Obama Hubris?
If this is true here’s how the President loses re-election if he doesn’t shape up.
“In an extraordinary insight into the events leading up to the 90 minute showdown which changed the face of the election, a Democrat close to the Obama campaign today reveals that the President also did not take his debate preparation seriously, ignored the advice of senior aides and ignored one-liners that had been prepared to wound Romney. The Democrat said that Obama’s inner circle was dismayed at the ‘disaster’ and that he believed the central problem was that the President was so disdainful of Romney that he didn’t believe he needed to engage with him. ‘President Obama made it clear he wanted to be doing anything else – anything – but debate prep,’ the Democrat said. ‘He kept breaking off whenever he got the opportunity and never really focused on the event. He went into the debate armed with a number of one-liners to throw at Romney, including at least two about Romney not caring about 47 per cent of the country. But he decided not to use them.’” — Toby Harnden, Daily Mail
- Obama believed he’d got the better of Romney as he walked off stage to the dismay of his aides.
- The President failed to prepare properly, opting instead to visit the Hoover Dam the day before the showdown.
- He was so disdainful of Romney that he didn’t think he needed to even engage with him.

that explains the prez’ mysterious mona lisa smiles every now and then
very balanced debate with disdain exuding from both sides. imo mitt appeared more hubriser than the prez.
IMO, Romney was by far the more Hubriserer.
I predict that like last time, Mr. Obama will rise to the occasion.
OoooBree, OoooBree; Whatcha gonna do when he come for you?
Read an article in USA newspaper rag yesterday about how Protestants are losing ground percentage-wise in America. More are becoming “None” in reply to the “Religious Affiliation” box.
No…I did not buy it, someone left it behind for me.
AnonP…I think you have a clear grasp of the situation, and while you might go sailing close to various and sundry edges at times, the basics of your outlook are sound.
Good morning, was just watching Fox and the 3 hosts were making allowances for Hillary and the movie statement, pointing out that we don’t know her side of the story and what was told her. Amazing. My happy thought for the day- its looking like she is in a good position for 2016.
My eldest son is getting married this Sunday-am busy cleaning the house for the night before and making the desert table complete with French macarons (at least I hope- have 2 batches under my belt- hope my luck continues). My brother and nephews are coming coming up from GA and of course my parents. The cousins are a wild partying force ensemble and am mostly looking forward to watching their antics. Their sense of solidarity and joy at being bound by blood, the clan, especially when alcohol is involved makes them bold and unstoppable- to my overbearing sister’s chagrin. Anyways, its lots of fun to be a part of. I really didn’t foresee it but much prefer it to the diaper changing days! They all adore their grandmother and and plot and plan doing shots of Jamison with her and catching a buzz. No worries my son has hired a bus to transport us all, which should be a pisser! Off to make chocolates, wash the curtains, paint the stairs…. Love to you all!
Various and Sundry…….weren’t they a Vegas comedy duo back in the sixties?
So much for my theory that Obama’s sense of humour might have made it easier.
Obama should still be re-elected, but what effect might this have on House and Senate voting?
No point being President with a Senate that can block every move.
Were people looking for a presidential debate or a presidential roast? Maybe Don Rickles should run for president.
sea, mazeltov to the son!
xr, reagan wasn’t the first to help big oil stomp on innovation and interfere with the so-called sanctity of the market. about the same time they stiffed inventions alternative to petrol combustion, mama oil and her gritty son the trucking industry hired their political hitmen earlier to do in streetcars and passenger railway.
ap, please don’t leave me, solar and sturge alone here with all these sane people. you are a beacon, the lighthouse that warns us off the rocks ahead (or would that be heads full of rocks).
Interesting.
To heck with Big Bird, while watching the debate I kept flashing to that children’s story.. The Tortoise and the Hare. Now I know why. With the choices we have, maybe this ain’t a good time to be picking “none” on the religious affiliation box.
Craig, don’t diss Hoover Dam. That is a lot of concrete to stare at!
I laugh because before the debate everyone said debates do not matter. Who knows? The debate may not matter. But, Obama is foolish to think any mis-step or stumble won’t be magnified and distored by the republicans.
Don Rickles said he’s voting for Various and Sundry…..
Yep, he stepped in a big, steaming pile of his own hubris, alright. Nothing new, since he skated into the OO on his ability to charm the media, who helped him clothesline Hillary.
And his attitude is nothing new; his distaste for finally saying, “God, bless America,” for instance. It seemed like he would choke on those words in the beginning.
I can, however, understand Obama’s disdain of that sack-o-lies, Romney. And, he has a chance to redeem himself in a way that he might be able to digest; just point out what an untrustworthy, flip-floppin’ liar Romney has been. Talk about the devil you don’t know!
sea!!! -- Congrats! (What color are the French macarons?)
And, Bill Maher made a very good point about Lyin’ Ryan: Is he actually a policy wonk or is it just an act? When pressed for details, his pat answer is that it’s too complicated for us to understand. Jackal!
Yes….Jackal. Indeed.
zvy…I still think the dems will keep the Senate and the tea baggers will hold the House. The blue dog dems of 2008 are gone, thank goodness. They were republicans at the core, anyway and did not help the dems in the House.
In my state, it appears both of our Senators will be democratic.
Not a good sign for you Democrats.
How many election losers have sat out in the cold muttering to themselves “how am I losing to this guy” Bob Dole says it to this day about the Big Dawg.

Mitt’s 47% Mea Culpa Tour
by Taylor Marsh
Jack, thanks for the Dire Straits/Clapton vid on the last thread. Great music to wake up with. I kept waiting for Clapton to step up and trade licks with Knopfler, but like in the debate, what could have been the great part of the show never happened. Clapton stood there smiling and playing rhythm.
AP, I for one have never really thought you are crazy -- a bit more extreme than me perhaps, but not over that edge. The last election the beef with your rhetoric was the Nazi references, which poobah asked you to tone down, and in deference to him you did. Frankly I hope you continue to post and do so more often. I think it’s good to have a less mainstream perspective in the mix.
