What I want to see addressed tonight:

How our economy is negatively impacted by wasting money on fighting in the ME -

Lack of a comprehensive energy policy/green tech, which makes us more dependent on foreign energy sources -

Whether or not this Iran thing that Mittens & Bibi are trying to whip up is mainly about access to their tasty oil --

    Outsourcing jobs -

    Unfair trade -

    Cybersecurity -

    Border security -

These are all “women’s issues,” so no need for any right-wingnuttery.

ps -- Will also be listening for a hateful bird reference from Willard.

“…Republicans in Congress for “banding together” and blocking legislation that would allow homeowners to refinance…”

A GOoPer-heavy Congress that wants to harm Americans; they sound every bit like a foreign entity.

    Good Morning Blue, all
    From previous thread

    Sorry for the super
long boring post. The articles just annoyed me and I needed to vent.

    Hi Bethy,
No need to ever apologize, a vent is good and as i have told you before your a pleasure to read.
The articles and many like that have annoyed me as well. While i realize the kill list and the detaining of even American’s without due process is happening, it amazes me a Dem president is doing this. Obama’s Signing Statement on NDAA: I have the power to detain Americans… but I won’t

Dr. Dean had the right idea, but he made too much sense for democrats.

In the meantime, the RNC thrives and the DNC trembles.

    Jace,
You said a mouthful here and i so agree!!! Your post was excellent.

  4. blueINdallas says:

“The billboards…read “Voter Fraud is a felony”…went up primarily in low-income minority neighborhoods…”

“The sponsor was not identified on the billboards owned by Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings Inc…”

“Needless to say I’m happy they will be taken down but I want to know who was behind this in the first place.”

“In response to the outcry, Clear Channel Outdoor donated 10 billboards around the Cleveland area that read “Voting Is a Right. Not a Crime!”

Clear Channel Frown And why the replacements “around the Cleveland area,” rather than as exact replacements of the voter suppression billboards???

Between this & the article I posted last week on the Romney ties to Hart Intercivic voting machines…

  5. blueINdallas says:

Good a.m. to you, too, Tony.

  6. jace says:

    XR,

I know that my opinion on the outcome of the election was the minority view. Unseating an incumbent president is a pretty heavy lift most times.

Republicans might well have had the chance to do it, until they fell in love with every Tom, Dick, and Harry wingnut who crawled out of the woodwork, and made a mockery of their nominating process in the bargain.

Certainly the Obama campaign and by that I mean the president have enabled the republicans to be within striking distance. That said, the DNC has been for the most part a non player as opposed to the RNC.
I guess they organized the convention, beyond that they have been as useless as tits on a boar. Win or lose they will go into hiding until about October of the next election cycle. A stark contrast to their RNC counterparts.

Off to work now, I shall return tonight when the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. Wink

  7. Blonde Wino says:

Good morning…I cannot watch any news…I’ve read Willard is ahead in the polls on foreign policy?? I fear for the ignorant. If it is anything like Willard’s mission in France…he is going to have a lot of accidents and might kill an innocent or two. Geesh!

Jamie…thanks for the Halley’s correction…I am happy McGovern did get the celestial fireworks from the meteor shower. He was so deserving and worthy.

  8. Jamie says:

Couldn’t believe Dan Senor on Morning Joe this morning … all grins and giggles with sane statements about diplomatic negotiations with Iran. Who was that guy and what did the GOP do with the real neo con war monger?

  9. Blonde Wino says:

Jamie…you 9:52 post is WHY I loathe the republiCON way. So, phony and they will say anything, lie about anything to try to fool the public…much better at it than the dems.

  10. Blonde Wino says:

To me they are either RepbliCons or RepubliCan’ts…but, they never cooperate, they pretend to be bi-partisan and are forbidden by me to be called the RepubliCANS!

  11. Blonde Wino says:

    The accidents are beginning…

Rmoney’s Blimp Crash Lands in Florida

  12. pogo says:

Busy today, but here’s this -- for the first time in this election cycle, RCP shows Romney ahead on its EC map.

Even so, on its no tossup map, Obama is shown as winning by a nose. If this holds (and really, who knows?) I will have predicted the election months ago -- Obama by a hair.

  13. Blonde Wino says:

pogo…Gallup’s latest poll that has Rmoney up by 7 pts. has the smallest sampling size of all other former polls they have completed. It was 2700 vs. 3050. They left out the ’350′ for Obama!

It is a good thing the polls are close…get everyone out to vote. That is really what this should be about…getting citizens to vote. No suppression or intimidation. Easy access, too.

