblowing patriot of the highest order, is now toward the top of the list of people who might experience a ‘slip in the shower’ or ‘unexpected suicide’ within the next few weeks.”

We know that President Obama told a group of conservatives at a dinner at George Will’s house less than two weeks into his first term that he intended to “reform” as in cut Social Security and Medicare as soon as the economy was stabilized.

Has Obama got most of the Democratic Party behind him now? What is up with Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) support of Paul Ryan’s Medicare voucher based reform plan? Obama with the Republicans and Democrats will implement what George W. Bush could not accomplish during his second term. He has done that before. Shipping truck driving jobs to Mexican truck drivers with a NAFTA cross-border trucking agreement when the jobless rate is over 9%, something George W. Bush could not accomplish in 2007.

John Breaux Sees Democrats Embracing Paul Ryan’s Plan To ‘End Medicare’
By Michael McAuliff, April 30, 2012 3:12 PM

WASHINGTON — Democrats who are staking the 2012 election in part on the charge that Republicans will “end Medicare as we know it” likely will join in on that transformation once the election is over, according to high-powered lobbyist John Breaux, a Democrat and former senator from Louisiana.

“You’re going to have to get past Nov. 5 or whenever the election is,” Breaux told reporters after a Friday House hearing on “premium support,” which is at the heart of Republican Rep. Paul Ryan’s Medicare reform plan — that Democrats equate with ending Medicare.

It’s not that Breaux, whose clients at Patton Boggs include health care companies, doesn’t understand the Democratic postion. The day before testifying, Breaux met with Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, who sparked his party’s ire by advocating Ryan’s premium support vision in a white paper.

It is true that real experts are not on the air to counter the drivel, illogic, and lies of chris matthews and charles murray.

Real experts (unless they are expert entertainers or pitchmen) aren’t much fun, and broadcasting is all about creating fun to draw ears and eyeballs to the adverts. Blithering shit factories like Tweety an expert at bringing ears and eyeballs to the ads, and therefore you find his brainless drivel on the boob tube.

murraysist is controversial, and controversy (conflict, actually) brings viewers. That is the only reason murraysist shows up on any non-Fakes News venue. He shows up on Fakes News because he massages racist messages that comfort the perverted lemmings who suck from roger ailes’ breasts.

I cannot stress this enough : commercial broadcast ‘news’ and ‘reportage’ is not news or reportage. It is only the tickle that brings the suckers inside to see the ads.

    jaslf said it best.

The article at the Daily Kos was accurate and these Republicans committed an Act Of Treason by conspiring to destroy the American Economy by preventing the President from enacting his policies to keep our Economic and Financial System from falling off the cliff.

They Aided and Abetted our enemies with Material Support by placing their Party before our Constitution and Country during a time of War. This is clearly an Act Of Treason and there is no way Issa should even be involved in any investigation about this matter.

This is a matter for the DOJ and everyone should be calling them to ask why they are not investigating and prosecuting these Traitors for Treason.

What surprised me more was the fact that very little (actually none)discussion by anyone here about this.

No wonder our Country is collapsing when no one voices their outrage over what the Republicans have done to America.

And yes I’m sure that even some Democrats are probably as guilty as these Republican Fascist Nazi’s and their Party.

    Have a good evening.

What a beautiful ceremony we had on Gloucester Bay. The maudlin part was very brief. Sean not only ordered the sunshine… he made the winds shift to come out of the northwest… it was a land breeze… no Big Lebowski moment. Sean wanted to go to sea, and out to sea he went. The bagpiper was wonderful.

We had a great time back at Dale’s house afterwards. What a beautiful house! It sits high on a hill with a commanding view of Gloucester and the bay.

Craig is just a regular guy and so easy to talk to. And David is a sweetie…. his sister Dale a very gracious hostess. Getting to meet EdVB and seeing OldSeaHag again was special. Getting to meet Sean’s brother, Brian, was a real special treat. Craig told us that to meet Brian was as close to getting to meet Sean as was possible. He was funny like Sean and told wonderful stories about Kaley and Chopper… as he’s now the proud owner of Sean’s Jack Russell terriers.

I’m not talking about Grover though your right about placing Grover’s oath to not ever raise taxes. Do not remember what verse of chapter but Jesus told about serving two masters and the consequences of it.

They actively vowed to undermine any and all policies that the President would put forth to keep America from falling over the Financial Cliff.

This was and is still during a Time Of War and it undermines our Countries Security.

    IT IS TREASON!!!!

Plain and simply put they are TRAITORS and should be treated as such.

And as far as I’m concerned may the backs of their necks feel the sweet kiss of Madame Guillotine as she cleaves their heads from their shoulders.

Where is the DOJ on this? Or are they still the Department of No Justice?

I like Mr. Paranoid’s accusation of treason. However, the US has not been at war officially since WWII, and it is not readily apparent that the rip up licans attempted to aid an enemy.

  56. xrepublican says:

How about Fred Thompson or Tom Tancredo…or Rudy

In terms of hispanic males — George P isn’t old enough yet.

  80. whskyjack says:

I keep hearing about Rubio but I don’t know. After all most of mitts base can’t tell a Cuban from a Mexican and they have very little use for either.
I look for him to pick someone like poppy Bush did. White midwest with strong ties to the religious right.
Maybe if Rubio could lose the Miami Cuban accent and pick up a Texan one……….

    Jack

  81. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Rubio has never held a real job
he’s been a rightwing pol as a career

His ethnicity is all he brings to the table and I do not think a person of Cuban heritage is going to do anything to turn around the deficit Mittens has with the spanish speaking population — that he thinks any spanish speaker would do is indicative of why he is doing so poorly in that community.
I don’t think he would carry Florida either…

  82. whskyjack says:

    Christie Todd Whitman

Ya know if Obama was to replace Biden with Whitman, he would take most of the non crazy Republican votes and could do what he really wants, dump the liberal democrats.

