Following Tuesday’s birther ad on Direct TV during CNN’s “Situation Room,” on Wednesday the same folks from out there where the busses don’t run (Conservative Majority Fund) deliver another doozy on CNN, this time claiming Obama and the UN are conspiring to abolish the Second Amendment.

(4:52 PM ET, Aug. 15, DirecTV, CNN’s “Situation Room”)

As the Associated Press notes about this treaty to curb international gun trafficking by terrorists its critics, like those who made this ad, ignore “a well-enshrined legal principle that says no treaty can override the Constitution or U.S. laws.”

Damn I was one moment too late.

    Well done Harbor woman. Wink

Whoda’ thunk it? My old single shot .410 has now become a weapon of mass destruction. The UN will be knocking at my door any minute. Wink

  5. Looks like Lawrence O’Donnell going to bring up the amnesty tax issue on $Rmoney. He said he thinks there might be a felony in them.

If $Rmoney took amnesty for tax evasion which is a felony than he’s ineligible to run for the Presidency.

    Have a great night.

  6. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Apparently the gooper base is the willfully ignorant

  7. jace says:

Is it just me or is Mittens something of a flawed candidate? Confused

  8. Flatus says:

Before we call a ‘tax holiday’ we need a ruling from house counsel. POGO!

  9. Go L O D… Hit him again on the amnesty tax evasion program. 3 Cheers for Lawrence.

    Have a great evening.

  10. Flatus says:

The same dumb as crap advert has been on MSNBC. Seems as if all these folks are a bunch of camp followers. As if they don’t have control over the use of their logo. What would Rush have to say about that under different circumstances?

  11. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Hey Flatus you are a great guy

  12. xrepublican says:

If willard evaded taxes and then took the amnesty, there is no felony. The amnesty erases any possible felony.

However, if slick willie took the amnesty, then he looks like a crook, which of course is what he’s been for ages.

It’s time for a Dem Pac to put up an ad that claims Obama and little purple Martians are conspiring to take away the 2d Amendment.

  13. xrepublican says:

    And of course,

“Paid for by the Gunz not Butter PAC,

    which approves this message”.

  14. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

I expect to see Mitt and Mini-Mitt mooning America any day now and at the same time announcing that Sarah Palin will be sec’y of state

  15. Flatus, what tv system you see that ad on msnbc? Direct TV? Asking because I am being told only Direct TV running these ads but suspect otherwise.

  16. Flatus says:

Yes, it would have been DirecTV

  17. Flatus says:

But, they have their editorial voice to set the facts straight as was done on CBS news tonight on the Medicare budget bullshit. As CNN isn’t getting any of DirecTV’s ill-gotten gain’s, shouldn’t be any skin off their back.

  18. Flatus: As CNN isn’t getting any of DirecTV’s ill-gotten gain’s, shouldn’t be any skin off their back.

Nope Flatus, like all providers DirecTV pays CNN a “carriage fee.” While not public info, industry estimates are about 50 cents per subscriber per month, and DirecTV has 20 million subscribers, not chump change. In fact, subscription fees from providers account for 50 percent of CNN’s revenues. More here: http://bit.ly/TGg7i1

In other words there is an indirect connection between DirecTV’s revenue from these ads and CNN’s bottom line. And of course it’s understandable how awkward it would be for CNN to complain to a paying customer like DirecTV about the ads DirecTV is runnning during their shows.

  19. Xrep…

While what you say is true it is also true that $Rmoney was a felon before the IRS offered the amnesty program.

To put out his tax returns showing he took amnesty to avoid prosecution for felony tax evasion would end his Presidential bid and show him as another rich crook.

Its also possible that it would also show him as not giving a truthful 10% to his church which would not go over very well with his church I would think.

Now Craig can go there with the amnesty for tax evasion since some people are saying he maybe was a tax cheater.

We all know how people feel about rich people cheating on their taxes while they have to pay theirs or go to jail, which as we all know is only something us little people end up in.

Have a great evening, time for night night.

I think I saw this ad within the last week, as well. I do not really remember because whenever I see a Romney ad or a Conservative superpac ad, I turn the channel to Cartoon Network. I’d rather watch an animated version of the The Looney Tunes rather than a real life one.

I just read that McCain is recommending that Obama drop Biden from the ticket on Political Wire. Now is it just me or is Senator John McCain the very last person that you would want to take vice presidential picking advice from?

  21. harborwoman says:

Rupert Murdoch owns Direct TV. Wonder if there’s any connection there to the airing of these despicable ads? Showing his presidential preferences, perhaps?

  22. Ping Pong says:

Thank you Craig for going after the Truth in advertisement! Looking forward to a true Journalist take on all of the activity.
Think that will ever happen again or are we sadly past those days?

  23. patd says:

how do the various systems (dish, direct tv, comcast et al) compare in political bias? also who are major stockholders and are they one in the same?

  24. pogo says:

Here’s my bias -- Wayne LaPierre is no patriot -- as Exec. VP of the NRA he has guided that org. to prevent any meaningful legislation to curb firearm sales and make it so that almost all of the high profile multiple murders that we are supposed to ignore in respect for the families of the victims are done with legally obtained weapons. I would like to know how that is better than the alternative they see coming from what can only be called attempts at gun registration and modest regulation. Are victims safer and less dead if the gun that killed them was purchased legally? Only criminals would have guns? I don’t see the point.

