Worst Campaign Ever?
Its time to start worrying about Mitt Romney. Seriously. The guy may just be running the worst campaign ever. And yes, that includes the McDLT, print ads for organic hemp underwear and France in 39. Not to mention McCain/Palin in 08. Which currently holds the gold standard for lousy campaigns. Sure to be a Hall of Fame inductee in a couple years.
Willard has taken bad to a whole new level. Bad like a dumpster behind a fish market during a garbage strike bad. Bad like a 3 dollar Dark Knight Rises DVD bought off a Times Square cardboard table with Albanian subtitles bad. Bad like Todd Akin at a NARAL benefit bad. Bad doubled down. Beyond breaking bad to the point of broken bad.
And every time the former Governor of Massachusetts opens his mouth, it gets worse. He’s tone deaf, tongue tied, logically challenged and as approachable as a near-sighted porcupine in heat.
So uncomfortable around real people, you can practically hear him whisper “icky, icky, icky,” under his breath while shaking hands at rallies. You know there’s an aide with a bottle of Purell hand sanitizer waiting for him on the bus. Maybe even a 55-gallon drum connected to a shower head.
Got caught on a secret video calling 47% of those real people moochers and malingerers. Shirking entitled victims dependent on the government for food. Food. Mmmm. That’s us. Just can’t get enough of that Government cheese. You know what this country needs? A good 5¢ Government cracker.
The impression is that, 1: he was pandering to his rich donor buddies or, 2: the poster child for the 1% really believes what he said. Either way — awkward! And that massive pounding sound you hear is a herd of stampeding elephants running away from what they fear might be contagious.
One major problem with insulting 47% of the American public is that at least 58% of them worry that you think they’re part of that 47% and you know 112% of America believes that. They do. Bet you $10,000.
The video’s release obscured the Romney campaign’s much ballyhooed new design to sharpen its message. Would have been interesting to see how many truckloads of flint they were going to use to try and put an edge on that much smoke. Honing fog.
His own staffer warned us. The Etch-a-Sketch has been turned upside down. Prepare to be shaken. Problem is, you keep rebooting something as stiff as Mitt and it starts short-circuiting all over the place. Romney 8.0. Better than Romney 7.0. Now with Desperation.
Maybe it’s the extra large silver spoon in his mouth that keeps him from seeing the view from the middle class. Can’t understand why they don’t pull themselves up by the bootstraps like he did when his daddy loaned him his first million.
With the debates still to come, there’s time to turn this race around. But this far in, its like turning the Titanic. After hitting the iceberg. And the helm is underwater. Face it, if Bain Capital were running Mitt’s campaign right now, they’d close it down, fire him and hire some Chinese guy to do it better and cheaper.

Very good post, thanks.
MQW,
This is an excellent post and it bears repeating.
The Optimism Cure
By PAUL KRUGMAN
Watched clips of Mittens/BadLipReading on You Tube yesterday. It was funny, although the things that actually come out of his mouth are no less ridiculous.
Indeed, neither side wants to stop the military charge-and-spend cycle. I hope it gets addressed LOUDLY at the foreign policy debate. (Bravo to mqw & to tony for re-posting.)
Also, please check out http://www.doctoredthemovie.com for a clip of a new movie about the AMA & big pharma trying to crush alternative therapies.
Craig… thanks for the Durst piece…
you know what I miss around here the most… all the humor… it’s as if a sense of humor around here and out there has just died.
I agree with MadMustard… too many cranks…
IPhone 5 Fever? Don’t Count Samsung Out
By JAMES B. STEWART
Good to see Solar stick his head into the tent again. ‘course he ran away. Come back, Solar. Come back. We miss your insights.
MQW -- while in most regards I agree with your ideas, but good luck with that.
So… Romney loses but the GOP holds onto the House and we get 4 more years of them refusing to do anything.
Obama will offer compromise after compromise, proposing things that were, until recently, Republican ideas, which will be triumphantly rejected by the new Tea Party-fueled GOP. Frustrated, Obama will blame “Congress” because he is afraid of appearing to be too “partisan.”
Corporate profits soar as they outsource everything that isn’t nailed down, and the morons who watch Fox News continue to believe that the reason that nothing works anymore is the fault of liberal socialists.
Gee, I think that’s pretty funny.
Thanks for Durst.
MQW Lay-off of Hillary…she is not the problem…foreign aid is not her original idea.
