Folks, please use the link button atop your comment box to post links. Lengthy urls, when pasted raw into your comments, run off the page in some browsers and make the site unreadable for some.
LINK BUTTON INSTRUCTIONS
How to embed a link in your comment:
1) Copy and paste the headline (or write any text you want to link) into your comment
2) Copy the URL of the source your linking
3) Highlight the text your linking in your comment with your cursor using your mouse.
4) Click the link icon in the tool bar above the comment box.
5) Paste the URL in the box that pops up (paste over the http:// in the pop-up). Then click OK.
Also, the link button automatically vets links and prevents embedding any site that is a known spammer, etc., ensuring that any link embedded this way is safe for others to click.
Craig, I’ve been copying the URL into the link tab, but in the case of my last link a few minutes ago, the link wouldn’t work.
After pasting it into the link tab, when I submitted the comment, it wouldn’t connect to the site I was trying to link to. So I had to go back to edit it, and ended up having to paste it raw to the post so the link would actually respond to the place I was linking to.
This is the first time I have had a problem with the link tab though, and I don’t know why it didn’t work for me in that one instance.
This is in response to the Times article that Nemo linked to at the end of the last thread. At the end of the article was listed the quid that we hope to receive for our quo. It appears to be a thoughtful strategy of treating the new Egypt rationally.
The administration is negotiating whether to waive some debt payments altogether or allow “debt swaps,” in which the money that would otherwise pay down the American debt is spent on training and infrastructure projects in Egypt intended to attract private investment and create jobs. Congress has attached conditions to American assistance in Egypt, requiring Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to certify, among other things, that the country continues to abide by its treaty with Israel.
This is what the US would get in return for the $1B in Chloe’s link up above. Sounds like a promising way to start off our relationship with the new reality that is Egypt.
Thanks, Chloe, pls stick around.

nemo (chloe), don’t know if this was your issue but others have run into this: Create some text in your comment to highlight with the link button before pasting in url. It can be the headline of the article your linking, or anything you like. The link button needs hightlighted text in your comment to work. See intructions above. I promise, once you’ve done this a few times it is so much easier than it seems, and the safest way to provide links on our blog.
So I can learn this and quit using tinyurl? Just when I’ve gotten comfortable using it? Sheesh!! (Just kidding)
:
OK, let’s try this…

That’s the RCP Obama-Romney polls page.
Yup, it works. Not pretty, but… gotta run to shuttle kid.
http://news.yahoo.com/michelle-obama-lightning-rod-mom-chief-185534102.html Michelle Obama: from lightning rod to mom-in-chief
Is that right? Or should it have come out with just words?
Pogo, Nemo — sorry not right. don’t worry about it, obviously i haven’t found the right words to explain how to do this. if anyone here who can use the link button can help me better explain this, would be much appreciated
use your mouse, hold down left-click button and drag over the text you want to link. then use link button to past url. this is what i mean by highlighting text for linking.
but this problem is only occuring for those using older browsers so eventually it won’t be such an issue. i just feel bad for those who email me they can’t read the site because these long urls are blowing up the page for them
Michelle Obama: from lightning rod to mom-in-chief
It wasn’t your instructions that were wrong Craig, it was me. I think I get it (now I’ll just have to do it a few times in the future to make sure). Thanks
Jack,
Can I have some of whatever it that you are taking?
The ultra conservative Cato Institute, founded as the Charles Koch Foundation in 1974, was complaining in their Policy Analysis No. 12 Deregulation and Re-Regulation of Transportation on July 8 1982 that “The Reagan administration may be in the process of reversing the deregulation trend” that started under Ford and Carter. If the Reagan administration was looking at Re-Regulation then I would say Carter went way too far.
The Chinese middle class has developed a “lust” for ivory trinkets. It would appear that Pentagon trained and supported, with tax payer monies, African military are killing (poaching) elephants for their ivory destined for Beijing where it is worth $1,000 per pound.
Elephants Dying in Epic Frenzy as Ivory Fuels Wars and Profits
By JEFFREY GETTLEMAN, New York Times, September 3, 2012
WhskyJack and Purple-in-Tampa: Let me throw in my two cents into this disagreement over the transportation system seeing as how…I do not drive, and I have had to fly over the past 10 years several times. This has been a colossal mistake. The airlines take liberties at screwing us over, whenever they get the chance.
The bus system in Los Angeles County is a complete and utter joke. There are several companies that make you have their own cards in order to ride their system. This means you could have a transfer but if you need to go into another companies’ area, you are royally screwed. This is a very common occurrence because the companies have small territories in such a large space, plus they do not offer you a great area that is covered. The Metrolink is so fucking expensive for what they give you.
The bus system in Lubbock, Texas only goes to about a third of the city. Their drivers do not own watches so they get off their breaks late and screw up the schedules.
Meanwhile, if you own a car (or are on the bus systems), you cannot move in the traffic of most cities in this country.
True, things are great in Hawaii where TheBus has a monopoly, but it is not accountable so if you get screwed over by horrible service. You are totally fucked. As someone who has been trapped on part of the island trying to get to the populated part, it is not an enjoyable experience hoping that you will be able to make it back in time to catch another bus to take you back.
But if you complain; you get put on hold until you lose your mind, or get someone, who just does not give a shit.
Purple-in-Tampa: That was an interesting article about the serious problem of Elephant poaching thanks for sharing it. I would not have read it with Gettleman having written it because of his loopy Real Time appearance in May. Pictures were incredibly graphic, I must say.
It does not surprise me that oversight is not being done by the Pentagon or any agency in our government. These people just do not care anymore. “Why should we follow up in what our money is doing? It is not like we are the government accountable to its people.”
GOP pays for Tweeter Hash Tag #Areyoubetteroff -- Gets flooded with “Yes we are” answers … Didn’t anyone ever tell them not to ask a question if you don’t know the answer you will get? Twitter Responses
Craig,
Here is the linking method I use with my MAC
1. Copy the URL you want to link to
2. Type your message and highlight the portion (title etc) that you want folks to click
3. press the link button and a box will open up
4. Hit control (Command) paste, your URL should appear in the box.
5. Post Comment
Reince Preibus is having a bad day as well. He tweeted “WOW. #DNC2012 opens with- “Government is the only thing that we all belong to”. #AreYouBetterOff” and got a slew of responses along the lines of “We The People in order to form a more perfect union”

I excited to see J Castro speak tonight..One thing still holds true for the Democratic party and that’s the tent is big. Minorities/Women are represented and allowed to shine if they shine..