One thing that jumps out at me in the polling frenzy going on is Rasmussen. The only poll that had Romney ahead in September and before has the race at a tie now. I think that the polling will continue to change between now and the election -- then we might know who won this horse race.
Somebody needs to set the President down and explain just how piss poor of a job he has done. Not just as president but also as candidate. His strong suit is oratory and he delivered a lack luster convention speech.
Now, he has not bothered to show up for the debates.
His handlers have put together a great team that is quick to jump on the weaknesses of the opposition. But Obama is going to have to carry more of the load this time around. He really is the man this time. And if he wants to win he needs to demonstrate that.
Jack
Sea… Congrats to Louis! Tell him Rick and I say Hi.
Enjoy the wedding…. and the clean house…
AnonP… If you left here, I would miss you.
Carol… nice to see you here. I do lurk your swamp. Good luck with all your painting… and politically, keep stickin’ it to Coreen…
Sturg… here’s an article about the religion subject from the Christian Science Monitor… and it ain’t no rag…
What’s ahead for US as more Americans lose connection to religion.
Dana Milbank should be coaching Obama for the next debate.
“The threat presented by Romney’s budget is not in the few cuts he has specified but in the vastly larger amount of unseen cuts he has yet to identify.”
He points out that the $5T tax cut he proposes, if revenue neutral as Ryan said, has to be offset by $5T in spending cuts that he has not even taken a stab at identifying.
“Obama is making a mistake in allowing the discussion to be about Big Bird, which he continued to do on Monday, telling supporters that “Elmo has been seen in a white Suburban” (apparently a botched reference to O.J. Simpson’s white Bronco). His new campaign ad, likewise, has a cute punch line: “Mitt Romney, taking on our enemies, no matter where they nest.”
“Obama would do better to focus on Big Bird’s elephantine friend Aloysius Snuffleupagus. For years, Big Bird tried to convince the skeptical grown-ups on “Sesame Street” that his “imaginary” friend was real. Finally, after concern that the grown-ups’ dismissal of Big Bird’s truthful claim might dissuade children from reporting sexual abuse, “Sesame Street’s” producers made Snuffy visible to the grown-ups.
“In the presidential campaign, Big Bird is a distraction from Romney’s real cuts, which he is not yet allowing Americans to see. Obama should be drawing attention to the elephant in the room.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Renee, I saw the article in WaPo about more people answering “none” to questions about their religion. I thought about the implications and like them -- more Bill Mahers and fewer Pat Robertsons.
“More than six in 10 religiously unaffiliated voters are registered Democrats and are more likely to identify as liberals: 72 percent support legal abortion and 73 percent support same-sex marriage, the report found. …
… but …
“Even though people identify themselves as religiously unaffiliated, they are not wholly secular, said Funk. A majority consider themselves religious or spiritual in other ways: 68 percent say they believe in God, 37 percent classify themselves as “spiritual” but not religious, and 21 percent say they pray every day, according to the report.”
From Craig’s twitter feed
Are you sure that shouldn’t be Eddie Haskell V Gomer Pyle ?
Biden’s “Awh Shucks” shtick is a Yankee Gomer, too me/

Carol said,
Maybe we need stretching exercises more than religion. Ya know,m As in “bend over stick your head between your legs and kiss your A** goodbye”

On that I’m outa here
Jack
Jack, I thumbed up your 8:20. If there is a shred of truth in Harnden’s source’s account, the blame is at O’s feet , and pretty much at his feet alone.
I would like to hear Obama say something like -- “It’s arithmetic, Mitt. A 20% tax rate reduction for middle and upper income earners amounts to $5T over the next ten years. You’ve specified offsetting savings of $488B over that period by cutting out the CPB subsidy. OK, so its a $4.5T reduction in revenue that without offsetting cuts increases the deficit by that much. And that doesn’t even take into account the increase in military spending you propose. There isn’t enough nondefense discretionary spending to cut to make up that deficit without dramatically cutting funding for or kicking folks off social security and out of medicare and medicaid, so just how in the name of the almighty do you think that tax cut doesn’t increase the deficit? And you still have not told the American people which of the deductions they take on their taxes you are going to eliminate as you cut the rate and broaden the base. Your running mate didn’t have the time to explain how you’d make the numbers work. Care to take a stab at it? I think America deserves to know.”
But I’m neither a politician, handler or a particularly good debater, so what the hell do I know?
A star is not born…Beyonce dumps Clint’s project --
http://www.eonline.com/news/352774/beyonc-out-of-a-star-is-born-hopes-to-work-with-clint-eastwood-in-the-future
Pogo… I like the implications also. I too would check off “none”. But unlike Maher, I do believe in God. Or something that might be called God… although if I went into an explanation, I’m sure the religiously bound here would say “that’s not like any God I know”…
Well I felt the same way Obama and back when we were all giving advice to the president — I said the same thing he was thinking. The difference was the moderator who did nothing. (not necessarily a bad thing but completely unexpected)
I along with the six other Sonomans who watched the debate thought Mittens was aggressively lying and Obama was discussing the issues.
However, I don’t think Obamarama will make the same mistake twice. He like to win and the American public spoke — they want blood.
Currently the American political system has two parties.
If you don’t like your choices — it is the system that needs to be changed.
Not voting is also making a statement and essentially says you are opting out and leaving the choice to others -but then you really can’t complain.
Too often people complain but then when offered real choices — they frequently won’t take the risk --because “it might not work” or “a city in tibuktu tried it once and it failed” No guts no glory.
If you a ready to throw the better choice under the bus because he thought what the rest of us are thinking -that Rmoney is lying asshole who doesn’t deserve to be on the national stage --then I hope you are ready for soup lines and lots of elderly being warehoused or dying early because of lack of medical care…because Mittens and goops don’t believe you have a right to medical care.