And Mormons are the biggest hypocrites. They have a welfare system for those who are worthy. And according to the EBT standards in my state…if you get food stamps you are not eligible for any food bank, donations from church, etc. It is a secular stimulus for those who do not have any other means to eat. I can tell you the SNAP help I receive IS a stimulus. George Bush sent every tax paying American a check during his socialist reign! More and larger stimulus checks were sent to deserving and undeserving Americans.
Read this about Mormon welfare!
http://www.askgramps.org/how-would-the-mormon-church-participate-in-helping-us-with/
well it’s fall and most of the Charlottes have disappeared leaving only a few hardy holdouts here and there….there was this one who got into a good place at the beginning of her run and she’s still there, but today the landscapers while trimming the bushes severed her support lines and her web collapsed. She looks to be pretty tired but she jumped right back into it and is struggling mightily to restore her access to the food chain. Very sad to have to go thru all that at the end of her string. I hope she gets something back together a bit.
I’m tempted to try and find her a grasshopper.
But that would be like welfare.
Sturge…my backyard socialism experiment is humming along. Stick a few insects in her web.
Rmoney, the Liar, told the press on his plane…He would go door-to-door for votes IF he did not have to fund raise. I immediately thought of Durst and that industrial size of Purell. Who is he kidding? I believe the secret service doesn’t make house calls.
Personally, it is the man, not the campaign. Rmoney is so wrong for the US of AA.
And we will never see his 2008 tax returns…the year he put a lot of his own money into his presidential campaign. This was probably the year he did not pay taxes…Harry Reid is correct, you know!
Carol Costello questioned Professor Larry Sabato until he finally admitted there aren’t enough undecided voters for Mittens to win…they were talking about Ohio a state Costello is very familiar with.
If it weren’t Mittens, would John Huntsman have been a better candidate?
Governor Jan Brewer yuck

So I notice that foreign aid under the current admin is on a downward trajectory following the previous one. The State Department spending in FY 2009 was up (last year of Bush’s budgets), but total assistance was down.
http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2012/tables/12s1297.pdf
Total aid increased from $18B to $44B during the Bush years.
Obama admin requested $60B + $8.7B for 2012, and $43.4B + $8.2 for 2013. Not sure where the $100B figure comes from.
(What happened to my Link button? I liked that button.)
AHA!!! It’s back.
All that foreign aid is spent here in the US on weapons and ammo. It is a socialistic subsidy for Honeywell, Colt, Raytheon, Lockheed, GM, Bechtel, xe, Aerojet, Microsoft, ad nauseum.
If we gave this dough as a direct subsidy without first straining it through a foreigner these welfare queen companies wouldn’t actually have to hire Americans, and we’d get less tax revenue in return.
Good Post… For the most part…. But from a liberal Dem biased blogger… A good choice for a topic!
It is not good when the best candidate is not making the points needed to beat a failed President.
Two Points..
The Campaign is really just cranking up
Mitt is known for making a good turn around
Now how can he beat the Liberal biased Press? Watching your buddy George S on ABC yesterday with such a stacked deck and knowing that George is no longer meeting the standards of a Journalist is just a typical example of the battle that Mitt must overcome. I would love to be on that debate..
Speaking of Debates they are coming soon… What happens there will be very important.
Better to peak first of November then late in September.
It is about the Economy and the fact that we cannot sustain this Obama Nation.
Too many cranks?
We lost the Upper-Case-Only Church Lady, maxtrue, vadaryl, & GORDO, but you still think we have too many cranks ?!?
You lead a sheltered life here on the Trail.
The difference is clear..
Craig Run the Obama Redistribution clip please….
You want a big government control -- higher taxes for everyone? A non sustainable Debt that will crash the economy? Vote for Obama
Actually it’s about 30 billion a year in direct foriegn aid , which includes Israel
About 70 billion for the war in afghanistan
And I don’t know how much to subsidize the national defense of relatively prosperous countries of
Germany , Japan and south Korea
that have standards of living better than our own
So it’s more than 100billion
Memo to Washington dc , the Russian went home twenty years ago , we can withdraw from Germany now
XR, that’s true for a lot of that foreign aid, but a lot of it also goes to shore up struggling financial systems and to relief efforts in the form of economic aid. For 2010 here’s the breakdown.
Total economic and military assistance: $52.7 billion
Total military assistance: $15.0 billion
Total economic assistance: $37.7 billion
of which, USAID assistance: $14.1 billion.
