CNN: Bogus Ad Not Our Fault
A patently false ad attacking President Obama that I recently posted and criticized, which happened to run during CNN programming was not the channel’s doing, CNN executives tell me. Turns out the channel has no control over some of the ads run by local outlets, cable channels or satellite systems. To CNN’s credit they want viewers to know that the channel has nothing to do with this ad. Still, viewers watching their programming saw the ad and must assume CNN is responsible. A bit of viewer education might be in order. Could be a nifty segment for Anderson Cooper’s “Keeping Them Honest.”

This is obviously part of “local cable sales” commercial time, but definitely something CNN should cover plus the local sales people should be confronted with this abomination.
If CNN and, as I pointed to in the last post, MSNBC are paying their ad people so much money should they not be keeping an eye on what is being put on their station? Are Corporations supposed to be only concerned about their image over what they report and what their company does?
OMG! Anyone who believes that ad isn’t going to vote for Obama…. anyone believing that ad isn’t playing with a full deck of cards in their head.
and it sounds as if the GOPP is running scared… ROFLMAO!
ahhhhhhh…. August….

Watching Spitzer … Gott love the hypocrisy watch on Romney and Ryan
This is a heartbreaking story below. While I shouldn’t make assumptions I’m going too anyway.
This sounds just like what a tea party or Republican would do. The reason I say that is because we know how much they like violence, guns and killing as well as how they have been showing their racism and bigotry since President Obama won the Presidency.
I hope they catch the son of a bitches that did this and do the same to them.
“A federal official said that the American flag was staked through the cat’s throat. An iced tea and a cat food tin were also found on the stump.”

Have a great evening.
The Tea Party the same people who stomped on woman’s head at a Kentucky rally
You are 100% correct KGC.
Have a nice evening.
Anon Paranoid, that was a really fucked up story. How could someone be so broken inside that they believe that performing that heinous act is justified? WTF?!?!
People that do to animals like what those sick SOB’s did have the same characteristics that serial killers have.
And that’s what the tea party and Republicans have in common. The embodiment of evil in human form.
Have a great day.
Paul Ryan is even more fun than I thought he would be…
For months CNN has been running “Clean Coal” ads . About a month ago they upped the ante’ to “War on coal”. Today Mitt stood in front coal miners wearing “War on coal” T-shirts.
Today Mitt stood in front coal miners wearing “War on coal” T-shirts.
If they elect him, he won’t give fig when the owners of their mines let the coal dust build-up.
Craig
Run the whole “Clean Coal” lie past CNN. There is no such thing and the GOP wants nothing to do with “Cap and Trade” that would at least try to cut down on the emissions. I know coal miners fear job losses but at least train their children to work above ground on solar and wind component manufacturing.
Those coal miners behind Mitt were only live because Democrats passed mine safety laws to protect them.
Those coal miners behind Mitt, made Mitt look very small .
“Coal, ……. the fuel of the 19th century”.
The coal miners behind Mitt, need to read their own history.
Speaking of CNN , John King is fluffer for the GOP .

Those lucky coal miners and their buddies believe the GOP will make them wealthy with an eight-year-push of the new, miracle, clean coal.
Same story in any tea-bag hovel around the country no matter what the local struggling industry. Pay their dues to the 0.1-pcters and personal wealth is sure to follow.

The dotted line is 2007 the lowest record since 1979, the blue line is right now. If you think it was hot where you were, it was broiling up north . The methane has has begun to boil from the sea bed there. That was all observed in the past. Nothing this summer happened to slow this. As this ocean warms huge deposits methane will begin to out gas from the Earth, back into the atmosphere . The last time this occurred , is called the “The Great Dying” 90% of all life died.
This is all on top of what we do with our 7 Billion Person, CO2 furnace.
The Earth has never seen this before. There is nothing in the rocks like it.
About this summer , we saw our dew points jump, we made 71F at one point. But it did not rain , just drops & lighting. We didn’t suffer the extreme dry air of last year. But we were still 8-10F degrees about average. And that is bad .
Over 30 years ago, when this was all worked out one of the predictions was “wet bulb temperatures”
The prediction :
As the world warms, the atmosphere will carry more water vapor. That means Bejing will get 18 inches in a day, and Manilla will get 30 inches in 2 days. Both events just happened.
But it also means this :
Under these giant heat domes which may sit decades , it won’t be a dry heat . The air will be full of water vapor , and it’ll be 114F.
This will kill people on a vast scale.
I have seen one story about corn that can live through drought
They never dealt with the question of it making seed at 115F degrees.