I have spent the last two years helping an elderly neighbor keep his medicaid (they tried to take it away because he is $10 a month over the poverty level-- he got a cost of living raise in his social security so Med-i-Cal wants to dump him)
If Mittens were president this person would be living in his car to keep his medical insurance…or dead
Real people will die if Mittens is elected because Republican policies do not believe that medical care, housing and food is a human right. Mittens tries to be empathetic saying it’s terrible so many people need food stamps and what need are better jobs…but in the mean time no jobs and the republicans are trying to take away food stamps.
AnonP…
For me, the 2008 primaries are history… Obama won… period. He’s going up for re-election… period. None of us really knows Hillary’s future plans.
I agree with your assessment from last night that Hillary would have met the same resistance as Obama has if she had won. There’s only one thing worse than a black, foreign, muslim man in the WH for the batshitcrazy goppers… and that’s a woman… of any color or religion.
However, the big difference I saw at the time is that Hillary knew what was coming… Obama didn’t have a clue. She was prepared for it… Obama wasn’t. Therefore,IMO, Obama wasted precious time(with a Democratic Senate and Congress) trying to get some Republicans on his side.
In some ways, IMO, Obama is still naive. And if Craig’s column today is correct, that naivete is in grand evidence. But I will be voting for him come November 6th.
I think the difference is people are spiritual but not interested in belonging to an organized religion because most of them promote hate
KGC…Rmoney, like GHWB, will push the social issues to the ‘church.’ A thousand points of light. If everyone were Mormon, they would pay their tithing of at least 10% and become eligible for one of the greatest welfare systems in the world. They just have to be worthy.
And that is ‘where’ Rmoney is going to get his tax reform…everyone pays their tithing (broadening the base) and lives a worthy life…then the welfare will follow.
Obama’s numbers among Independent voters are sinking badly since that 1st debate. Lets hope his gotv turnout machine can get the younger voters and the women voters to show up and vote between now with early and absentee voting, and on election day. The electoral map still greatly favors Team Obama, and the remaining debates could shift the momentum back quickly.
—Fueling his current polling surge, Mitt Romney’s numbers with indies are just getting remarkably good.
a. IBD/ITP poll released today: Romney 52% Obama 34%.
b. Pew poll, released yesterday: Romney 46% Obama 42%.
c. Politico/GW poll, released yesterday: Romney 51% Obama 35%.
d. CNN, released last week: Romney 49% Obama 41%.
e. National Journal, released October 3: Romney 49% Obama 41%.
Now having said that, Romney has done well this entire cycle with independents, but not enough to overcome turnout models that suggested much, much higher Democratic turnout.
But now he’s killing it so soundly that it’s enough to overcome higher Democratic turnout. In fact, in ARG’s poll of Ohio today, Dems are sampled at +9% over Republicans, but Romney wins indies by 20%, which is enough to inch ahead, overall, 48%-47%.
Some of this is a debate bounce, but as I’ve said, one of the most under-reported stories this cycle has been Romney’s continual lead with independents. That always assured this would be a close election, regardless.
In fact, Barack Obama won indies by 8% in 2008. Romney is easily hitting that number in the most recent batch of polls.
Now rmoney is trying to pretend he won’t try to take away the right to abortion
LIAR
It’s all about the turnout
most of the voter suppression in states that count have failed
I think what you are seeing is right leaning indies who were depressed about Rmoney --thinking the debate gave them hope.
Rmoney is a liar on choice shrub said exactly the same thing and the first thing he did in office was to cut off aid for abortions as part of foreign aid packages
Any woman who votes for Rmoney might as well just wear a burka — it’s disgusting for him to try to use Afghan women as a excuse for war when he treats American women with worst disrespect
Go SF Giants --at least one more day of baseball Mr. Cracker even put on his rally hat last night.
I voted for Obama yesterday…one independent vote down. And it looks like it will be one vote at a time for Obama and for the can’ts…more votes due to their voter registration drive….more pug voters in September skewed the polls. Not more independents. From the ashes of Acorn, the republicans stole the idea of a voter registration drive and now a private firm drives the republican voter drive…my favorite video was from Colorado where a women from the private company hired by republicans was filmed at the front door of a prospect. She claimed she was from the county clerk’s office and could only register republicans. Voter fraud will increase this year at the hands of the republicans.
I guess ARG must have sampled in Boner’s family bar
The Goops are good — practiced liars. They are the ones who complain about election fraud but historically they are the fraudsters — hello Donald Seghretti --
What about the republican office holder who continued to cast his dead a girl friends vote for five years..
And the current voter registration scandal. Republicans think it is ok to lie, cheat and steal as long as god is on your side. The irony of course is lost on them
AP
I believe you. I always have and still do. You (and Cbob) scare the crap out of me on daily basis. I’m sorry if I haven’t said so. I would miss you. And everyone would have missed your daughter’s wonderful story that was offered to give hope.
I try only to speak for myself but in this case I think I can represent others here — we appreciate you
and what you bring to this community.
Other Ohio polls show Obama still ahead and my sources in bellwether Stark County say it is still Obama.
If it is all about the turn out then Obama loses.
Jack
Billy
interesting numbers.
A couple of weeks ago I was predicting an Obama win, maybe even a landslide.
Now it is looking like I was a bit hasty.
Never underestimate the Democrats ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Jack
bw, at yours and hubby’s lowest point tho’ during this depressing recession, would you two have considered converting to get that welfare?
Would someone please do me a major favor and strangle Darrell Issa or at least hold a hearing on all of his many criminal activities? This totally useless, grandstanding piece of sludge makes me ill. I don’t actually “hate” most politicians, but Issa is one of the few exceptions. At least he won’t get to grill Hillary in his latest nauseating, self important, salute to his own ego hearing.
Ann Rmoney’s appearance on ABC was kind of luke warm
I think Democrats must have scared the crap out of them in terms of their plan to use her to make the Mittster even warmer and fuzzier
No, patd…I am a secular human…I would not be able to lie to get the welfare.