  14. pogo says:

    BW, I couldn’t agree more.

(They musta been in a hurry)

  15. Nash 2.5 says:

I can summarize the foreign policy debate tonight…

Romney: Obama is WEAK, I will be STRONG.

Obama: Diplomacy is complicated. There are no simplistic solutions.

  16. RebelliousRenee says:

my choice for today’s CSM cartoon…

KGC… now you have a dilemma… do you watch the debate or the 7th game between your beloved Giants and the Cardinals. If it was me, I’d go with the baseball game… too many balls and umps in politics… Wink

  17. blueINdallas says:

Stinks to high heaven; they’re stealing it, folks.

“…there might be a snafu with some electronic voting machines in a number of Cincinnati based precincts. There have already been complaints that broken machines were not being quickly replaced in precincts that tend to lean Democratic and now, word is coming in that there may be some software issues.”

“…the machines used in Hamilton County, Ohio—the county home of Cincinnati— are supplied by Hart Intercivic…”

“…Hart Intercivic is owned, in large part, by H.I.G. Capital…”

“…H.I.G. is the 11th largest of all the contributors to the Romney effort.”

“HIG Capital—one of the largest Solamere partners…owns a number of other firms that are closely monitoring the federal government…”

“…Solamere Capital—the investment firm run by Mitt Romney’s son, Tagg, and the home of money put into the closely held firm by Tagg’s uncle Scott, mother Anne and, of course, the dad who might just be the next President of the United States—depending upon how the vote count turns out, in our little tale, in the State of Ohio—have shared business interests with H.I.G. either directly or via Solamere Advisors…”

    http://news.yahoo.com/romney-family-investment-ties-voting-machine-company-could-003209723.html

  18. blueINdallas says:

nash -- “There are no simplistic solutions.”

No, but there are simpletons who will vote for the guy who says there are such solutions.

  19. Pogo, BW — yep the polling community has been noting more wild swings in Gallup polls last couple years than anyone remembers. some concern they are getting sloppy. hope they get it sorted out, i’ve always put a lot of faith in their work

  20. Blonde Wino says:

    Tonight’s entertainment --

The Romnettes beating their war drums and singing their featured hit “Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran!

and Obama will be droning on about how he got the bad guys and talk about smoking his peace pipe throughout the world.

  21. Ignoble exChamp says:

You Dems should be crowing about U.S./Iranian diplomacy, rather than focusing on Romney’s inane posturing, in my opinion. That’s a major foreign policy victory for Team Obama.

  22. Blonde Wino says:

Iggy agreed, but it never goes down on TV like that…the entertainment portion takes over.

I like the idea of peace…cheaper than war in so many ways!

  23. Still playing with 1940 census data and other archives — check out who owned Trail Mix Headquarters that year: Thomas Armat, an Academy Award winner!

  24. Ignoble exChamp says:

I like the idea of peace…cheaper than war in so many ways!

…depends on what business you’re in. To hear Romney talk, one might surmise his friends are in the defense industry.

  25. ha, now i don’t feel so bad about my own “telethon” — Wikipedia asking for money — i sent my $20

btw, for those who got multiple emails this morning, very sorry about that. my plugin for that went nuts after a so-called upgrade. now fixed

  26. Jamie says:

Well I’m sticking with Nate Silver and 538 He’s been consistent on his interpretations.

The pollsters need to figure out a way to reach cell phone and computer users willing to talk to them. With call screening and spam, a lot of people just don’t want to be bothered. The ones that do tend to be opinionated.

  27. Faire says:

Now that I’ve cast my votes, I start getting calls asking for said votes.

I just roll my eyes & hang up.

No Politics for the Holidays is now up on FB. Feel free to join. Right now we’re posting Halloween stuff.

  28. RebelliousRenee says:

Not only am I not answering the phone… but most of the people I’ve talked to in this one horse town have told me that they are now allowing their answering machine to handle all calls. I imagine this is playing out all over this state.

As the first in the nation primary,we’ve always gotten calls during the presidential primaries… but this is the worst I’ve ever seen it. My analysis…. it really sucks to be in a swing state.

  29. Jamie says:

Comcast has actually made it easy for me. Since a phone is included in the bundle, that is the number I give out. The ringer is off and all I have to do is check the voice mail on the computer and delete anything of no interest. Only people I trust have the cell phone. It’s very quiet around here. Smile

  30. Jamie says:

A little grouchy mood music: Rufus Wainwright singing Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows”

  31. Well I hate too say this, however I don’t believe that tonight’s debate really makes any difference. I think that this election has already been stolen by the RNC and Republican Party.

