“According to Pew, the spiritually engaged but religiously unaffiliated do think that “churches and other religious institutions benefit society by strengthening community bonds and aiding the poor.” But “overwhelmingly,” it adds, “they think that religious organizations are too concerned with money and power, too focused on rules and too involved in politics.”

“…suggesting that my knuckles drag because I believe in God is as intolerant as asserting that someone is soulless because they don’t..”

“…acknowledge faith as a positive human urge but are increasingly, and not too surprisingly, turned off by the often archaic institutions that claim to represent faith.”

Of course I used to do whitewater kayaking, raced dirt bikes and still have a motorcycle, so I guess it’s a matter of degree… like every fricking other thing.

One last post for now, then to work.

    RIP Arlen Specter.

  7. sturgeone says:

what i noticed with morning moe and pete townsend was that moe felt he had to treat pete with great respect and wound up with a good interview…he could probably learn something from that about how to treat everyone else who comes on there and works there.

Oh Craig, Your last line… You are so on the hook, in the boat and in the cooler for Barack and the Obama Nation.
    Grade as a journalist -- F Minus
Grade as a pundit in support of Obama Nation -- A+

Please the spin on Ryan and the crap questions from the local reporter Please everyone go back and watch the entire tape.

Specifics! You want Specifics -- Look at Gas Prices, Look at the Real Unemployment numbers, Look at the slowing of already slow growth. This is the Obama Nation Specifics. One and done.

Romney is proposing a novel approach -- Well only novel since the narcissistic President Obama -- To Work together. Not Stuff a legislation down the throat such as Obama care when all was controlled by the Democrats.

    Round II tomorrow.
Does the October slide turn into the crash?

We cannot continue to go FORWARD over the fiscal cliff as Obama would take this country.

    the Ping..

PS -- Hope all is well with the family

  11. Ping Pong says:

What do the Clinton’s get besides being thrown under the bus?
Why is the Campaign manager out on the Sunday talk shows answering the questions for the White House? What a disgrace!!!
4 Americans are dead and this is the response from the White House?

    What do the Clinton’s get?

  12. jace says:

Oh Ping that is such a crock. Ryan was and remains a joke.
Should Romney win this election it will be because of what he does. Ryan has provided nothing and the debate simply confirmed what many already knew. He may have a plan, but he has no earthly idea how to carry it out because the arithmetic just does not work.
Mitt will find that out as well, when he has to ask congress to raise the debt ceiling, while simultaneously giving everybody a 20 percent tax cut.

  13. RebelliousRenee says:

Ping… I know this has been said before… but I’m going to say it again. When I see Republicans become as outraged over the deaths in Iraq…. which was a war of choice… then I’ll believe your outrage over 4 deaths in Libya. Until then… you’re all just blowing smoke out of your collective asses.

  14. pogo says:

Ping, perhaps it escaped you that this is an election year? Libya is one subject that was addressed on the Sunday shows. Imagine, campaign managers on talk shows during an election year. Perhaps you midssed that Clinton gave a speech on the subject of the Libyan attack Friday.

  15. pogo says:

Renee, you left out the number 4,000 in the second line of your comment.

  16. First of all good morning to all TM’ers.

This is what I have so far learned about the unknown person that I have been seeing mail in my mailbox and phone calls I have been receiving using my many, many years phone number.

What I didn’t reveal yesterday about this person was the fact that a President Obama campaign worker rang my doorbell yesterday.

This worker also ask about this unknown person whom I have been seeing mail and phone calls about. I informed her that no one by that name lives here and that they should remove that name from their GOTV list.

This morning I called the campaign office to report this and to let them know that I believed that this person listed may be involved knowingly or unknowingly in something illegal.

I ask him if he could tell me where and how they got this unknown person, to me unknown,on their list. He informed me that their names came from the Voters Registration List of the State and Local Election Offices.