MSetlur, re yours of 11:45pm, I don’t think cheap journalists are like streetwalkers. The metaphor is makes the trafficked victims of sex slavery like hannity or coulter. That can’t be right.
I think cheap journalists are like johns. Their ‘working’ over the victims helps enrich the pimps/traffickers.
In my metaphor, the gorilla mack is the eqv of a big, nasty, job killing, pension stealing, rat like willard.
willard, however, is one honking collosal pimp.
Xrepub — Agree with your comments but think you overlook MSetlur’s point: Which was to give Craig some support for what was obvious in Craig’s last two posts — the heat he got from CNN for calling them out. And in Craig’s typical gentlemanly fashion he backed down. Even tho their defense is crap. Really, insance ads run during your shows and we’re supposed to give you pass??? Hilarious. Thanks Craig for calling them out on this.
This old gambler I worked for long ago told me the secret of his style of gambling is “you have to take all the scent off the trap”.
The GOP leaders are well aware of this principle as they convince all the TeaPartier types that they are best served by a bunch of wealthy lying weasels who don’t give a rat’s ass about them in any substantial way save to garner their votes.
When faced with this, they whine, “Well, democrats are the same!” Maybe except for stuff like medicare and social security, just to name two things.
GOP: The Big Con.
I can see remember one of the NBC clowns at the start of the 2008 campaign wondering aloud of Dems were going the way of the whigs — the same maroon still there heading up the national news has yet to make a similar comment about the goopers — and they are well on their way to becoming a third rate third party run by enablers of wealthy tax evaders …well I mean avoiders
since it is legal (sic)
The former-ex-half-gov thinks Hillary should replace Biden on the ticket.
Um, I think Hillary should replace Obama on the ticket, but since that won’t happen it’s time to suck it up & vote for O & Joe one, more time.
Another 12 weeks of both sides trying to say as little as possible & responding to the other side by telling us all how outraged they are, outraged.

Not sure what the Dems are serving up, but with Biden on the ticket, maybe it’s a tongue sandwich.
Let’s hope team Obama can get ahead of this cut-Medicare-thing.
They didn’t do a good job of explaining/selling Obamacare to begin with, so my hopes of them shedding light on the GOP lie aren’t great.
Let’s hope Ryan’s ego is big enough that he can’t stomach Romney’s budget v his own. Just let him keep talkin’…
Blue -- Great Idea -- We haven’t done a Trailmix recipe collection in a while. To go with your morning coffee:
Apple Raisin Bread
2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon (plus a smidgen more) light brown sugar
2 Red Delicious apples, peeled, cored and coarsely chopped
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
3/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine dry ingredients together and give them a gentle mix with a spoon before adding them to the wet ingredients, stirring to make sure there are no “dry pockets” left, and add the vanilla last, giving the batter one last good stir.
Spray an 8″x 2 1/2″ loaf pan with a nonstick spray. Pour in batter and bake at 350 for 55 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
Let cool in loaf pan ten minutes then remove to wire cooling rack to cool completely.
I have an easier recipe
six-eight plums, left over corn bread and some brandy
peel and seed the plums --cut them up
put plum chunks and broken up corn bread in a loaf pan
cover with brandy — bake for 45 minutes best served warm
great with morning coffee plain or with ice cream for dessert
for that amount of ingredients not a full size loafpan
but about 3/4 or 1/2 size
On medicare — I think the best thing is to talk about what it was like before medicare — seniors without any medical care or being bankrupted because of treatments
and why as the Green party platform says it should be medicare for all
And I’d like to remind everyone -medicare is a taxable benefit not an entitlement and it is something the receipts paid into and must pay for every month
medicare is NOT free and doesn’t even cover everything
You have to have a supplemental or belong to an HMO to get full coverage
republicans are deeply disgusting human beings who have no regard for anything except money
So Craig took some heat from CNN…. guess that means someone from that network is reading this blog.
Whoever you are CNN person reading this blog… I used to watch your station regularly… yeah, even while Craig was on MSNBC. IMO, you were the place to go for straight up news. But no longer. I find your nightly lineup unwatchable. Too much A. Cooper. And I know that L. King needed to go… but did you have to replace him with someone who’s IQ is lower than a pair of Larry’s suspenders.
On election coverage it’s all gadgets with nothing but lefty vs righty bluster… it’s gotten old and boring. Even the mighty D. Gergen has me snoozin’.
Now even Fareed… your one truly good reporter,IMO… is in trouble. And hopefully one day… someone at your station will wake up and finally realize that Blitzer is trite and pathetic. But I won’t hold my breath on that one.
Sincerely,
someone who now has better things to do with her time than to watch CNN
Sounds like more of Donald Trump’s Bull Manure spreading. From FactCheck.org. I would be excited if Obama did quit but that is not going to happen. Too much EGO!
I am worried about Democratic turnout in November. How to snach defeat from the jaws of victory. Democrats are good at that.