With all the Voter Suppression Laws being enacted in several Republican held States which have enacted their Voter ID Laws and which some are key battle ground states many legitimate voters will be dis-enfranchised.

Add to the mix the Republican Voter Registration Fraud by the Republican National and State Parties I believe that many legitimate voters may have had their voter information changed and will prevent them from voting since they will not have the corresponding identification that will allow them to vote.

Of course we must not forget the Voter Registration Fraud which has already been exposed where the RNC told the State Parties to hire a firm that was known for Voter Registration irregularities. How many citizens had their Registration Forms shredded or thrown in dumpsters? How many citizens will show up at the polls only to find that they are not registered as they thought they were. And after being caught open up in five more states under another name to do the same thing.

Next we add in the Absentee Ballot and how many of those will end up being fraudulent is an unknown equation. To truly know if the Absentee Ballots are legitimate every one of them would have to be checked and verified. We already know that that will never happen.

Lastly we have Bishop Romney’s son Blackheart(Taggart Romney and his mother Ann) owning voting machines that will be used in Hamilton County, which is a heavily Democratic County in Ohio, the votes will be flipped over to Bishop Romney which will allow him to win the State.

I hope I’m wrong, but its looking more and more that I am correct. When the Republican Party State Officials refuse to investigate voter registration fraud that has been exposed you know they will do anything to steal this election.

    Have a great evening.

PS: The President needs to throw Senesta in Bishop Romney’s face when the issue of outsourcing to China comes up.

  32. purple-in-tampa says:

This Wall Street Journal’s article today should help make tonight’s debate most interesting. Yes the CIA will be and should be the whipping boy again. When current Defense Secretary Leon Panetta was head of the CIA we got Osama bin Laden. With General David Petraeus as head of the CIA there was either no warning or confusion or both about an al-Qaeda attack on the State Department compound in Benghazi. Intelligence officials didn’t tell Ambassador Rice about conflicting reports before she went on Sunday talk shows because they weren’t sure the information was conclusive, officials said. Obama had better get his Intelligence Agencies working together.

Paul Ryan, House Budget Committee Chairperson, needs to justify why House Republican lawmakers shaved $128 million in 2011 and $331 million in 2012 from the administration’s request for embassy security funding.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton needs to get State Department pure bean counter bureaucrats like Deputy Assistant Secretary Charlene Lamb under control to prevent actions and statements like “We had the correct number of assets in Benghazi.” Her statement was absolutely absurd when 4 people have been killed!

And what in the hell are we doing with 6,000 contractors in Baghdad! They should have moved just a few to Benghazi. What are we doing in Iraq anyway?

    Intelligence Stressed Libya Protest Scenario
In Reports to Obama, CIA Didn’t Alter Assessment of Trigger for Violence for 10 Days, Even as Witness Accounts Disputed It.
By Adam Entous & Siobhan Gorman, October 22, 2012 10:51 AM ET

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama was told in his daily intelligence briefing for more than a week after the consulate siege in Benghazi that the assault grew out of a spontaneous protest, despite conflicting reports from witnesses and other sources that began to cast doubt on the accuracy of that assessment almost from the start.

New details about the contents of the President’s Daily Brief, which haven’t been reported previously, show that the Central Intelligence Agency didn’t adjust the classified assessment until Sept. 22, fueling tensions between the administration and the agency.

The CIA has played the central role in providing the intelligence on Benghazi included in the daily brief because it had officers at the scene of the attack in Benghazi and other intelligence capabilities on the ground inside Libya.

The CIA was consistent from Sept. 13 to Sept. 21 that the attack evolved from a protest. The current intelligence assessment still notes there is conflicting evidence about whether there was a protest earlier on the day of the attack.

  33. pogo says:

Damn, AP, I hope you’re wrong, but if O wins, it will be in spite of all the ‘pugn efforts to suppress the vote in traditional Dem voting blocs. If O wins Ohio & PA (I consider FL to be a lost cause) I think that will definitely be in spite of the best efforts of the corrupt pugn voting apparatus operatives. If they were on fire, Jefferson wouldn’t walk across the street to piss on them to put the fire out (well, that is if he were alive and weren’t such a landholder elitist).

  34. This morning I knocked on granddaughter Crystal’s door; there was no response. To make a long story short, she was dead, probably of a heroin overdose. But, more accurately, due to a life of victimization caused by her mother, Alice’s, mental illness and exacerbated by her own.

Long time readers will recall that her mom hanged herself on Christmas Eve a couple of years ago.

I’m always reassured when I see the nice adverts by the fancy psychiatric facilities in the Atlantic Monthly. Very impressive.