Did you hear the Mittser yesterday -- he met one of the people who died (he didn’t know that until someone told him) and he went on a big riff abut how wonderful this guy was..I call baloney
So you know they are getting to make a big deal out of this..at least the goopers have stopped saying Stevens was targeted because he was gay and the State dept was irresponsible in sending a gay person to the middle east
but there’s no difference between Obama and Rmoney
KGC…it is democratic voter suppression and republican voter inflation.
unless they resort to per curiam opinions for the social issue cases, considering the scotus catholic majority, seems enterprising reporters could foretell upcoming opinions by closely watching the communion rail.
Larry’s List
Conservatives Blame Obama for Sending Allegedly Gay Ambassador to Libya
Conservative blogs are saying U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens was gay and shouldn’t have been sent to the Middle East; Stanford University study claiming organic foods are useless is being called fraudulent. more

Fortunately the voter suppression laws only stand in states that won’t go for Obama anyway
Where it counts they have been struck down.
But you are right.
The Republicans and Missouri will be so proud to be represented by Todd Akin. If he believed the no pregnancy myth — what else do you supposed he (and other goopers) believe? He might have said it out loud in a public forum but he isn’t the only goopers who believed (I think they still do)
If America elects Rmoney it is the 53% turning their backs on the 47%
The real winners of the “horse race” are the broadcasters — in Ohio something like 30 million more has been spent because of the Rmoney surge.
The losers are the American people who if Rmoney is elected will look fondly back on Shrub
Here is the video --
Gee when the acorn tapes came out --CNN and others ran it on a loop --where is this?
where is the immediate congressional hearing….

Mongo is dead….
Alex Karras dies at 77.
What would America look like today if Rmoney had been elected in 2008
There would be no American car industry (except fo Tesla)
Social security and medicare and medicaid would be gone replaced by subsidies that aren’t enough.
Food stamps would be gone (and all the income to farmers)
No PBS or children’s television workshop
No free television without commercials (well that ship had already sailed)
No first responder support
We would still be at war in Iraq (and getting our asses sued all over the place) and we would probably be at war in several other places by now and a much more beefed up presence in Afghanistan
Gay people would still be in the closet in the military or worse.
Chris Christie would be heading the president’s fitness program
Donald Trump would be the sec’y of the treasury
Too bad the woman videoing the voter registration woman didn’t use the term “Honey Boo-Boo” instead of “Honey Bunch”…it would have gotten more air time on cable.
While McCain only sang about bombing Iran — President Rmoney would do it
p b shelley
ozymandias = obama?
It isn’t so much the bad debate performance — it’s willingness that people have to pile on for one bad night
Rmoney is horrible terrible person who has run a horrible terrible campaign and because he lied and looked good doing it on one night now he’s a winner.
Sturg might be right. Do you want to remain in America that rewards that kind of value. I have always thought Nelson BC was the place to go.
Things more important than the latest partisan talking point.
I still believe religion and government should be separate and I don’t mind the government holding the keys to the jail. Whose morality is it anyway? When we joined in our collective hive to provide group benefits, I am glad religion was not given the keys. They historically have abused their power — The Spanish Inquisition comes to mind.
Religion is so exclusive and government inclusive. I do not want my government run like a church.
Ugh the SF sheriff convicted of domestic violence got his job back — speaking of people who have exploited the political system for personal gain. For everyone who wonders why the green party in Cal never achieved success look no further than Ross Murkarami and that other clown Gonzales who screwed the city over in a mayoral election…both used the greens to gain notoriety but when it came to electoral politics bailed and left the greens in a bad situation
Another point of the Rmoney administration
Mormonism would become the defacto state church
people need to pay their fair share in taxes and not escape through religious donations which let them set a different policy then civil society has established.
It’s like all the wounded veterans charities — if the rich assholes who pat themselves on the back for their donations paid their fair share the VA would have the money to treat people
they are rewarded for being tax cheats
Despite all the whoha Obama still is the winner in intrade ..
Late at night, when hubby is asleep and I am watching H2 channel…I see Hawkings in a wheel chair spinning around…he looks like Commander Pike in that Star Trek episode. He is talking about how the life just began…there is no creator. It was a snap! And for us humans who are created sexually, it is hard to accept no creator. Hawkings’ life can be explained by a the simple bumper sticker Shit happens!
And I start thinking of religion and control — in reading my history book, I learn the powerful shaman in the tribe could bring the sun back and forth with his religious power…thereby controlling life. As if religion could protect us from the ‘crap shoot’ of life. Protect us from the misery on earth. And how a simple fact of science could create a powerful man who controlled humans. I finally get tired…and pray to god things get better tomorrow.
when they were kids my mother and her brother used to argue and the biggest insult was ..”you are a product of spontaneous combustion”
KGC…I used to cringe when Bill Mahrer would attack religion, but in many ways he is correct. Religion provides huge comfort, but in reality when the facts are in…no one owns creation. There are many wonderful humans who have walked on the planet promoting god. But, in reality, there is no man in the sky with a gray beard, a planet Kolob or any correct direction to pray. It is a framework for fellowship for some and I applaud that. I love when humans get along. I hate when humans do not get along and many times religion is behind that.
If anything, the Mormons are an effective block of voters. In Arizona and California, they have successfully pulled together some unholy alliances in voting against legislation for the rights of gays and lesbians.
BW
I think there is a place for faith and spirituality but organized religion has thrived on classism and hate and that’s why thinking people are abandoning traditional organized religion and people who can’t or won’t think are flocking to the mega churches.
The Mormon church was the largest donor to the prop hate (8) campaign in cal — the tex payers paid for the no on gay marriage campaign in california — how fair is that
Religion — too big to fail. Corporations — too big to fail. Government — too big
I see a pattern here…BIG. Nothing for the average human AND small business. Mr. Big is winning.
Seeing as how both campaigns are excluding 41 states, the winner should be declared the President of only Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Iowa, Colorado, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. The rest could be free to pick their own.