Have to agree about the CNN downhill slide. I used to almost religious in my viewing, but it has become so lightweight with false equivalency that it’s ridiculous. Every once in a while I check in on “The Cycle” -- When compared to MSNBC’s “Up With Chris Hayes”, it is like kindergarten vs. college. I know “Up” leans way left, but CNN could be more balanced without being entertainment fluff.
hey all, there was no “heat” from cnn, they were just eager to get the word out that they had no control over running that ad
working on the commenting editing function now, should be back on shortly
Yesterday was Florida’s Primary Elections. From Florida’s Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections site:
Florida Hillsborough County Active Registered Voters as of 08/15/2012
Democratic: 289,602 Republican: 236,929 Other: 180,403 Total: 706,934
Registered Voters: 704,398
Ballots Cast: 111,510
Voter Turnout: 15.83%
Using the Senate primaries as a gauge of turnout, the Democrats are true to form.
Democratic: 44,234, Republican: 52,439
ok, Craig… I can take back the bit about you getting “heat” in my 8:43.. but the rest of the post stands.
but it has become so lightweight with false equivalency that it’s ridiculous.
IMO, the above statement about CNN from Jamie bears repeating…
it’s like… “we know the Republicans want to take a chain saw to you… but just to be fair, let’s discuss the paper cut the Democrats want”.
no prob renee, just wanted to clear up any misunderstandings. cnn couldn’t have been nicer about the issue.
Edit feature back on and appears to be “nominal” (as the NASA folk say when things are working). As always, let me know if any trouble — help@craigcrawford.com
But, PiT, was the Nelson primary even contested? If there’s no real choice, there’s no real incentive to vote.
Just testing the editing function.
Seems to work.
Nice job, ‘bah.

CNN being nice to you is one thing--but let the world know if a bushel of apples unexpectedly shows up at your front door.

I suspect a disproportionate number of seasonal residents are Dems who didn’t bother voting absentee for one rationalization or another. Too bad they can’t vote straight ticket before they go back north in the spring.
With the PA Republican Judge finding against the ACLU in the Voter ID Law the Democrats just might lose PA to $Rmoney\Ryan in November.
If Democrats don’t get out to vote or if Independents go Republican we may end up with a $Rmoney\Ryan White House.
Now Florida once again is trying to do a voter purge before November. So it appears that they are set too steal another election.
If that happens how soon before the American People wake up and do a French Revolution resurrecting Madame Guillotine and introducing the backs of Republican necks to her sweet kiss as she cleaves their heads from their shoulders?
Have a great day.
Where IS the Justice Department? I was under the impression they were going to pursue action against these voter suppression efforts.
Chelsea Clinton -- Waiting In The Wings
The judge didn’t rule on the Constitutionality of the law only whether it had been legally passed and could go into effect.
The Constitutional aspect is being taken to the State Supreme Court.
Craig, glad to hear you weren’t feeling the “heat” from CNN, but good for you calling out that disgusting ad. Looks here like you really stirred the pot: http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowldc/cnn-money-anti-obama-birth-certificate-ad_b81277
PA case is a state law heard in a state court. If it violates the US Constitution or is counter to voting rights acts and regs (I don’t know, frankly, what US laws would be applicable) it could be challenged by the USDoJ in federal court. Different standards would apply in fed court if it is a constitutional question than apply in PA state court. It’s complicated, but depending on its effect, it might even violate the Civil Rights Act. (Welcome back to the 60s)
The edit function modification sorted out the problem I was having on one computer. Thanks, Craig (Mighty Guru)
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ted-turner-cnn-was-to-be-the-new-york-times-of-tv-news-not-the-daily-news_b126481
the video in that link also shows ted telling piers about being fired from the company he founded, and losing $10 million a day.
ted is the anti-mitt.
Pogo, I think it gets to the heart, the core, the essence of the Civil Rights Act. The ’60s? Yes, if this isn’t resolved in favor of those about to be disenfranchised, I am prepared to take to the streets.
Flatus, so happy to hear the edit function working for ya. That darn thing has given me fits, and probably will again. My pet peeve as a blog host is how few tools I can find to enhance the user experience. The vast majority of offerings are all about giving blog hosts CONTROL of their commenters. Really irritating.
Dang, Jamie, that sounds an awful lot like my apple bread recipe--including no raisins!!!! LOL
This election cycle I am grateful I no longer have satellite TV--just sayin’--

John Sununu and Reince Preibus (is that a real name?) are on the airways calling Obama a thief (ignoring that CONGRESS passed the Affordable Care Act and the SUPREME COURT upheld most of its provisions. The house across the street that was just bought by the new officer, his pregnant wife, and two children was burgled on Monday late morning. Mom and kids walked into the house while the thieves, gang members, were still there.
While she was confused and sizing things up, they made their escape getting away with her jewelry to include her mom’s diamond. They were busy working on her husband’s arms safe when they split. The deputies have made arrests from the fingerprints. The jewelry is of course still missing.
This is the first burglary in our neighborhood. The mom must be scared to death with her husband subject to deployment at anytime--he’s wearing a Special Forces patch from his previous enlisted service, but that doesn’t help her.
This afternoon I took her one of Kumcho’s favorite rings to keep on her dresser until she feels safe in her new home once again.

I think those basic tea breads are pretty much alike, just change the fruits and spices. One of my favorites uses the same method and baking temps for a
Brown Sugar & Banana Loaf
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
4 very ripe bananas, mashed
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

The old Betty Crocker cookbooks had good recipes for the quickbread based delectables. I’ve managed to cut down on the oils by increasing things such as bananas and adding applesauce on an ounce for ounce basis. Often undetectable to my forgiving tastebuds.
I am, I know, late to the party. I am however in a very generous and forgiving mood. So I will simply say, fuck CNN and their lame excuses!