  35. Jamie says:

    Flatus

So futile to say anything … children pay for the sins of the parents and hard for you. My condolences, but know your strength and decency. If a shoulder is needed, mine is here.

  36. Jason Fuente says:

I’m sorry to hear that, Flatus. I send my condolences to you in this time.

  37. Jamie says:

For those who can keep a couple of tabs open, you might want this window on Twitter. Between our chat here and tweets there, you should get all sides of the subject.

  38. so sorry Flatus, and after the year you’ve had. hang tough, pal

  39. Jamie says:

Just saw a Laura Ingraham tweet … the urge to scream, reach through the screen and strangle the witch …. Of course, that response has made her rich.

  40. Do it anyhow, Jamie, put it on my bill.

  41. Flatus…

My most sincere and deepest condolences to you. I will remember granddaughter Crystal in my prayers tonight.

  42. Well I’m headed over to the live stream for MSNBC and will also watch the debate on my local ABC affiliated channel.

Watching PBS NewsHour right now. Will check the blog off and on as the debate progresses just in case anyone posts a comment. Will check back after debate.

    Have a great evening.

  43. Jamie says:

    Craig,

Would like to hear your thoughts on that great big red middle of the country. I know that it is mostly a combination of old south and sparsely settled populations to the north, but a lot of that had major Progressive movements at one time. How does the Democratic party get them back and is the blue coasts mostly social liberal but still economic conservative which screws over the rest of us?

  44. Thank you Anon, and others.

  45. RebelliousRenee says:

oh Flatus… I’m so very very sorry about Crystal…
I wish you were here so I could give you a hug… so a cyber one will have to do…

    {{{{{{{{{{{{{FLATUS}}}}}}}}}}}}}

    please take care my friend….

  46. Blonde Wino says:

Flatus, my heart breaks for you. What a day you have had! I appreciate you telling us and I will join in that cyber hug.

  47. tony says:

    Flatus,
Oh man, i’m sorry. Lov you.

  48. Jamie, three words: God, Guns, Gays

  49. Jamie says:

    Craig,

Oh good, they have children and cable TV so all those old hatreds should get swiftly outnumbered.

  50. Blonde Wino says:

Stage set-up for the debate is similar to Biden and Lyin Ryan. Advantage Obama. Rmoney is going to need a seat belt…Mr. Aggression will try to get out of his chair.

  51. Ignoble exChamp says:

    There are no words, Flatus.

  52. Blonde Wino says:

Jamie and Craig…most of ‘that recent red state path’ on the political map runs along the Mississippi…they might be drinking the water.

  53. jace says:

    Oh Flatus!

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

    jace

  54. jace says:

    Flatus,

A lighted candle and a short prayer coming your way.

Would that there was more I could offer.

    Do take care.

    jace

  55. harborwoman says:

Flatus…I’m so sorry! This has been a really difficult year for you, but know that any of us on this list with you will do anything we can to help or to lighten your load. Take care, friend.

  56. Bishop Romney’s lips are moving so you know he’s lying.

  57. User says:

    Craig,
Sean from NewsLink here. I like your chat room, I read the transcripts after the last debate, great stuff! Coming to Orlando soon?

  58. What a disappointed. President Obama had the chance to put Bishop Romney away and he would not do it.

I am going to let his campaign office know about this and ask how am I suppose to still support him when he won’t even go to bat for all those 170 workers in Freeport Illinois who just lost their jobs.

Jobs that Bishop Romney owns around $8 million dollars in stock that his former company Bain Capitol just shut down and is moving over seas to China.

    Have a great evening.

  59. jace says:

The President did reasonably well tonight.

Romney agreeing almost in total with the president’s handling of foreign policy did not hurt.

Romenesia to be much more applicable tomorrow. The president has the sound cuts and quotes to back it up.

Neo-cons must be reaching for Pepcid AC tonight.

My advice to them. Try it with Scotch.

  60. jace says:

Mr. Romney, could please explain your foreign policy to all our listeners?

Yes of course, first let me say that I love teachers, especially foreign language teachers. Secondly let me say that my foreign policy involves a nuanced agreement with President Obama, and an extremely hard shake of an etch-a-sketch. I also think that we should sell Ramblers to China. That would create at least 12 million jobs in the next four years. You can count on me for that type of leadership. I will never apologize, except maybe for the Ramblers

  61. ct says:

Soooo sorry Flatus. Mental illness is such a tremendous trauma on those who live with it and their families. Unfortunately death may be the only peace that those suffering mental illness can find but that doesn’t help those who are left behind.