Not knowing much about US foreign aid I was just interested considering mqw’s claim of saving $100B by implementing his suggestions.
Most Americans have made of their mind and many have already voted — Mitten’s doesn’t think his campaign needs to ‘turn around’….he thinks things are going great
Of course he still thinks the Republicans are going to suppress the vote. But they would have to suppress everyone’s vote to win.
It’s pretty amazing to hear someone like Ann Coulter — the queen of lifting things out of context — complain about the media treatment of Romney.
And she complained about the coverage of his paying more then he needed to in federal taxes..completely leaving out that he bragged only a fool would pay too much…and no fool should be elected presiden
mqw, NPP estimates the annual cost for the war in Afghanistan at $123B -- so the savings by shutting that sucker down should exceed $100B on its own. And yes, shutting down bases in Europe would save money, but get ready from the wailing from the right when and if that ever occurs.
Actually, KC, he said that if he paid too much income tax (more than the tax code requires him to pay) it should disqualify him from being elected president. Well, OK, if he says so…
The latest on Romney and emergency health care.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/23/mitt-romney-60-minutes-health-care_n_1908129.html
In Romney world there doesn’t seem to be any bill collectors or bills that destroy families for health care that comes too late.
xrep… hey I live a sheltered live period… and I LOVE it…
BTW, I LOVE your humor.
here’s my Christian Science Monitor cartoon for today…

So everyone is in agreement ,we should take money from the middle class in this country., the welders , truck drivers and yes teachers ,
And piss it away overseas
Ok
Craig did a little research not long ago and came up with 6 billion a month for Afghanistan ,
A Respectful Critique of pong’s 1:13pm post.
“Two Points..
The Campaign is really just cranking up
Mitt is known for making a good turn around” The cranking up began 3 weeks ago.
“Now how can he beat the Liberal biased Press?” I presume you mean the republican media elites, because newspapers are only used for coupons, fishwrap, and puppy toilets these days. However, I see your point: rush, scarborough, brooks, buchanan, cal, george will, and noonan really hate this guy. Maybe willard could get his neocon friends to shoot them?
“Watching your buddy George S on ABC yesterday with such a stacked deck and knowing that George is no longer meeting the standards of a Journalist is just a typical example of the battle that Mitt must overcome. I would love to be on that debate..” Yes, disneynews is sooooo socialistic these days. The standards maintained by the murdoch crime family would be much better for willard. How strange it is that during the previous administration abc was the favorite tv hangout for donald rumsfeld, dick cheney, and john boehner.
“Better to peak first of November then late in September.” True. And, it is usually better to peak in September than in April.
“It is about the Economy and the fact that we cannot sustain this Obama Nation.” Yes, the country is in such bad shape that we should look for President romney to fire all the Federal employees, close down Washington, and reopen in Beijing.
MQW,
Re yours of 1:28 pm: I sit corrected.
It’s been well established that bush was a fool ,a gullible idiot , who’s foriegn policy failed ,
Obama not only takes up where he left off ,
But expands that same failed foriegn policy
So what does that make him
Divisive?
For those that wish to learn the truth about foriegn aid
Rand Paul laid it out in great detail , nobody listened the first time I’ll try again, take your partisan blinders off , and try to learn something you didn’t know
Candidate Obama’s most frequently repeated promises were not to cure the bush foreign policy, although he’s made a little progress there, but to heal the racial division and the political division.
As we have seen, only the succession of generations can heal the racial division.
However, President Obama has made progress in healing the divide between Indies and Dems. Apparently, this success has only made the rippers more divisive. Fortunately, the divisive rippers have been busy dividing themselves from both the majority of the country and from each other. The followers of wrong pol now hate the neocons almost as much as they hate the President. The neocons now hate the wrongpolistas almost as much as they hate Life.

Did everybody know that the Pakistani doctor that tipped off the CIA to the whereabouts of bin laden was jailed and given a life sentence
And then Hillary hands over a billion dollars to the Pakistani government , no strings attached
The guy should have been given the 50 million dollar reward, congressional medal of honor , and declared a national hero
Yet he sits it a Pakistani prison being tortured daily
Nobody says anything

mqw, before you toss in idiots like Paul, tell me how many billions Ms Clinton can stuff into her airplane while carrying passengers, crew, mission cargo, fuel, reserve fuel, etc. Please provide model of aircraft and destination and intermediate stops as well as breakdown of cargo and pax to include weight of cash and its value in dollars. Provide references where appropriate. Thank you

flatus, as our expert flyboy, can you help this poor man out before he tries to board air force one?