He ask me to send him an email in regards to this issue and to mention the same items in it that I informed him of and he would turn it over to their legal team to investigate it.

I also called my Supervisor Of Elections to confirm that I was still registered to vote, which they confirmed I was.

I then informed them about this unknown person listed as living at my address and gave them the persons name to check their registration roles and see if this person was listed at my address.

The party to whom I spoke with confirmed that this person was listed at my address. I informed the election office personal that I spoke with that this was a fraudulent registration and may be one that was turned in by the Republican Party since it has come out that they were perpetrating Voter Registration Fraud in another Florida County and were currently under investigation for this Felony Crime.

I believe that they will remove this name from the voting rolls since I confirmed that no such person resided at my address. I do not want anyone voting illegally from my address using fake documents connected to my address.

I will be sending this information to the campaign headquarters office sometime later today so they can further investigate this and to possibly see if there is a larger scale voter registration fraud going on in my county.

So later gang as I have other things to attend to and …

    Have a great day.

PS: Sorry Craig for hogging bandwidth.

  17. RebelliousRenee says:

I’ve enjoyed chat rooms and I’ve enjoyed live blogging. But I find it very hard to actually watch a debate… listen to the responses, watch the body language… and read all the comments and think of my own replies.

I know all this new fangled technology is fun and serves a good purpose. But I honestly think you can’t pay attention to chat, live blogging, and watch something on tv, and properly digest it all at once.

I know I’m probably in the minority opinion here. But that’s ok… just wanted to get it off my chest.

  18. jace says:

    RR,

I am kind of with you on that. The chat is fun, bus I don’t multitask all that well. If I stop to chat I might miss an important point.
Assuming of course that there will be any. Wink

  19. purple-in-tampa says:

The Chris Hayes’ Saturday morning “UP” video shows Hillary Clinton linking Cairo and Benghazi, starting at 1:53, with the inflammatory video trailer. This appears to be a huge failure of General David Petraeus as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). When current Defense Secretary Leon Panetta was head of the CIA we got Osama bin Laden. With General Petraeus as head of the CIA there was no warning about an al-Qaeda attack on the State Department compound in Benghazi. There was a complete intelligence failure about Benghazi that needs to be corrected. I hate to agree with the Republicans but this intelligence failure is a just another example of Obama’s leadership failures.

From the remarks of Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, in the Treaty Room on September 12, 2012:

“There is no higher priority than protecting our men and women wherever they serve. We are working to determine the precise motivations and methods of those who carried out this assault. Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior, along with the protest that took place at our Embassy in Cairo yesterday, as a response to inflammatory material posted on the internet. America’s commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear – there is no justification for this, none. Violence like this is no way to honor religion or faith. And as long as there are those who would take innocent life in the name of God, the world will never know a true and lasting peace.”

  20. RR, Jace — that’s why I always like the chat after the debate, better than watching pundits

You can tell who is on the gooper blast fax list

all they can say is 4 dead in Benghazi

“House Republicans cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012.”

“(Negotiations with the Democrat-controlled Senate restored about $88 million of the administration’s request.) Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.”

  29. Craig…

I think I have the hang of it,however I’m still not sure about using it for youtube videos.

And your welcome. Have a great day.

  30. pogo says:

Well, E.J. Dionne has hit Rmoney’s inability to hold a position on anything (well, aside from protecting those who least need protection) on the head.

  31. Well its time to try to get a fast nap in. Later all.

    Have a great day.

If you get a chance see the interview with Arlen Specter about his stand-up career --he has a pretty funny Strom Thurmond joke

  34. jace says:

Perhaps Issa ought to call Secretary Clinton for the hearing. I’m sure that she would be able to remind him of the republican spending cuts in state department security.
Don’t agree with Milbank but on this one he is spot on. Obama needs to rub some noses in this one. Tuesday night would be a good time to start.

  35. pogo, i see you’re link button savvy — makes comments so much more readable to me, and by highlighting the pertinent point as you did it emphasizes why you’re sharing the link.