Craig… OMG you aren’t kidding…
after the NH state primary last month, our phone quieted down for a few weeks. Now it’s back to none stop polling and this group and that group asking us to vote for so and so. We’ve stopped answering it again.
Can’t wait for all the crap to be over with.
This is a review of some doctor’s claim he died (came back) and went to heaven with apparently is peopled with beautiful young women with blue eyes (gives some credence to the 40 virgins story)
CC
Would each state get to pick their own or do the 41 have to act in concert certainly would give a platform for the state’s rights people
Great, Craig…more percentage politics. The 41 states shall be the 82%. Not to be confused with the 30% Ryan thinks are on permanent welfare or the 47% who victims. Or the 65% who thought Rmoney won the debate.
We have been sliced and diced to death. My one vote is really .73 of a vote and I hope it is not wiped-out by solar flares.
Tony…Solar…
I find both of your comments very informative and do enjoy reading them no matter when you leave them. I just do not think that many here take me seriously when I do leave comments though.
At this time in this election cycle I do not want to get into a war with anyone since I like those who regularly make up the majority of Craig’s TM’ers.
I miss many of those who no longer visit and I miss ChefSheila the most of all of them. While I find no fault with those who have had issues with some, I will in no way defend many of those with whom issues were had. That’s between them and the person they had those issues with.
I did not mean to come across the way you took my comment in the last thread and do very much appreciate your kind words.
Lets just say that I try very hard to bite my tongue over what I sometimes perceive to be unwarranted as I see them, comments about our President.
I believe that they just re-enforce the talking points of the Party that has done everything it can to denigrate, ill-legitimize and demean President Obama even though he has tried to be President of all Americans. This is what a President should be, President of all the people.
Unfortunately though he can only do so much through Executive Orders and without the backing of both the House and Senate he’s left with many unfulfilled promises.
There are many issues that I find very disturbing with regards to Constitutional Issues (Gitmo, indefinite detention, etc…etc…etc…)however, he is still a better man and President than what the other side would do to our country if the low information voters and disappointed Democrats allow them to put a Republican such as a Bishop of the Mormon Church in the White House.
Anyway that’s my story and I’m sticking too it like you would say Solar.
Have a great day guys and hope your doing well.
Where’s our boy Bill Clinton — he needs to make another speech
“I see Hawkins in a wheel chair spinning around…he looks like Commander Pike in that Star Trek episode. He is talking about how the life just began…there is no creator.”
Don’t forget that Hawkings made it a point to show/prove to the Pope (papa pablo) that there was not a cause and effect (god)that made the world. Up until then we all thought that everything had to have a cause…he proved other-wise….Pope said….ok but keep that under your hat.
Religion is government…until the time when organized religion is not longer around…there will be someones “TRUE” religion that can make the world a much better place to live in…….or else.!
Religion and politics go back a long, long way….all the way back to the Greek Gods…take a look at greek mythology….imo this is where it had a big influence on the three Abrahamic faiths……hell it was the source of the bible…the Christians stole every story from greek mythology:
Hercules…the ten commandments…risen from the dead….the son of god (jesus, or zeus at that time)plus hercules when he held the world on his shoulders for a little while….u know, like Atlas..hercules also ascended into heaven. He even had to go and get a golden apple from the garden of eden……forgot his stepmothers name( her garden, she was a god also)….but it had a dragon guarding this apple of knowledge.
Like Jesus and mosses, Zeus was put in safe places to hide from those that wanted to kill them…..Zesus mother kept him alive in a cave…maybe an animal or two in it….
Lot of politics in this family of Gods, the Titans were not a very pretty bunch…..then the one true god….the big Z,zeus came and took over his dads (cronin?)kingdom with the help of his little bros and sister gods…lots of politics im telling you.
If any religious person would take the time out to examine greek mythology…they would not believe in the book of myths….i have made a few secular people from showing them where to look for themselves….thats the problem….they don’t believe anything that is not in the bible…but the few that did…are now the very nice people, now that they include all world peoples( a little mix of evolution, science)and not just their own particular brand of Christians, or catholic, etc…
Many other things could be taught in our schools like this….and real history. I know some college adults that still believe that
Earl Flynn was a hero in the military….Custers (the big horn)last stand
When we get the school system to teach real history…not holy-wood history…then you will have a better place to live in…..and when the end of organized religion comes to an end…..and it will the end of terrorism, wars (95%) etc……
“re-tweeting” myself here — O-team losing days of after-spin worse than debate itself: All about mea culpas and Big Bird, not enuf Mitt mask ripping
Also, stop telling us how tough he’s going to be next time. Just do it, quit raising expectations
AP, always appreciate your participation. You’re tough on the enemy but you have a kind soul.
AP,
Im going to ape what the Pogo said…I like all that u post…even the 5% of the stuff when u go over the cliff…makes me laugh out loud…..and who else would have the balls to call the bush family a part of the hitler mafia family…even while being paranoid….its funny stuff im telling u….tanks homie
Craig
I think Obamarama has been trying to do just that but the media could only talk about the polls and not the fact checking or anything else. When the fact checking looked bad for Rmoney --rightwing enablers said it’s not the job of the media to fact check wtf
Solar…thank you for the thoughts. I am on the side of science…even if flawed humans are running the experiments. Since we banded together, religion has had the upper hand in controlling the masses because it is so magical. Science is so empirical. But, I do believe Hawkings…I know the earth is older than the creationists believe. I see planets from my house.
well i enjoyed the Frontline doc last night on Romney and Obama but — and i hate to be a know-it-all — nothing there I hadn’t heard already. Had hoped that after all that work they would churn up fresh stuff. Seems like they just hashed together all the profiles and biographies already done
KGC
I think that may be the problem. The Big Dawg talked dreams and vision. He managed to get people to believe that Obama was the second coming of the Big Dawg.
During the debate reality set in.