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-romney-beverly-hills-fundraiser-20120922,0,2317962.story
My guess is, the Paki jail story was either a ruse to to protect the doctor (who is in London by now for all we know), or there never was a Pakistani doctor and from start to finish the tale was disinformation to protect the Pakistani government.
That reminds me of the Yemeni refugees trying to get warm by starting a fire in the airplane.
Ya, why don’t they have windows inairplanes that open, and chimneys too?

I wont post a lot of links to the Pakistani doctor story
But all you have to do is google it
You’ll find about 20 reliable sources to back up what I said
Patd
That s a bogus story about Ron Paul
Has been debunked many times over
patd… I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. My beloved Patriots lost last night by a point. The officials were horrible (not the reason the Pats lost, though) to both sides. And then I stupidly go and post before I had my coffee…. ain’t apologizing or deleting…. gotta live with it.
and yeah…. what’s this with Diablo mentioning people who either rarely post or don’t anymore and forgetting the likes of you and me… let’s go lick our wounds and have a margarita.
Flatus
That was a figure of speech
Good grief , that’s all you got ? To dispute the truth
I don’t want “figure of speech” to substantiate “the truth.” I want some sort of comparative trend data from from honest brokers that will show where we are heading over comparable periods of time.
Whose “truth” do you want? Billy Graham’s or the Archbishop of Canterbury’s?
http://m.guardiannews.com/world/2012/may/30/pakistani-doctor-bin-laden-terrorism?cat=world&type=article
Bush got us into a real god damned mess in Afghanistan. It’s not our war there. It’s NATO’s war there. They retaliated on our behalf as part of the mutual defense treaty that we have had since WW-II.
Bush, the Fool, should, with our non-US NATO allies, have mounted a massive punitive air and special operations attack against the Taliban and, after 90-days, told the central government,”We’re leaving now. Don’t ever let any of your tribal entities host forces planning or marshaling forces for an attack against any NATO country.”
Instead, Bush left Mr Obama with an incredible mess that is draining the 47-pct of its life’s blood.
Gee, you start hanging out at conspiracy-minded websites, and now all of the sudden you’re the arbiter of truth. Just because you’re surprised that the game is rigged, doesn’t mean everyone else is that naive. You’re arguing with partisans and retirees… hardly taking it to the streets, there, Bud.
I promise I won’t post any “Doobie Brothers”. I could, though, thanks to modern technology.
Our German bases are the least expensive way for us to maintain our NATO obligations, as well as stage for operations in the Middle East.
We are a Pacific nation. It’s insane for us to divest of our treaty relationships and bases in other Pacific nations.
On side note , I read somewhere that only 5 percent of American money is physical money ,
The rest is just debits and credits , zeros and ones on computers
Obama doubled down on Afghanistan
He is genius
Explain exactly what you mean by Obama doubled down on Afghanistan.
The military bases in germany are relics of ww2 and the cold war
Long ceased to be of any usefull purpose
Unless we are expecting Russian tanks to roll across Poland headed for Germany any minute now
mqw
You really must let us know when you take up world domination.
It is a long way from disapproving of something to wiping it out of existence or stand accused of not really disliking it in the first place. In a world that requires dealing with the rest of humanity whether we like it or not, it is always a case of nuance, subtext, and two steps forward to one back if you are lucky.
The U.S. is involved in proxy conflicts with Russia in Iran and Syria, in case you haven’t been following the news. Maybe U.S. bases in Germany have outlasted their usefulness, I don’t know, but I do know that Russia is hardly a benign player on the world stage, especially from a U.S. perspective.
mqw
Latest on the Pakistani doctor and the Senate vote -- 81 voted against Rand Paul bill
I’m a big Maria Sharapova fan, though, in the interest of full disclosure.
Champ
The bases in Germany have been significantly reduced but they are the main staging area for supplies going to the middle east and for hospital care for those injured in theater. There is a useful purpose. Now whether or not Germany should bear more of the cost since they reap so much of the benefit of having 50,000 + Americans contributing to their economy might be another area of discussion.