  36. who coined “Rmoney” btw? i’m guessin KGC. it’s brilliant!

  37. RebelliousRenee says:

    Craig… I think it might have been BlondeW who coined Rmoney… but whoever… I agree… it’s brilliant.

pogo… thanks for the E.J. Dionne article… I really like his writings.

And here’s my choice for today’s CSM cartoon

  38. Ping Pong — sure I was one-sided in that interview, but sometimes one side is just plain wrong

  39. pogo says:

Yep, poobah. Once it (link function) was ‘splained to me I was hooked. Can’t recall who came up w/ Rmoney. It had been around a bit when i saw and adopted it. You’re right. Its brilliant.

  40. did a little upgrade that’s nice. now, when you click the date stamp on someone’s comment to get its url the whole page doesn’t reload (or at least it’s not supposed to). makes it quicker to copy and paste (which is always nice when referring to an earlier comment, so others don’t have to go searching for it if way up thread — and even better when you use the link button, like i did in msg to Ping Pong just above)

  41. also, when you click the pasted link to someone’s comment on the same page, the whole page doesn’t reload. much quicker and less strain on server

  42. patd says:

This appears to be a huge failure of General David Petraeus as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

purp, why then are they blaming hillary? or even the prez (except for ultimate responsibility) for relying on faulty intelligence instead of petraeus? same whiners were backing the bad yellow brick and wmd junk info that eventually killed over 4000 in iraq and now they’re outraged over 4 but never said a word about shrub and company.

  43. Blonde Wino says:

I believe Xrep was the first to use “Rmoney.” I saw it on one of his posts and thought it might be a typo or dyslexia — I even posted about it, but ever since I saw it, I have adopted it. I am surprised it is not used more online.

  44. jace says:

Ok guys explain this link thingy to me one more time.

  45. patd says:

blue, thanks for the chi trib link. here’s more from that on where the buck stopped with regard to embassy security:

Ryan, Issa and other House Republicans voted for an amendment in 2009 to cut $1.2 billion from State operations, including funds for 300 more diplomatic security positions. Under Ryan’s budget, nondefense discretionary spending, which includes State Department funding, would be slashed nearly 20 percent in 2014, which would translate to more than $400 million in additional cuts to embassy security.

there surely must be transcripts of these budget hearings which would pin point the real culprits.

  46. jace says:

Petreaus was the republican go to guy for years. They can’t blame him, thus Hillary becomes a target of opportunity.

  47. jace says:

Hillary may run in 2016. Republicans have to do something to tarnish her as SOS because time is running out.She won’t be there much longer.

  48. Jamie says:

The one thing neither party wants to confront is that the average person needs to earn at least $20,000 a year to survive with any degree of comfort. Most retirees on SS receive about $12,000 a year but they get Medicare and access to other programs such as Section 8 (place to live) and food programs.

In basically unskilled labor, the US has moved from manufacturing to service and information. This means that we either need greater income or greater education or new industries that require labor.

  49. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Blonde Wino is the source of Rmoney and it is indeed brilliant and it’s not her first rodeo

edited to say BW says it is X-R ..he of such wonderful names as Potholesaplenty….

    Jamie,

Not to worry, who needs a minimum income when you are going to get a 20 percent tax cut? Wink

  51. Jason Fuente says:

Craig -- You accidentally calling Ryan “ramen” cracked me up. It was quite appropriate for what you were saying that he was boring and without personality. I kept thinking this guy is RAMEN NOODLES without the flavor packet!

Blue -- Embassies are for spying. Once and a while they are for lending aid to Americans abroad.

  52. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Undecided voters at this time are not helpful to Obama because they already rejected him

  53. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

I think Obamarama should have a bunch of links on their web site that show all the different positions Rmoney has taken. Obama should introduce himself and then say
    to Rmoney…which Rmoney are you?