Well, if CNN and MSNBC are unwilling to use their editorial voices in the manner that CBS has, then, IMO, they lose their legitimacy and raisons d’être as news organizations.

  27. RebelliousRenee says:

    Craig…
watching Wolfie Blitzer so I don’t have to… thanks… Smile

Well… aren’t LaPierre, CNN, MSNBC, the media in general, and just about every politician all about the same thing…. money.

Across Iowa over the past three days, Obama talked about wind power and drought relief and middle-class taxes. But what he really seemed excited about was beer. He bought a round of beers at the fair. He told coffee shop patrons about one of the latest features at the White House: a home brewery. He spoke longingly of the beer he planned to quaff on the bus at the end of the day.

The crowds drank it up. They cheered at every mention, chanting: “Four more beers!”

  30. patd says:

We knew President Obama was a foodie geek and First Lady Michelle Obama was a gardening nerd. But we forgot that the White House was brewing its own beer. Why isn’t this being used in campaign ads right now?

President Obama is in the midst of a three-day tour across Iowa. The Des Moines Register reports that, during a stop in Knoxville, he got into a discussion with a man at a coffee shop about beer. Obama just happened to mention there was a sample of the White House’s home brew in the presidential motorcoach. A spokesperson said that the president gave the guy a whole bottle of the beer! Here’s the question: Do you drink it or sell it on ebay?
    [....]
We expect this to be the subject of a major feature in a big food magazine very soon. At least the president can’t piss off any teetotallers with this news -- anyone likely to be annoyed by this is already voting for Mitt Romney.

  33. xrepublican says:

    Mr. Paranoid,

Re yours of 12:17 am : these are technical distinctions. While slick willie may have committed chargable acts, he isn’t actually a felon unless a judge or jury says so. If willie subsequently took advantage of an amnesty, the Justice Dep’t will never bring charges for his act before a judge or jury.

However, it would look reeeeaaally bad for him politically if he cheated on his taxes and got away with it via an amnesty. That would be a career killer.
Btw, info about it could be used to revoke his licenses, and prevent him from working on Wall Street.

  34. Flatus says:

Good comment, Pat, one with substance. I made my own beer until a few years ago. It was marvelous! Like a Guinness on steroids. In brewing it, I would use a grain kit I ordered out of Charlotte then fortify it with whatever grains I wished to add out of the kitchen cupboard along with whatever sweet stuff I thought would add to the process.

I would let it all ferment in the garden tub in the master bath--the bubbling and gurgling was certainly a pleasant sound as we drifted off to sleep.

But the real benefit was the brew’s positive effect on my GI system. I attribute that to the active yeast in the final product. I may try it again as I’ve lost lots of weight in the past year, more than fifty pounds. I’m not emaciated, but those extra pounds were my ‘money in the bank’ so to say. Besides, my stout is better than any stout I’ve ever purchased. Rolls Eyes

  35. patd says:

flatus, do you have a home brew “explosion” story. seems everyone who’s tried their hand at it has.

  36. Ignoble exChamp says:

So being compared to Jimmy Carter wasn’t enough, now Obama wants to be compared to Billy! Hey-O!

  37. Flatus says:

Pat, I don’t, _but_ when I was off to prep school the kids in a neighboring room bought a couple of gallons of fresh, unpasteurized cider which they fortified with raisins. They then screwed the lids down on the glass jugs and hid them in their closet.

A day or two later there were two near simultaneous massive detonations that shook our dwelling, an 18th century barn. Suffice to say the contents of their closet were never the same. And there was the protracted talk with the Head. Finally, it was a school where we had to ‘dress’ for dinner. Their wardrobes were the talk of the dining room. The only thing that could have added to the experience is if Cook had fixed baked ham for dinner.

Seriously, I do things in plastic instead of glass. And, when the alcohol content is where it should be, it’s off to the fridge. I’ll let it warm some before imbibing.

    - Citigroup, Abbott Laboratories, and AT&T are among the 26 companies that paid more to their CEOs in 2011 than they did in U.S. federal taxes, according to a study released on Thursday.

Tax breaks on research and development, past losses, and foreign-held earnings were among those lightening the tax load for many companies on the list, said the Institute for Policy Studies, a left-leaning think tank in Washington, D.C.

  41. pogo says:

My dad used to make homemade wine (from Welch’s grape juice as I recall) -- he’d mix up the juice, add the sugar, put it in a glass jug and put a large, thick balloon over the neck to keep airborne molds, etc. out. I recall the balloon exploding once in the middle of the night (my bedroom was next to the kitchen so I had a ringside seat so to speak). Shock It got my attention.

I used to make home brewed beer (mostly dark amber with lots of both hops and malt) with a dirt biking buddy -- got stainless steel Coca Cola fountain containers from a friend who worked for the local Coke distributor -- could make about 2 gallons in each, and we’d daisy chain them together and put an airlock on the last one. No explosions, but great beer -- usually.

  42. patd says:

another interesting tidbit from the above link is a hint as to who can’t complain about current economy:

Compensation for the 26 CEOs whose pay surpassed their companies’ corporate tax bills averaged $20.4 million, according to the study. That average was up 23 percent over last year.

The average was also significantly higher than pay tracked by separate studies of broader groups. For instance, $10.3 million was the average 2011 direct compensation for 300 large-company CEOs tracked by pay consultants Hay Group

    .