Champ sorry I’m not living up to your standards ,
Sticking to the script around here
I’ll try
Romney is a idiot
Romney is going to loose
Romney is a rich bastard
Romney is , i don’t know something about a dog
Something about a chicken sandwich
Something about hair dye

I think hosting a foreign military power within domestic borders is payment enough, but that’s just me. Imagine: a German military base in Cincinnati.

Champ,
I agree with you, but it is a topic for discussion.
The main point is that there is rarely an issue that is totally black or white. There are all shades of grey and an occasional rainbow of nuance. Anyone making blanket statements as facts rather than opinion just may need to re-read the definition of “Nuance”.

Hillary’s speech today at the Clinton Global Meeting
renee, screw ‘em. tears in tequila land for solar’s forgotten
Ok Jamie , well let me know how we are going to fund Medicare , going in the red 2024
Social security , going in the red 2032
How do propose to pay for obamacare
We are already 16trillion in debt , with 60trillion in unfunded future liabilities
Got any ideas ?
Do we save save ourselves or destroy our own country trying to police the world
Which is it , can’t have both
mgw, when a mom & pop gets some cash, chances are they deposit it in the bank. When I get my social security, it’s deposited directly to my account, when you get your pay check, chances are you deposit at the bank and take cash for what you need now.
Ever since banks have been in business, they’ve spent lots of time figuring out how much cash people would actually want to hold in their hot little hands, and how much they would be content having the bank guarding. Much of the latter amount, the bank would loan out, all the time requiring that the borrower maintain a set amount of reserves in the bank. Most of the loan would be in the form of a credit to the borrower’s account, not in the form of cash.
Banks might be able to lend out $1000 until it grows to $10,000 or more because people don’t consume the money, they redeposit. This is all very nice until there’s a run on the banks such as happened during the depression or during the S&L crisis. People said, give me my money, and the bankers tried to explain, and the people panicked. After that, serious reforms were made with the Fed squarely in charge of the banks. I forget who was watching the S&Ls. No matter, they’re history now.
In any case the current banking system predates digital 0s and 1s, but the logic remains the same.
Yes I know about Iran and Syria
Have had many comments about Iran and Syria
Is assisting al-quada in trying to overthrow Assad ,worth restarting the cold war with russia ?
Flatus , I understand perfectly how the federal reserve system works
I know how money is created from debt
I challenge the claim that medicare and social security will be bankrupt soon.
Not sure I understand what’s been going on around here lately but it has been interesting. Trail Mix threads are like any organism, a contiguous living system capable of response to stimuli, reproduction, growth, development and maintenance of homeostasis as a stable whole. Maybe that’s our ultimate mission statement. The sort of thing I hope we find on Mars.
The federal reserve act was written by the banksters ,it was designed so the banks could charge perpetual interest on nothing
Then why the hell did you type this? Just to fuck with people who don’t have your expert knowledge? I tried to give you a straight answer to your comment down below, and then you throw a shit-ball. What a troll.
Craig , I don’t know what happened, you went to mars or some where and the place went to hell in a hand basket lol
MQW is on a journey of self-discovery, and we all get to watch. Don’t interrupt him, though, or he’ll get snippy.
Hell, I don’t know…I’ve just been watching my spider.
All day and now I get back and she’s squatting in the middle of her collapsed web, but with many guy wires out for support, one of them about 8′ up to the tree trunk. And a couple of incredible spans, laterally. I guess she’ll re-spin the orb tonight.
I could be induced to complain about mr obama I suppose, I do know it’s all baloney with me as the mayonaise, but there are two choices. One of ‘em is mr obama and the other one is mr romney. No other choices. As in zip, zilch, zero, and nada. So if I’m supposed to and have to choose, then I choose the party which engineered social security, medicare, food stamps, government cheese, and hopefully some kind of civilized health care which will not break a family’s back financially, that’s the gimme’s. Then there’s all sorts of other stuff which I agree with like equal pay for equal work, women’s rights, Civil Rights act, You know….attempts at creating a modern civilized society. That’s the democrats. I liked Ike ok cause I was a kid and he was a general and he liked golf, but after him there’s not another gop pres. worth his weight in cow chips. Yeah, the democrats got a lot of other problematic crap going on and they suck many ways at a rapid pace, but the alternative is republicans whom I cannot abide. I put in my time in the sixties, and I was on the side which got a massive amount of nasty crap to be changed and now the other side has enjoyed a resurgence and threatens to wreak what I see to be an ass of havoc. (for which as a concrete example instead of idealistic shine-ola see the Bush II presidency, please.)