Then to the audience -- we have a web site with links to the positions tha Rmoney has taken over time. Not in my words or but in his own words. So when you hear Rmoney talk so eloquently about what he would do — check out how he had felt on these same issues before

  54. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

John Sununu just said all deductions are on the table

  55. Jason Fuente says:

That is an interesting idea, KGC. But Obama will not do it. He is going to continue to show that he is no different from Romney on a lot of positions. He has not figured out how to learn from his mistakes.

  56. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Boy Jason I hope that is not true

To me there is a question of what was the lesson of the first debate. I think the lesson is that people want conflict and for the debaters to passionately want their side to prevail (facts are apparently only secondary.)

I don’t think Obamarama should spend his time explaining why Rmoney is wrong — he should give his position and then just say Rmoney has taken many positions on important issues of the day and for the most part they are all bad for the country
He thinks emergency room care is a good idea because I rather doubt he has ever sought primary care in an emergency room or knows anyone who has especially a busy urban hospital

  57. Jason Fuente says:

I hope that I am wrong as well. But from what I have seen from Obama for several years now is that it will not happen.

  58. Jason Fuente says:

Issue That Will Not Be Covered Tomorrow.
    - Murdoch’s will not be covered nor will talk of an investigation of his illegal activities.

This will probably be a Romney Attack
    - I can just hear it now “How can we leave the future of Syria in the hands of Iran?”

  59. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Crowley said she hopes they cover new areas…..

  60. Jason Fuente says:

But when has Romney/Ryan stuck to the questions asked of them?

  61. As much as I like writing $Rmoney I think from now on I will call him by his real name and Title…Bishop Romney.

    Have a great evening.

  62. Katherine Graham Cracker says:

Hillary Clinton just said “the bus stops here.”

Chatting here with CNN’s Brooke Baldwin

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin is one of the most empty-headed women yet mounted on cable TV.

  70. coloradobob says:

Don’t get me wrong girls, the pinheads on the male side choke the very air from your TV.

  71. coloradobob says:

At least we’d all like to have sex with CNN’s Brooke Baldwin.

    That’s what Brooke is selling.

And dear sweet Brooke Baldwin, knows it.

  72. Well I sent my email to the person I spoke with about the unknown person that was registered at my address and below is a copy of that email.

I am leaving out the persons name whom I sent my email too as well as the name of the unknown person I spoke about.

Also at the end of my email being the paranoid person that I am I also brought up the elephant in the room that no one is talking about. So without further ado here it is.
    ——————————————————

    Dear Mr. *******,

I’m writing you this email in regards to our phone conversation this morning.

As I stated in our conversation this morning one of your campaign volunteers stop by my residence yesterday . The lady was polite and very professional, however one of her questions raised concerns with me that someone may have been involved in an illegal activity.

Your volunteer ask to speak to another person that was listed as residing at my residence by the name of *** * *******. I informed her that no such individual resided at my address.

This morning I called your number listed for your campaign office to report this and to let you know that I believed that this person listed may be involved knowingly or unknowingly in something illegal.

I ask you if you could tell me where and how they got this unknown person, to me unknown,on their list. You informed me that their names came from the Voters Registration List of the State and Local Election Offices. You ask me to send to you an email in regards to this issue and to mention the same items in it that I informed you of and that you would turn it over to the campaign legal team so that this matter could be investigated and looked into.

I called my Supervisor Of Elections to confirm that I was still registered to vote, which they confirmed I was.

I then informed them about this unknown person listed as living at my address and gave them the persons name to check their registration roles and see if this person was indeed registered and listed as residing at my address.

The party to whom I spoke with confirmed that this person was listed and registered at my address.

I do not want anyone voting illegally from my address using fake documents.

As much as it pains me to say this I firmly believe that the Republican National Party and the Florida Republican Party are attempting to steal the Florida Vote for Bishop Romney using Voter Registration Fraud. It has also been revealed that the same person\s are again involved in ten more states where they may also be doing Voter Registration. This not only needs to be investigated at the local level, but also on a national level and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law.