Jack
Yep KGC — media, as usual, chasing fireflies BUT his staff should have shut up about their debate internals and talked about nothing but Mitt’s lies and flips. They fed the media “we lost” story line with all the hand wringing. And while I had fun with Big Bird it was a pointless distraction for them to get into it, they should have stuck to mask-ripping Mitt. And the one who yammered to Toby Harnden (a great reporter, btw) in article above should be tracked down, drawn and quartered!
Craig,
Just getting what the two party system is willing to give us no?
Make the one party system…is there no more to learn because of that, not much difference between them no?…just saying.
CC, right you are. What the hell is happening with Gibbs & Axelrod? Did they forget how to do this stuff?
AP, great post, kimosabe.
Solar, don’t forget the Egyptians when it comes to religion and government. The pharaohs blended the two like no one else.
Craig…I think the Obama team forgot their charge --
No malingering, nothing to see here folks, move along.
Pogo,
“Solar, don’t forget the Egyptians when it comes to religion and government. The pharaohs blended the two like no one else.”
Compadre…yep they sure did….big time.!…and I will “walk like an (not pray) Egyptian” right now….going for Lunch, now where is that XR…owes me a cpl….later
Dem pollster Stan Greenberg is circulating this message he tested in focus groups with unmarried women (the group he says is driving post-debate shift to Romney). He found that the following talking points got 72 percent of unmarried women to say it would make them more likely to support Obama:
Democrats will all feel better when they watch Biden tear Ryan to pieces.
He’ll show the boss how to do it, and maybe, just maybe, Obama will take some notes.
Everyone…!!!!!!!!
I am not leaving, just not going to comment too much. Sort of like I do now. Yes I’m a hit and runner, but that’s just me.
I spend close to three hours everyday reading posts on a number of sites, though I only actually comment on a small (very small) number of them.
Trail Mix is my favorite site to come to and it has some of the best people I am proud to associate myself with.
And yes I sometimes do come across as scary, but I also scare myself a lot as well. This is not the person I truly am, however I do see dire consequences for our country and it scares the crap out of me.
This election will in all likelihood be the most important election in my lifetime though I may very well be wrong and do not think I will see another election in the future that will be as life changing as this one will be.
I just find it disheartening to see many leave their thoughts about our President that end up validating the Republican Talking Points though I’m sure that’s not what they intend to do.
But after all, though its not their intentions and I fully understand their reasoning behind them, I find them to be disquieting to read.
And once again plagiarizing Solar all I got to say is that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Have a great day everyone, later.
Poobah, correct me if I’m wrong, but this year’s obsession with polls is a new thing, or at least the degree to which it has become the central narrative is a new thing. I remember checking polls before, but can’t recall them being the centerpiece of the election coverage in the past.
This morning I saw a brief spot on that doc who died and lived to write about heaven. They referred to the beautiful inhabitants of the place as perhaps being angels. I’m sorry, but give me a break. Dead from this side and dead from that side aren’t likely to be the same. Here it’s a matter of breath and heartbeats and brain function. There? Who knows? Maybe I’m wrong, but I doubt that death is reversible. If it is, you weren’t.
Tend to agree with you Nash but how many times have we seen Joe get carried away and turn into a cartoon. BTW, they’ve had him pinned down in Delaware for six days of prep, no public events. Don’t know if that’s good or bad.
Craig… I agree with your assessment of the Frontline documentary. I enjoyed it,but expected more. After all, it was billed as having fresh and new insights…. which it clearly didn’t.
AnonP… I too really miss Sheila. I have recently heard from her and she’s mainly now on Facebook. I think that is where so many former TMers… both Obama and Hillary supporters… now mostly post. I don’t do Facebook… I don’t care what others ate for breakfast…
Pogo, media (self included) have always been this obsessed — but with everyone getting easy access to polls on the internet political junkies everywhere can join the party. The problem is using polls as predictors — bad idea. As a pollster once told me, “We’re all just looking in the rear-view mirror.”
…..noticed a big difference here at the Mix…from last election.
Not many (any?) quotes from the late night clowns last time they were constant…or snl….mean anything?
I’ll be back later if I have time between my late afternoon nap and my regularly watched cable shows on the innertubes as Alaska Representative or was that Senator Stevens called it, the Ed Show, Rachael and Lawrence O’Donnell.
And I may even bring up some God talk to counter those Reich Wing Republicans who like to use the Bible in their delusional rhetoric.
For now I have to get my laundry out of the dryer and try to take a short nap. I’m not getting any younger body or age wise, but I always use to say that if I lived to thirty I would never die. Don’t we all wish that, talk about being delusional!
Later all and have a great day.
And now it is Obama himself today in a radio interview keeping this post-debate mea culpa spin going. Geez, OK already
Even here he talks about Romney saying things that aren’t true, but then doesn’t say which things, ends up just talking about himself.
probably all too old to hear the late night shows
The Republicans are disgusting their twisting of the facts and the kangaroo hearing is terrible
and CNN is enabling them Brooke Baldwin eww the new Kira whatever her name was who married John Roberts ugh
That looks a lot like the Big Dawg’s convention speech. So did the Big Dawg consult his focus group or did he just know what would sell?
Jack
The search for facts in the death of ambassador stevens
who is interested in the facts -the republican stoning or the committee appointed by Sec’y Clinton (made up of people with the reputation for the truth)Mike Mullen will be the chair --I believe he is a Republican
a perfect contract --republican witch hunts or democratic hunts for the facts
Good catch, Whsky. Greenberg is Bill’s favorite pollster. They probably wrote those talking points together.
Man oh man I am with Craig and y’all, screw all this “Hates Big Bird”, “I was to polite at the debate”, etc.etc.etc. Team Obama, get out there every minute and talk about pocketbook issues and how Mitt hates 47% of ya, thinks middle class folks all make 200k to 250k per year, wants to make the Pentagon spend trillions more than THEY THEMSELVES even want to spend, all borrowed of course, talk jobs jobs jobs and plans for more more more, economy economy economy, act like a darn REAL Democrat and talk about everybody’s pocketbook and why Mitt hurts and wants to hurt yours and mine. Silly crap mode from Team Obama is ignorance on steroids!