Democrat, here.
The US has had worse debt in the past. The most important thing we need to do to avoid the kind of collapse MQW worries about is put people to work, so they can pay taxes. Full employment and an end to bush tax breaks would help enormously.
As I have written here before, the 200+% rise inthe price of gasoline under the bush plan acted like an enormous tax hike on the middle and lower class.
A draconian tax on gas hogs dedicated to funding alternative energy solutions, and a Manhattan Project type effort to rebuild the US (as much as practicable) a solar & wind-powered, plug-in E85-hybrid-transported, geothermal and and solar heated country will get us out of this mess in a hurry.
Such a program would 1. employ people & raise tax revenue, 2. make us less vulnerable to foreign oil extortion, 3. impoverish terrorists, 4. accomplishing 2&3 will shrink our need to maintain the horrendously expensive presence in the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, Indian & Atlantic Oceans, 5. lessen bp type spills & other carbon pollution, 6. lessen mercury poisoning, 7. conserve oil for emergencies, 8. shrink the price of oil. 9. shrink production of green house gases and thus the engine that overheats the globe, potentially saving 95% of Florida, 80% of Louisiana, 90% of Manhattan, Cape Cod, and much of the the rest of our coastline from inundation.
Caveat : an inundated Florida as an artificial reef would be very productive for our fishery if we could keep the redChinese out.
I told everyone I knew that if they elected that pompous little draft-dodging cheerleader they were really going to be sorry but noooooooo: Gore invented the internet, and Kerry was a war-coward.
And did youall see thayat? Doo-cockus put on a dayum hayal-ment.
Pity the poor goopers -- they turned ridicule into a campaign tool and now they are complaining because they are being outplayed.
Apparently after the incident on Miss Ann’s plane, Mittens wondered aloud why windows on planes don’t open.
mqw
First get the facts straight. The easiest way to fund Medicare and SS is to lift the cap on salaries, add the healthy on Medicare so that payments in can cover payments out. Force Congress to cut elsewhere to pay back the “paper” that has been given in exchange for surpluses to the general fund.
Now SS does not go broke in 2024. For the first time, money coming in will be less than the money being paid out, but the fund itself (see the bit about “paper” above) is loaded for a good long time.
Rework the whole tax system so that all the benefits go to the broad middle class not to the upper 2% and corporations for the simple reason that they will get it eventually as the middle class money moves around while creating a dynamic economy.
I’ve got lots of ideas on education and immigration, but this is enough for now.
Worst campaign ever…worst candidate ever
Wopo story on airplane windows

Damn, why do I miss all the fun threads?
I’m taking Amtrak to Chicago tomorrow. Does anybody know if train windows open in case there is a lack of oxygen?
I question that the US is helping al qaeda and that russia is an economic powerhouse.
I reject the notion that having an ambassador in Libya constitutes meddling.
In reality your many statements have proved that you don’t, nor do you have a basic understanding of money itself.
You may know how to deposit money and pay your bills but you seem to be basically clueless as to how the system that allows that to happen works.
Flatus by his answers to you has demonstrated a good working knowledge of the system. He did an excellent job of describing how the fed regulates the money supply to you the other day. By your response you demonstrated you didn’t have a clue what he was talking about.
Jack
The problem with bullshitting this crowd is that you all are just too damn smart.
Jack
xrep
Ambassadors always meddle, it is in the job description.
Jack
Jack,
Now you show up. Where were you when all Hell was breaking loose?
Even that concrete worker is sneaky smart. Who would have thunk it, a concrete worker with brains.
grin, duck, and run.
Jack
nope Sturg, I canceled that.
I refuse to say that I will never vote Republican.
What I can say is that I will vote Republican, when airliners have windows that open and close.
Boeing, are you listening?
Craig
I never got around to saying it(too busy) but that was some good writing you posted last week, including the mars piece. thanks for the effort.
Jack
That away Craig, stick to your guns,no pay no play.
It is after all the free market at work.
Craig,
Get your own show.
Pay yourself first.
If I were President Obama Iwould say that the 47% are red states that consume more Federal $$ than they provide.