On another issue I wish to bring up is the elephant in the room that no one is talking about.

During the VP debate between VP Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan the last question ask had to do about their religion and abortion. Both VP Biden and Congressman Ryan gave their views about their religion and how they viewed it in regards to the abortion issue and their Catholic Religion.

As noted Congressman Ryan very clearly stated that he believed that Roe v Wade should be overturned and that elected Judges should not be the ones to decide such an important issue to many people. He suggested that the States and Elected Officials should be the ones deciding if Woman have the right to make this important decision about their lives and bodies.

VP Biden stated that he believed and accepted his Church’s Religious Doctrine but the State should not be involved in mandating the personal lives of the American people who were not of the same religious faith as Congressman Ryan and himself.

When you look at the Republican Party Ticket compared to the Democratic Party Ticket one finds that we have on one side a Christian President and a Catholic Vice President.

On the other side, the Republican Ticket we have a Mormon Bishop and a Catholic Vice Presidential Candidate.

While there is no Religious Test to run for the Office Of President one must consider the fact that the Republican Ticket has a Presidential Candidate who is a Authoritative Officer of the Mormon Religion whose first duty is to see that the Mormon Church’s Doctrine is set forth and carried out by the Church’s Congregation and Parishioners. To not do his duty as a Bishop in the Mormon Church would in effect be a violation of his Duties as Bishop and could lead to his being excommunicated by the Mormon Church.

We know through Congressman Ryan’s own words that he would follow his Church’s Religious Doctrine and as he has done numerous times attempt to outlaw all abortion even in the case of rape, incest and the life of the mother.

While I agree that Religion should not be used to disqualify a person for the Presidency Of The United States I find it disturbing that the American People are unaware of Bishop Romney’s Religious Duties to his Church and the implications it could have where a State Religion could be imposed upon all Americans.

We would not nominate or elect a Roman Catholic Bishop for the very same reasons since he would follow his Church’s Doctrine and Edicts handed down to him from the Vatican and Roman Catholic Church.

In closing let me thank you for your time and concern with what appears to be a case of Voter Registration Fraud being committed using my address to potentially steal the Florida Vote for Bishop Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan.

Have a great day and know that I will show up and vote for my President Barak Obama and VP Joe Biden.

    Sincerely yours,
    ——————————————————-

Now if only the Democratic Party or an Independent group would put out something bringing this elephant in the room before the American People I believe that they would not put the Republican Ticket in the White House and give the House and Senate back to Democratic majorities so we can continue to move America Forward.

    Have a great evening.

Secretary of State Clinton takes responsibility for deadly attack in Libya
WASHINGTON — As criticism mounted on the Obama administration, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton acted Monday to shield the president from blame for the deadly September attack on a U.S. mission in Libya, saying that any fault lies with her as America’s top diplomat.

“I take responsibility,” Clinton told a CNN interviewer during a trip to Peru.

What was Champ saying earlier about minds being blown? Well, Craig definitely completed it with that crack. I wish I could give that line 10 thumbs up. ha ha.

For all it’s heat cable TV doesn’t generate much light.

If you are female you had better be bright and better than your male counterparts. I’m not sure that prowess on the casting couch counts for much.

Brooke Baldwin appears to be plenty bright, as do Mellisa Harris Perry and Maddow. Given time she will make her mark.

    Hi CT !

Our former ripuplican Mayor and Senator norm coleman used to stop by the Dorothy Day Center to pose for pictures until one time the Center Manager told him to leave as soon as he got in the door. coleman tried to push past and the Manager called security. The story hit the tv stations that weren’t blatantly republican. The coleman flack, a muscle-building racist swine named erich mische, griped that norm just wanted to show his concern for “the homeless.”

The Manager told the newshawks that coleman had a long record of oppressing poor people and shouldn’t be allowed near vulnerable adults.