I’m not for sure that Romney believes that but the talking heads sure seem to. They can’t seem to separate out the different groups.

  85. Ignoble exChamp says:

I don’t know about this Rubio character: he seems like the perfect VP candidate, until one gets to the part about him being a Catholic ex-Mormon. Christian radio across hill and dale would go ape-sh_t about that, yelling about 9-headed beasts, devil-tattoos, and such.

Maybe if he talks about how much of a threat gays are to society loudly and often enough, the GOP rank-and-file will warm up to him. That usually works.

  86. Ignoble exChamp says:

^Listens to Christian radio. It’s actually pretty entertaining, until they start to play music.

Enough truth-dropping from me for awhile. Maybe I’ll stop by to say “I told you so” after “Romney” picks his VP (as if he has anything to do with it, tee hee hee).

This is the face I will be making upon my possible return- :^P

(I’ll probably be making that face regardless, to be completely forthcoming)

I predict if Mittens picks Rubio he will be sorry.
Rubio is better spoken than X-1/2 gov palin but doesn’t have any more experience and NO management experience at all

  89. Ignoble exChamp says:

You’re too hung up on a candidate being qualified, KGC. It’s 2012: it’s all about pizzazz!

(Not the gay kind of pizzazz, God forbid. We don’t want any earthquakes or hurricanes.)

  90. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

How about Alberto Gonzales or Mel Martinez

  91. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

It’s all about pizza you say
I thought we decided the pizza pimp was not a good idea

  92. Ignoble exChamp says:

Cain has swagger, not pizzazz. Sheesh.

Yeah, I’d put Gonzoles in as a dark-horse. I don’t know from no “Mel Martinez”, but that “ez” at the end of his name = votes.

  93. Ignoble exChamp says:

…and despite everything I’ve said here tonight, Santorum could have been the pick (God forbid, in earnest this time) if he didn’t get all uppity about what his “demands” were, and the “assurances” he needed. It’s the GOP, Ricky-boy: fall in line of STFU.

Phew, I’ve dropped so much truth up in hyah, my truth-dropping muscles have lactic acid build-up. A pleasant evening, and an entertaining quadrannual culture war to you all. : )

Oh, also, KGC, I would interpret Romney’s statement regarding a candidate who would be ready from day-one (or whatever he said) to mean that “he” won’t make a Palin-level mistake. Along those same lines, the GOP didn’t lose the last election because of Palin, the reason they lost is because McCain didn’t have… say it with me…

Ok, never again will I post here. Oh, wait, one more thing…

  94. xrepublican says:

How about Sheriff arpaio ? He sounds kinda latinish. (:>D)<

  95. xrepublican says:

Commisar arpaio has executive experience. He runs a death camp in the AZ desert and operates a slave labor farm, a slave labor bakery, and other lucrative slave labor operations. bain investments and bain’s former fuehrer ought to consider arpaio for either VP or an investment opportunity. Think how much General Motors could make for willard romney if the cars were made by arpaio’s slaves !

arpaio is an up & comer for the rip up lican Party. Invest in him today.

  96. xrepublican says:

Also, Sheriff arpaio always carries his sidearm. Whether in church, in bed, or in his candlelit pink bubble bath, Sheriff arpaio is always ready for an NRA ad.

  97. xrepublican says:

Obama in Afghanistan to Sign Deal to Continue War Through 2024
President Sneaks Into Country to Sign Document, Bypasses Congress

Months of “not quite public” Obama Administration efforts to negotiate a still-secret pact to ensure that US troops will continue to occupy Afghanistan through at least 2024 came to an end today, with a “not quite public” visit to Afghanistan by President Obama to sign the pact.

The first reports that President Obama had landed in Afghanistan for this A totally unannounced visit were quickly followed by denials from both the White House and the US Embassy in Afghanistan, which condemned the reports as untrue. Later they conceded they were true, and made no attempt to explain why they lied in the first place.

The terms of the deal, which will govern US military operations in the country from the start of 2015 through the end of 2024, have not been made public, and as with President Bush and the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) in Iraq, there was no effort to consult on the long-term pact with Congress.

Interestingly, with the ink now drying on the document and the US officially committed to the occupation of Afghanistan for another decade, officials are continuing to tout 2014 as the “end” of the war. This speaks to how the 2024 date, though openly discussed by the Karzai government in Afghanistan and privately acknowledged as part of the secret pact, has not been publicly presented to the American public. When they will officially spring it on us remains unclear.

The signature comes as the war continues to worsen, and with the release of a new report from the Pentagon which insists that the “strategy is sound” for the conflict. Despite the length of the report, there was little indication of what the strategy is, beyond “stay the course,” and what the goal toward which the strategy is aiming, beyond “staying through 2024.”

Pentagon: Tons of Weapons Stuck in Pakistan
Report Terms Border Closure a ‘Strategic Concern’

Previous attempts to shrug off the closure of the Pakistani border to war materiel seem to be crumbling, as a new Pentagon report warns that Pakistan’s refusal to let NATO use it for supplying its occupation is a “strategic concern.”

The report goes on to say that “thousands of tons” of military equipment, including weapons and vehicles, are “stranded” on the Pakistani side of the border, and that the Afghan military is facing “increasing shortages” because of this.

Pakistan closed the border on November 26, when US warplanes attacked a pair of Pakistani military bases. The border remains closed, and Pakistan’s parliament has conditioned its opening on a pledge from the US to stop attacking targets inside Pakistan, including ending its drone strikes.

The White House has ruled out ending the drone strikes, insisting they will continue no matter what, but did say that it is “considering” an apology for killing 24 Pakistani soldiers in the November attack.