In my 2d Inaugural I would reveal the economic package I want Congress to pass immediately, and any Congressperson who sat in the way would see the deficit balanced on the back of his district. On Feb 1st, if my package had not yet passed I would begin carrotandsticking: I’d ask Utah’s delegation how much they want the IRS offices to stay in Ogden, as opposed to moving to Pocatello, ID, Sheridan, WY, or the Big Rez, AZ. Of course, the 1st delegation from those other red states to defect from the puguglican boycott of Big Gov would get what Utah rejects, and probably a congressional seat to boot. In this maneuver the bonds between the red congress critters would evaporate. If WY didn’t co-operate the charge for timber, the rent for range land, and the fees for extraction of oil and coal would triple. I’d close their big tourist attractions. Then I would propose that WY lose it’s statehood for being too small and insignificant.
Etc.
That Ben Kingsley sure can act.
Pat,
Thanks for the Moyer’s piece, excellent.
The Romney Campaign.
My deepest fear is that nobody could be this bad, unless the outcome was bought, paid for, and in the bag.
Ha Jace, that is the point. But so many slugs out there begging to yak for free, TV news gets what it pays for. Meanwhile, I get more time to tend to my yard and cook nice meals for David (altho my chicken vegetable soup from leftovers tonight not exactly a masterpiece).
Craig,
Good for you, tend the soup.
In the meantime don’t give up on the idea of finding your own gig.
PS Leftovers are always a masterpiece. Tonight we are having yesterday’s pot roast. All I had to do was set it and forget it,besides it all comes down to the choice of the wine anyway.
XR,
WY lose its statehood? Now you have my undivided attention. Surely you jest!
You have cut to me to the quick.
Jace
If I were the president I would say to my cabinet and congressional delegation, “Bring me the horns and tails of the kochs, dick armey, the murdochs, alaweed ibn talal, guv scott of FL, and the waltons. Open investigations of Crimes Against Humanity in Iraq 2003 -- 2008 inclusive.”
“At the first sign of drought, I’m ending Federal Crop Insurance for corporate farms in the red states. If people-people aren’t s’posed to have government health insurance, then corporate-people can’t have it either.”
Gotta go hunting for a somewhat different vegetable beef soup for tomorrow. Any proven recipes welcome that start with a nice large soup bone.
Okay Jace, I’ll let you off with just a warning this time.
As Commander (of your attention) In Chief, I’d make LBJ look like Barack Obama.
GRRRRRR.
Jamie — whatever you do, add 2 cups of Sherry wine

We went to Omaha Friday for a wedding, one of the wife’s young coworkers was getting married. we went early so we messed around in Omaha and did the Zoo(btw if you are ever in Omaha take some time to see the zoo, it is world class and then some.). The wedding was like going to a company Christmas party. Anyway we go back to the hotel and to bed. around 1;30 in the morning we are both woke up out of a sound sleep by a girl’s squeal, As I’m hard of hearing it had to be loud. there were some drunken partiers out on the common balcony all the rooms share. this went on intermittently for the next 2 hours with the wife calling the front desk and them promising to do something about it. finally at 3;30 in the morning the wife calls down stairs again and is told they can’t figure out which room is making the noise. So she tells them that if they can’t then she will go out and find them and tell them to “stf up”.
So anyway in about 15 min they started in again and the wife threw on a pair of jeans and a tee shirt and went looking for the source.
LOL
The next think I hear is her voice saying “Shut the door and shut the f*ck up”, There was something said from in the room and she repeated herself. then a young man came out with a gangsta strut, I guess his skinny ass thought he was intimidating. I do know that the wife told him to get his ass back in the room close the door and shut the F*ck up. I’m not sure what would have happened next but I stuck my head out and said “Honey come on, we will call security and let them handle it.”
I don’t know if they did because we were wide awake and decided to head home. I loaded up the car and let the wife deal with the night clerk as only a diamond member can.( i think she may have gotten half of our winter vacation hotel bill paid for). so our saturday was shot and sunday we just did some quality us time. The only time I even was on line was to play a little reggae on Pandora as we built a flower box for the front of the house.
So I guess you all weren’t the only ones having a little excitement.

Simmer the bone for a few hours (not too much water).
While you’re bored, saute whatever type of chunks of beef you wish to add to the soup, and place to one side.
About an hour before serving time, add a large can of whole tomatoes with liquid. Add a can of water as well to the pan, and, if you think it’s needed, a can of beef broth.
As this starts simmering, check flavor. Use soy sauce for at least some of the needed saltiness. Add other herbs and spices as desired.
I liked adding barley--Kumcho liked adding chunks of potatoes. We’d take turns winning on which to add.