Patd,
“ap, please don’t leave me, solar and sturge alone here with all these sane people.”
Don’t know about u and ap…but sturge and i are not crazy…..not all there, but not crazy….welllll maybe a little. Nope u have it right…we right there with u….me, Chloe said so, so she must be right…..and how about that sturge: he said “if i jump into the ocean, i would not get wet”…..he thinks that hes …..’It’…gotta be something in that last Mustang Sally he drank huh?
Pat,
Speaking of we are all…”IT”…..wanna here the latest? me and my bro the priest…………
I see Obama is in the “can’t do anything right” period with the media
the thrill up Tweety’s whatever is long gone. And people who once said Clinton was beyond redemption are now calling for Obama to more like Clinton..
the media and mitt rmoney are both liars -- I hope I don’t suffer because of it
I think I’d rather be thinking about how Obama will win
Right after the debate Obama did focus on the liar Rmoney and the media didn’t care and wouldn’t over it they were too excited about turning it into a horse race
as for big bird ..one line in a whole speech again the media pretending Obama is spending is whole time talking about big bird to give credibility to Mittens retort
Mittens has spent the whole campaign using big bird
he’s an idiot for thinking he can fill the deficit or do any public good by crushing pbs
Where is the story about Jack Welsh .. Ali Belshi of CNN said Welsh was endangering his legacy by making statements he did about the jobs numbers…but no one else really called him ..they continued to let him spew his bullshit as though it deserved any consideration
Biden did ok with Palin managed to find the right notes
and I think he will do the same with Ryan --
I hope they bring up the latest Rmoney position on abortion in an slimey sleazy attempt to deceive women about his real position.
Fran Townsend commenting on a republican hearing?????
without being identified as a partisan and pretending the state department hasn’t set up a factfinding commission with Mike Mullen as the head
CNN helping elect Rmoney
One thing I would like to see the Democrats do is quit it with the “scare you” .
They need to brag about how well the system worked in 2008 and 2009. Because it did. Remember all the soup lines in 2009? of course you don’t that is because unlike the 30′s, they didn’t happen. We didn’t see fathers hopping a freight chasing down a rumor of a job because their families were starving. Why? Because the New Deal and the Great Society programs worked as they were suppose to.
The democrats should be shouting this as loud as they can. Because even though people are having a hard time , it would be so much worse without these programs in place.
Jack
It’s hard to be civil or debate a person who is “manic”!
That said, the President’s Policies are Working — U.S. Debt has Shrunk to a six-year low!
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/10/1142543/-Bloomberg-U-S-debt-has-shrunk-to-a-six-year-low via @dailykos — Despite GOP Obstruction!
Let’s be clear, President Obama is a truthful, honest, brilliant man who is concerned about all of Americans, not just the 47 percent or the rich and well connected. He is working hard to right the wrongs that have caused the U.S. to be a nation that benefits the wealthy while the average Joe & Jane are being squeezed and the doors of opportunity closing. Pres. Obama is w orking for fairness and equal opportunity for all. He is not lying or making up stuff to get elected. Remember the Mitt you heard when he thought no one was looking, the one on the Secret Videotape is the real Mitt Romney, and it ain’t pretty.
the programs are not working
food banks are covering the need not met by federal food assistance
More families are homeless
the problems are worse than ever just not getting any press --
the fastest growing population segment is the poor
and the food banks are running out
People line up everyday for food in Santa Rosa California at the Salvation Army downtown and even in tiny guerneville there is a once a week food basket handout and another place offers a hot meal.
San Francisco has plenty of places with food lines
There you go KGC
Giving Ryan permission to tear the system up. “because even the liberals know it doesn’t work.”
LOL
Jack
It’s why they aren’t working that is important
Republicans have gutted the funding
No KGC, your problem is the fact that they are working and have been for sometime. You just can’t admit it for some strange reason. so you give an opening for them to be dismantled for a “better idea”
Jeez our poor people waddle down the street because they are too fat.
By 1930 standards there are no hungry people in the US. By world standards too.
I guess you have to live in one of these areas to understand just how much food there is floating around.
Jack
I didn’t know we were playing think and act like a like a republican
and at this point I have no idea what you are even talking about
social welfare programs in America are not working because republicans have consistently undermined them
there are more hungry and homeless then ever
and even the private sources are having trouble keeping up
I wish I were as smart as you Jack and has the solution to everthing I don’t understand why you haven’t shared it with the rest of us
There maybe a food surplus but it isn’t getting to the people who need it.
If poor people are over weight it because they are getting a nutritionally poor diet because the only grocery store in their neighborhood is really a liquor store.
Based on your last post and ignorance so proudly displayed I don’t think I can engage with you
angellight, always nice to see you in the hood. We get a bit crabby about our prez around here, helps to get your point of view.
BTW all, I’ll set up a fresh thread tomorrow night for live debate comment (no fancy new unworkable toys this time, just our regular comment forum).
That I believe. Poverty is a liberal talking point for you.
But some of us poverty has been an up close and personal friend in our life. We understand what it takes to survive. That is why I find the” can you live on XX.xx dollars a day” to be amusing. Because I saw my mother not only survive but save money.
Good food is available cheap
Aldi’s right now, a head of cabbage $1.30, Cauliflower $1.70, Celery $.89, 2lb carrots $.99. Cans of tomatos, 50 cents each. bone in butt portion ham water added= $1.50/lb, spiralsliceed cooked in own juices= $1.79 Beans 50 cents a lb , rice about the same.
The main problem with all that is you have to know how to cook. So the problem isn’t food, the problem is knowledge.
So instead of a head of cabbage for a buck they buy a cheap pizza or a bag of potato chips. They waste money and they get fat.
Your solution is to give them more money so they can get fatter when what they really need is a cure for their ignorance.