I’d see what kind of wine is around and pour a bunch of it in.
About twenty minutes before serving time, dump in the sauteed beef.
And, about ten minutes before serving, I’d get about a pound of mixed frozen veggies and dump them in along with extra frozen corn.
Correct the seasoning again. Make sure everything is done.
Serve.
Listen up LBJ, you can have all the guns and butter you want, but not at the expense of God’s natural treasure, Wyoming.
Jack,
I’m sorry I shouldn’t laugh, but that’s too funny.
Your wife must be amazing.
I spent a night similar to that in Sheridan WY (are you listening XR) I thought that it was the porn channel turned up too loud. It wasn’t.
As for the Zoo, I have never seen it but Cheryl has and she is in complete agreement with you. Have only been to Omaha on one occasion but thought it was a fine city. A well kept secret.
Jace
Flatus,
Your soup sounds good.
I like to serve soup with some kind of good bread and a glass of wine. Do you have a preference?
WhskyJack, your wife deserves the Silver Star. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Back in the late 70s, a pal of mine had a similar experience. He quietly closed the barbarians’ door and pennied them in tight. It would have been charged as false arrest, but no one knew who the false arresting ‘officer’ was.
DURST is the informational equivelant of Infamil. How do you think he won those emmies. Just more socialist flap jack from a flip jerk.
suibne
Jace,
Yeah,I heard you. Here in God’s Country, we think of WY as an annex of the Mall of America parking lot.
Actually, I love WY, it’s just those v8 cowboys I can’t stand. They think it ought to be every man for himself like back in the good old days. If it had actually been like that in the good old days, the Cheyennes and Shoshone would still own WY.
Welcome, silver fox, nice pelt you have there.
HAHAHAHAHA
By flip jerk, do you mean mr.etch-a-sketch?
2 cups of sherry makes a good soup by itself. Serves 2
I think I’ll have some right now.
Goodnight, and don’t let the troll-bugs bite.
XR,
You break my heart and then you go to bed.
Silver Fox,
We have been told repeatedly in recent days that divergent views are not welcome on the trail.
Welcome.
So much for that sad theory.
Jack , yes I do know how the banks create money from debt , it’s the general public that is ignorant ,
Obviously you didn’t know what I was talking about ‘
A short summary Of how it works
A bank ,
‘they all in the federal reserve system ‘
Can take a 100 dollar deposit , put 10 percent in reserve
That’s minimum required ‘
and loan out the remaining 90 , when that loan is deposited , the bank can put 10 percent of it in reserve and loan out the remaining 80 , when that 80 is loaned out and deposited , the bank can put 10 in reserve and loan out the remaining 70
And this process on goes till its played out
It doesn’t matter if it’s different banks because they all are in the same federal reserve system
So the banks can charge interest on money that never existed until the moment of the loan
That’s the simplified explanation ,
Silver Fox,
Are gruff billy goats really the favorite food of trolls?
That is the banks pay off from the partnership of the federal reserve and government
Being able to charge interest on nothing ,
Jack if you want to have a conversation
About the federal reserve , monetary policy , and the federal reserve banking system
Fine , but you might want to do a
Little research first ,
Because of you couldn’t follow along with what I was try to explain the other day , well obviously you have no idea what I was talking about
All those native americans don’t look alike.
Madame Spider is toiling in the vineyards, new net underway. A futile attempt to stave off the inevitable shuffling off of her eight-legged mortal coil. Her bucket list would probably say: “One more bug….just one more bug”.
If she drank I’d buy her a Bud.
But then, if she had a Bud she’d probably be hanging by a thread telling all the other spiders what a great net it was going to be.
Esoterica: “As black as Newgate’s Knocker”
How black was it?
http://www.peterberthoud.co.uk/2012/09/as-black-as-newgates-knocker/
as black as Newgate’s knocker Very dark, in colour or character. The simile draws on Newgate Prison’s notoriety as a place of death.
He’s just another bloody minded old upper-class bugger with a heart as black as Newgate’s knocker. Ames Hawes (2005)
This phrase was known by 1880 and remained popular well into the 20th century. Latterly it seems to have been most commonly used by parents chastising children for getting mucky.
For example; H.E. Johnson, writing in 1994 said:
My late mother often used an expression which must have had very old origins. If anything was very dark or dirty — all too frequently referring to myself or my attire — she would refer to it as being, “As black as Newgate’s knocker”.