Jack
Jack has assumed many facts not in evidence about my positions on anything or what I solutions I think might work
I merely disputed his claim that large numbers people are not hungry or homeless
I guess all the poor fat people should waddle over to where Jack lives because food there costs about about two/ thirds or less of what it costs here and everywhere else in the US
Or maybe someone should get out of Whole Foods and go to where poor people shop and see what the real prices are.
For those are the prices I looked at today. Looking at the receipt I did miss the tomatoes they were 60 cents a can not 50. they have come up almost 20 cents in the last couple of years.
Jack
I forgot the best deal today Avocados 29 cents each. They were small but just right for guac. for 2 people.
Apples 3 lb for 2 dollars
Aldis is the poor mans friend
Jack, I agree we in America really do enjoy cheap food prices. And you can save a lot by making food from scratch…being creative. Before I was really wiped-out financially, my girlfriend and I had a contest with what we would call ‘pantry food.’ We weren’t allowed to buy any more food from the grocers, but had to ‘make do’ with what was in the pantry…those old boxes of mixes, jelly from Christmas gifts…it was like the show Chopped on the food network. But, then the money for food really dried-up and I got sick. I wasn’t eating correctly. And I am lucky, I did speak-up and apply. But, I see so many elderly who rely on food banks and half of the canned goods are outdated or on recall. It isn’t really as easy as it sounds for the elderly. Gosh, most cannot read the date stamps on the cans! And the fresh food is usually cakes, cupcakes, etc. White rice — a bad food especially for diabetics! Old onions with mold spots. White bread. Not the healthiest food.
In countries like Canada and Australia where they have health care for all, I found the food to be much more expensive than in the US. I see some sort interplay between the health of a country and feeding its citizens. I am sure there is a solution to our food obtainment and preparation and the ability to give our citizen’s health care, too. I sure wish it could be worked out.
The US subsidizes our food system that’s why it is a lot cheaper.. the subsidies unfortunately are not fairly distributed and you see the results in higher prices for organic or products from smaller farms…
If people had to pay the real cost of food especially meat, pretty much everyone would be a vegan.
Go Giants ..at least one more day of baseball for SF Giants fans
Being a vegan is not cheap, either. More of ‘Mr. Big’ when it come to food. Big food corporations…plantations worldwide. Mega production…hen houses the size of a football field.
I heard yesterday, United Health bought a healthcare corp in Brazil…they are expanding globally. Global health care…but can they really help me locally?
I guess it still comes down to feeding and providing health care to the citizens. The US of AA is behind most rich countries in providing both to its citizens.
BW
That’s because food, housing, medical care and education are to be handed out by the noblesse oblige
Go Giants, but not in the ‘Mr Big’ sort of way!
Craig, I am glad the gadgets are gone…no tinkering for the VP debate. It might be the what happened to the last debate…without his teleprompter and his TMixers, Obama was lost and did lose. I have to admit, I was bummed when I wasn’t able to connect until later that night.
I may not be religious, but I sure am superstitious!
I may not be religious, but I sure am superstitious!
BW, line of the day.
Just got back from a !!chilly!! soccer game. Last of the regular season. LP did good -- hat trick, baby.
I cain’t hep it….That “we aaaaall bundle” couple reminds me of mitt and ann.
Ah, a Hat Trick…3′xs the luck to you next year, LP.
Since it is time for our friends from “down under” to sign on, they will recognize the trick from Cricket.

US News: Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich believes the deployment of American troops in Jordan — which was announced Wednesday — brings the United States “immeasurably” closer to being dragged into the civil war in Syria.
“I can see in a moment how it happens: we’re a few dozen miles from the Syrian border and all of a sudden we are within the reach of physical danger. All it takes is a single incident,” Kucinich said in a phone interview with U.S. News.
Mittens is so excited…war!!!!!!

I was sure the next day, he would speak about the men who build the Hoover Dam. Not a word. In a world without regulations , we killed 136 Americans building the Hoover Dam . Without the ‘boondoggle’ of the Hoover Dam, L.A. would have never had the power to build all those airplanes in World War II. The deaths on the dam are lean, the 6 Companies made sure of that.
How many guys have died rebuilding Ground Zero ?
Both of these bits of giant engineering, occurring in dark economic times.
I wonder when we repeal the “Pure Food, and Drug Act”.
Why Aren’t Politicians Listening to Joe Romm About Climate Change?
OCT 10 2012, 10:42 AM ET
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/10/why-arent-politicians-listening-to-joe-romm-about-climate-change/263432/
The Hoover Dam, like the Union Pacific, was built when the Federal Government spent large amounts of cash with private companies. The death of workers was very low on the list of problems. Only regulations, have cut that death rate. When the Mocando well blew up , regulations made sure there were life boats on the rig.
That’s the difference between us and the Romans. We care about how many guys die building all this wonderful stuff that makes our lives a breeze.
Without regulations the rebuilding of ground zero would be finished. 100 people would be dead, and there’s no fire suppression in the building. Because fighting fires, is part of a smaller government.
I find it humorous that people subscribe to Hawking’s religious superstition with no evidence. Hell, krauthammer is also a dude who spouts opinions as if they were revelation.
Hawking hurts his credibility as a scientist when he bullshifts about cosmogony.
Solar,
I owe you a couple lunches? Didn’t I give you a bottle of reagan catsup? Each teaspoon is a veg. There’s an entire garden in a bottle. Ask the pong.
Anywhat, Hercules andthe Greek tales are johnny-come-lately. The Phoenicians taught ‘em all those tall tales and how to read besides. Hercules’ name back in those days was Melkart, another name for Baal.
Resurrection and babies floating in baskets, etc go back to ancient Mesopotamia, before Phoenecians even learned how to build rafts. The world’s first best-selling novel The Tale of Gilgamesh has that stuff plus the great flood and the Ark. If you want to see the earliest known titans, and Gods rebelling against their elders, you’ll find that in Enuma Elish, the world’s first religious story book.
Have another bottle of catsup on me. Made with vinegar. There’s a vineyard in every bottle.
Good night.
